We visited this quaint tea room on our walk around the area and sat in a lovely cottage garden. I had the Elderflower & Gooseberry Victoria sandwich which was really light, the lightest I have ever tasted. With this I had a pot of Earl Grey tea. This was all served on beautiful bone china with lovely cake forks &... More

There is a nice small garden with the local sparrow population demanding protection ‘money’. Rather charming to see the birds aerobatic displays. Food is very good and the service is a little slow. We were warned that it may take a while which is fine, however the tea gets cold in the wait. Perhaps supply the hot water in a... More

We said we would never go back to Badgers as we have had terrible service twice in the past. But we gave it a try again today and very glad we did! We have to sit in the garden as we have a dog and usually don't get noticed, however what a change today!! Two excellent young waitresses were superb,... More

Went for lunch with a friend, have a lovely garden but we sat inside. A good choice for lunch and cakes. We ordered just after another couple who had sat down just before us. And despite getting our drinks first, the other couple had got their meals, drinks and eaten it all and gone before our sandwiches came out. Hence... More

After a walk to the beach, we were in need of coffee and cake. Where better than The Old Village Bakery - or Badgers Tea Rooms? We were slightly disappointed when we entered as the tables were all taken......but then we noticed the garden courtyard - a lovely sheltered area with a few tables and sculptures. We settled in and... More

Heavenly afternoon tea. Traditional cream tea met all expectations but the gooseberry and elderflower and fresh cream sponge was the lightest, best sponge I've ever tasted. Huge slice and ever mouthful was sheer delight!

This little tea room sits in the heart of Alfriston ,itself a very beautiful quaint village. The tea room is cosy, oldy worldly and when you step in the door you step back in time.being such a lovely day we chose to sit in the garden very tranquil with only birds singing.the menu was varied but we chose the traditional afternoon... Sat in the garden with family for afternoon tea as we had the dogs with us after a long walk to Alfriston. Ordered tea and scones etc however the tea arrived some 10 minutes before the scones and so ended up having to order extra tea...only a minor point but you need tea with your scones. Asked for the bill... More

We stopped by Badgers @ The Old Village Bakery on Good Friday. What a treat. Our order was for tea, coffee and cake. There was 'Guest Cake' on the menu which we tried; there were two possibilities for Easter Weekend - Simnel Cake and Chocolate Cake topped with pomegranate. We opted for Simnel cake. I chose the signature cake Gooseberry... More

Description
Welcome to our historic tea house! Alfriston was granted its market charter in 1406, and the house at Badgers dates from 1510 – over 500 years old! We know it was the village bakery for 200 years until 1933, and proprietor Michael Luttig and manager Lynn Attfield continue the tradition of exceptional baking on the premises. “Dissenters” from St Andrews Church met here in the late 18th Century until they built their own independent church (now the United Reformed Church) in 1801. We even have a Standing Stone in the pavement outside the front door…
