We came on a wriggle deal for vegan pies, mash, chips, peas and gravy. we also got chutney. Brilliant food and would highly recommend

After doing a few of the pubs in the Hanover district of Brighton, due to its inclusion in the GBG we decided to detour to take in the Admiral on our way back to the train station.
Sadly this one didn’t do it for me, but I do wonder if we visited it at the right time. Perhaps on a summers evening when there are lots of locals utilising the decent garden area outback or when there are lots of students in for one of the many live music nights, this place has a different feel about it.
But with only a couple in it lacked as much in atmosphere as it lacked in ale choice from the six handpumps that line the main bar.
I did like the traditional interior and any pub that focusses on music and has a display of vinyl on the walls gets a plus mark from me, but this was circumvented by the poor ale showing on the available pumps. Only a Hammerpot Double Helix and Titanic Plum Porter were on two of the six handpumps with the rest unused. Fortunately the Plum Porter is one of my favourite beers, but I have to say I’ve had better pints of this superb brew.
With a few in and a better choice of beer this could be a cracking pub. Unfortunately it wasn’t for our visit.

We decided to go with our kids to try the carribbean/Jamaican food on Friday night.
We went for jerk mix at £15 thought it was rather steep but hoped for at least a decent portion size.
When it came I haven't been so disappointed with a meal for sometime. We must point out that we usually make the journey to London to get our Caribbean food kicks where the prices are much lower and the portions are Caribbean in nature too.
It came the rice had been tipped out of a take away style container and clearly been microwaved, it was a tiny portion too, served with a tiny few pieces of chicken and probably 1-2 oz of pork if there was 3 oz of meat I would be surprised.
We left feeling hungry and frankly feeling ripped off. The upside the meat was tasty as were the dumplings it's just the portion size verse price meant we would never return, as for the rice please cook it fresh and at least try and present it with a bit of flare.
Two stars awarded because portions was tiny prices where high, two lots of music playing reggae and pop overlapping each other really annoying an overall poor performance and toilets really filthy too.

Great Sunday roast fresh home cooked would recommend worth the money. Not well advertised so very quiet, suggest more advertising as was delish

My friends and I went here for a few drinks the other night. Another friend had been told that the food was really good, so we thought we would pop in to check the place out. Its really nice inside and they have an awesome new outdoor area. Despite not planning to eat the smell of the food was too much and we ordered after staying longer than planned. We weren't disappointed, it was all absolutely delicious! We all tried different things and everyone really enjoyed their meals.
So glad a great place to eat has appeared locally and we will definitely go back to eat there regularly. Highly recommend!
