As someone who really misses the pub being open, the food menus on Friday and Sunday help to alleviate some of that disappointment, but I can’t wait for a pint of Harvey’s to go with the great food.
We had a choice of the meal being delivered, or picking it up at a pre-arranged time. Another joy of having a really good ‘local’, is that I can just walk round the corner to collect it from what feels like a very safe environment.
Friday night is Fish and Chip night and the chef serves some of the best fish and chips we’ve ever had.
Today, there was a variation on their Sunday Roasts theme, with a very well-priced Valentine’s Day menu. It was a complete success, roasts with all the trimmings and a delicious brownie to share.
A great idea, brilliantly executed. Many thanks to all at The Cleveland.

Went for a weekday lunch as part of a few days family holiday. They were happy to accommodate our beloved dog (who really enjoyed his sausages) and social distancing rules were followed. Staff were very friendly and I would describe the food as tasty pub grub, with a couple of specials, at reasonable value for money.

Thank you Cleveland Arms! We booked the conservatory section for our daughter’s 2nd birthday and pre- ordered the buffet for 20 adults. Their hospitality and food quality was sensational. Sarah and her team were attentive, friendly and very accommodating despite it being the middle of a busy Saturday. We love this local pub and so pleased to have it on our doorstep. Thank you. I visited for a friends birthday for takeaway drinks & picnic boxes on Blakers Park. I was made to feel I was in the way & stopped from going to the toilets even though I watched other people, including one of my friends go without being questioned. We were abruptly told these were the last takeaways being served as they were too busy.
I’d like to say please don’t take your frustrations out on your customers and make it clear what you are and aren’t providing. I was very confused by the situation and didn’t feel I was doing anything no one else was doing. The scones in the box were also very dry & not edible.

Hi Julie, so sorry to hear your review. We always try to accommodate everyone and I know you purchased a few takeaway drinks and a picnic box from us last Saturday. As it got later in the afternoon we were extremely busy both for takeaways and our pub tables. In the current climate and to ensure we meet current guidelines and social distancing requirements we stopped offering take away drinks for a couple of hours to reduce the people in our premises and also ensure we maintained social distancing. Our priority is to keep our customers and staff safe. Its the same for our toilets as we can only allow one person at a time to maintain social distancing sometimes we may have to stop other users than our diners from using the toilets to prevent a queue and a build up of people. We always let people know the park toilets are open. Its the first time I have heard about the scone quality and I'll arrange a refund.

The Cleveland is currently open for just a few hours from Friday to Sunday, for takeaway meals and drinks. I have always enjoyed the ales and snacks at the Cleveland But last weekend on Saturday. I had one of their usually excellent starter sausage rolls which on this occasion was very oily and sickly, Unfortunately, after a few pints of Harvey's best bitter I had to leave suddenly pedaling home ASAP due to the laxative effect and a lack of any toilet facilities.

I am so sorry to hear that. Its really important we speak to you to check what time you came and purchased the takeaway sausage roll from us. We made our sausage rolls fresh on Saturday so I am really surprised to hear this. They have been very popular and I have not heard this from anyone else. I am really pleased you have been supporting us with our takeaways - thank you but sorry to hear about last Saturday. I was working and will be able to track your purchase. Please can you call me on 502396. With regards to the toilet facilities, I am not sure where you ate your takeaway food but as you are probably aware we are not allowed to open up our toilet facilities to the public whilst only open for takeaways. This will be different from Saturday when we are able to open as a pub.

We collected our fish and chips (& a beefburger) tonight. Everything was carefully wrapped and beautifully presented. The fish was lightly battered and fantastically fresh, the decently cut chips were piping hot and delicious. The room was silent as we ate until everything was demolished. The burger was great too according to the hungry teen. Big thumbs up from this lockdown household 👍👍

Thank you for the review and so pleased we managed to make the house quiet! I am glad the hungry people were satisfied. When you buy our takeaways either during lockdown or when we are open normally, our aim is to make sure you get the same quality at home as if you were eating with us in the pub and thats why the presentation and packaging is just as important. Fish and chips and mushy peas with tartare sauce - all exquisitely cooked and perfectly presented to takeaway. Fish melted in the mouth, batter was not greasy, chunky chips (skins on) beautifully crispy, tasty peas and a fine tartare sauce. Perfect!!

Not bad but just not worth the money.
Nice decor although not all of it quite matches, the food menu was very limited which is fine but the few things on the menu need to be 100% and really they were reaching 75% for the price point.
Drinks were nice, served at correct temp and tasted fresh. Food didn’t have the correct condiments available and a burger didn’t come with a salad or any side offering, for £15:99 it was an extremely bare plate. For a small increase in kitchen expense they could provide something worth the money.
Pub is in a beautiful area but none of the windows have a view of the park which is really strange. I suspect Sunday roast is much better experience

Sorry to hear you felt our food is over priced. You opinion really matters but if it helps we source everything locally and try and make everything in house. Our values are to not buy in what other restaurants can. Sorry that didnt come across in your meal. We love our position overlooking the park and the front outside handmade benches are always the most popular this time of year. Unfortunately we love the original windows that are over 100 years old. Yes please come back and try our award winning Sunday roast.

Wow what an amazing roast they do here. I had the roast beef, nice and tender, roast potatoes were fantastic and crispy great selection of vegetables and gravy to die for. Also the Yorkshire pudding was ace!!! Also ordered some pigs in blankets and were fantastic too! Others had the chicken and lamb and from the comments they enjoyed it just as I did with mine. Service was really good and a nice and friendly atmosphere. Everything was well organised with social distancing. Can't wait to go back for a roast again!

We are long-time customers of the Cleveland Arms, and are delighted that Sarah and Jamie have upheld the tradition of running a friendly local pub, while improving the food offer enormously. During lockdown, they are offering a Sunday roast collection service, which has allowed us to enjoy their lovely roasts at home for the last two weeks. Everything about the delicious roasts works really well. We couldn't rate them more highly. They even use compostable containers!

Have had many a great meal at the Cleveland in the past but first visit back post lockdown has been disappointing. Of course every venue has its own way of interpreting covid guidelines and every individual has their own benchmark for feeling safe. I didn't feel safe in the Cleveland. I felt the pub was too busy for adequate social distancing and the table next to ours was too close. They were doing a good job of cleaning the tables and chairs after each use but the proximity and numbers of people made me uncomfortable. As well as having pre booked tables the pub was trying to accommodate walk ins and this caused problems. Some people came in without face masks and were challenged but others were not. One of the bar staff was very abrupt and rude when trying to deal with violations of the rules re sitting down, wearing masks etc. Ok, we all understand that rules have to be in place but the staff need training in how to ask people to conform without getting their backs up and perhaps not allowing walk ins would be a good idea to ease the problems of people moving around the pub and standing up when they should sit. The food we had wasn't nearly as good as the excellent food we always enjoyed before lockdown and the service was slow. Added to the snappy waitress going about brusquely telling people off it wasn't a great experience. It's a real shame.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and we always try and learn from each review. However I am gutted you feel the way you do. Jamie and I said since we reopened in July, agreed with the team safety is the most important thing so your review makes me sad. You are right, if we do have to remind our customers of the law around face masks and sometimes the rule of 6, we should do it in a nice way. If my team came across abrupt, I know when I share this review with them they will be horrified but I am sorry this happened. We will ensure when we remind people of the rules we do it in a nice way. I am sure you saw the disposable face masks we have available for any of our customers on the bar so if they do forget (which will happen), they can free of charge have one of ours. This is because we want to make sure our staff and customers feel safe. I do feel we go above the guidelines by reminding people but as you say its how we say it. Even with the NHS track and trace, the law is to have it visabale for customers to use but we go that extra mile and have a version we can take to the tables and always ask if customers have checked in. There are other things happening that wont always be obvious but a lot of our vunerable customers call us up and let us know they are so we give them a table of their choice. Since we reopened we decided (before again it became the covid guideline) to operate a table service for our customers. This means customers dont need to leave their seat and again to keep them safe. Everyone priased us for this. I can also gurantee we will not seat more customers than we currently have capacity for within the current social distance guidelines. You are right we do allow walk ins as well as bookings. We decided not to say bookings only as we wanted to be more flexible for our customers who dont always plan ahead and we appreciate we are a pub. We will not though allow walk ins to come if we dont have a table. Some of customers were sheilding so to avoid them coming in, we personally deliver to their door. Sorry to hear your meal was not as good as before. If you do come back and we hope you do and this happens again, please tell us on the day and we will do something about it. Sometimes service may not be as quick as it was when ordering at the bar before lockdown because we are operating table service but we always try and do things in a safe timely way. I am pleased you noticed our extra cleaning and we always make sure surface regualry touched by customers are sanitised frequently.

Fantastic roast dinner with plenty of delicious vegetables, dessert and bottle of wine. Excellent punctual service. This pub has shown it is at the heart of our community offering well priced delicious takeaway food. Always innovative and always responsive to the needs of locals. Well done Cleveland. We were recommended to try the Sunday lunch takeaway so went online to order lamb followed by sticky toffee pudding to collect at 3pm. We arrived just before 3pm, rang them to announce our arrival, and seconds later they brought out our lunch. Within minutes we were at home tucking into the most delicious Sunday lunch with beautiful tender lamb, tasty gravy, a good variety of roasted veg and a large Yorkshire pud. The sticky toffee pudding too was lovely. We will certainly be doing this again. Highly recommend.

We have lived round the corner for many years and this pub has improved no end. The interior improvements are lovely, it has a real cosy feel and a great atmosphere when busy. The outside area with patio heaters and rain cover are also very comfortable. The menu is brilliant at the moment. They do a delightful cheese board currently, of which the chef came out and personally talked us through. They also seem to have a great team. All the staff seem genuinely friendly and the service is reasonably quick. We used to go to another local pub, but we much prefer the Cleveland now and it is more reasonably priced with better quality food.

Hi Cheryl, thank you for your review. That's amazing. Although we took over 5 years ago, its lovely to hear people discover us and love us. Our menu changes seasonal and everything we serve is home cooked and from local suppliers. We have daily specials so there should always be something you haven't seen on the menu. We ate in here today as we were in the area this weekend and it had been recommended to us for the award winning Sunday roast.
It didn’t disappoint - the service was really friendly and helpful although a little slow as they were so busy. The food was great - across our party we had all the meat roasts and everyone had a different view on which was the best! Some thought beef, some thought lamb and some pork! The desserts were all really tasty too.
If we are in the area again then we will definitely be back - my sister even said she would drive down on a Sunday for the roast 🤣
