Absolutely delicious. As we wondered around Brighton on an evening we had no idea where we wanted to eat & totally forgot to book (due to COVID we should have done) but stumbled across this little restaurant & they were able to sit us. My husband & I both had Bavette Steak which came with Frites & sauce, the waitress recommended the tomato salad a side which wow we were glad she did it was delicious the whole meal (main + side) was absolutely stunning. We decided to share a desert of Eton mess which have to say we were disappointed by, was just a jar of what appeared to be full of cream with 1 mini meringue + 2 raspberries & 2 blackberries. This isn’t cheapest of restaurants but you get what you pay for we had 2 mains, 1 side (which was in fact a starter) 1 desert, 1 Cider, 1 Rose Spritz & a bottle of water & our bill was about £78 we didn’t mind as part from desert all of rest of food & drink was fab.

Genuine French, independently-owned friendly bistro located in the heart of North Laine on Trafalgar Street. Having been a regular customer for seven years, and living just around the corner, its reopening in early June made my day. Fantastic to be greeted by the friendly owners Ben & Greg, just like old times. They have changed the menu to reflect the new takeaway & delivery era we currently live in. We had our old favourites of Eggs Royale and Eggs Florentine with a pear juice to wash it down. What can I say? Absolutely delicious, like a French vacation for my taste buds. How I have missed the wonderful Hollandaise sauce that Greg makes to perfection. This weekend to celebrate a birthday we had a Full Mange Tout breakfast, and its veggie counterpart. Top notch as always, we were so full we did not eat again until the evening. Mange Tout has always served the best brunch in town, and we also look forward to returning in July for dinner in the evenings and that perfect hospitality with a French accent. As a bonus they are also selling specially selected organic wines, in refillable bottles. We have tried both the rose & the white so far both good value & highly recommended. Wonderful to see this extremely popular Brighton eatery back, it feels like a huge turning point in North Laine’s reopening as things start to return to normal. Merci beaucoup Ben & Greg

Myself and my partner visited mange tout today on an outing to Brighton. We walked past on our way to do some shopping and decided to come back on our way out of Brighton. Straight away we were served and seated, the service being quick, friendly, polite and helpful. We started off with a glass of beautifully fresh squeezed orange juice each and ordered our food. When we ordered our food, I also ordered a latte, which came presented well, along side a complimentary bottle of water and glasses. When our food came, we were advised by the lovely member staff to be careful of the resident seagull as we were sitting outside, we took her advice and moved to the next seat in. Shortly after she came to us at the window and asked how our meals were, we agreed that everything was lovely. My partner had les oeuf de mange tout Benedict, and he said everything tasted very fresh, very well seasoned, 2 poached eggs done perfectly with bacon and 2 very lovely chunky pieces of sourdough bread and beautifully presented. I had the pain perdu, a stunning combination of beautiful cinnamon french toast made with a gorgeous amount of sourdough bread with icecream and a lovely fruit compote, I thought everything was beautifully presented and tasted amazing, it was really lovely but so filling I couldn't finish. Overall, the whole experience was 'exquisite', in my partners words. The staff were very polite, smiley and accommodating and we will definitely be returning to mange tout again! Thank you for a lovely brunch!

We had breakfast on Sunday 16th Aug in this lovely little place. The food was very good (eggs Benedict and eggs florentine) and so were the coffees although it would have been good to have more dairy alternatives beyond oat milk I.e coconut, almond or soya. Unfortunately there were two large tables that arrived just before us which meant a wait for food also there seemed to be only one waitress (who was very good!). The number of people who are at the same time also meant a big wait for the toilet after we all ate! Would definitely come back and recommend to others though!

The first meal after the relaxing of lockdown. Very pleased that is was at this great restaurant. Lucky to have a table outside in the sunshine. Well appointed and set up to observe distancing without diminishing the enjoyment of restaurant service which was faultless. Exquisite starters of (really fresh) mackerel with lentils and another of soft tender artichoke with beetroot puree. Followed by Coq au Vin and soft perfectly cooked Bavette with Bearnaise and incredible chips. Thank you for an incredible meal x

Four of us went to dinner 8pm on saturday night having little idea of what to expect food wise as there is no evening menu on the website so we relied on pictures taken of various menus on the chalk board. We were shown to a small table in the middle of the room which felt very cramped and the room was noisy. Drinks arrived quickly as we chose from an interesting chalk board settling forsharing olives, bread and Charcuterie to start then Rebrochon Tartiflette, Contit Duck leg with black pudding, Moules Marnieres and Red Mullet with scallops. Every mouthful of every plate was perfect as were the wines drunk with it. The Lemon tart pudding and the pastis were also excellent. The plates were not large and the prices were not cheap, but it was certainly worth the money. the staff were friendly and professional and there when you needed them. The whole experiance reminded me of the atmosphere and food we had eaten in bistros in france in the 1970's and the fact that the place was packed and the table was small just made it for a great evening. Highly recommended.

This restaurant was recommended to us by Julien Plumart (he of Bake-off-professionals fame), and wow were we pleased by the recommendation and the experience. Really friendly from the moment we walked in mid-afternoon to make the booking to the point we left the restaurant after one of the best meals I've had for such a long time. Chicken and camembert salad starter was delicious, my partner's steak bavette was as it should be (very well cooked if not the best cut). I think my steak tartare had been bathed in truffle. Simply delicious. The staff were very happy to recommend wine with each dish, and very good at it. The berry and almond tart definitely tasted French (i.e. it was made with buckets of butter). It appeared that some of the customers were regulars which is always a good sign. A restaurant with great character and atmosphere, and wonderful food and wine. Will definitely go back, and highly recommend.

Arrived without a reservation to a warm welcome from waitress Alexandra, a table found for my fiance very quickly. Our choice in wine was aided by Ben who has a sommelier's knowledge of wine, it was so interesting to learn about the different wines vegore dinner and matched us with the perfect red for our sirloin steaks. The steaks were juicy, tender and cooked to perfection, the bernaise sauce was rich and delicious and the frites tasted like minature little baked potatoes... Something special in the way they are prepared make them stand out. Everything was tasty and satisfying. I wish i lived locally, this would be my new happy place. The service is warm, friendly, exemplary. Highly recommend.

What an amazing place for brunch! We had seen the great reviews so tried it for ourselves and were not disappointed 👏👏. We went for Eggs popeye & chicken and mushrooms on sourdough - both were perfect 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I can’t believe what they manage to serve up in a small space. They all work like a well oiled machine 🙌🏻👍🏻

Really mediocre, overpriced, food and incredibly rude staff….. the service felt very rushed, to the point where they were stacking chairs on our table before we had got up to leave and then swore at us!! So many much, much, better restaurants in Brighton on every level ….avoid at all costs

Mange Tout is off the beaten track and a quirky Café. Mange Tout means to Eat All in French. I certainly ate all my Mange Tout Végétarien for £11.50 (seared Sussex organic haloumi cheese, roasted mushrooms, wilted spinach, tomato compote, two organic eggs any way et organic tartine). I found the dish exquisite and especially the sauce. Five members of staff were busy attending to the diners. They have 8 tables outside and 14 inside (single). There's art work available at around £230 for various pieces. The staff were knowledgeable on the sourcing of products.

There are so many places to choose from for brunch in Brighton on a wet wintry day and we ‘lucked out’ in choosing this place. It’s like Bill’s was before it became a commercialised chain - vibrant, tasty with an enthusiastic and attentive staff - 6 front of house for maybe 15 tables ( 40 or so people). An amazing buzz, people in and out all the time. Of course, the food is central and it was outstanding - my wife chose an omelette with spinach, mushroom and cheese (£8.50) and I had a beautiful lentil and leek, salad, za’atar, mackerel and beetroot salsa (I chose the large which was ample at £16 but a smaller version is available at £11) Wide selection available.

We’ve been going to Mange Tout for many years and have always been delighted with the food and service, but goodness how things have changed. Music blaring, staff larking about and lifting each other in the air (really? This isn’t a cheap cafe, it’s a bistro that used to be known for good food and excellent service). I have had gnocchi many times at mange tout, so I was delighted to see that ‘crispy gnocchi’ was on the menu. What we were given was cloying, inedible soggy lumps. When we sent it back (first time I’ve ever had to send anything back at mange tout) we were told that ‘the chef hadn’t cooked it enough’. Again really? We have to tell the chef how to prepare the food now? The crème brûlée was okay, but nothing special. This is the second time we’ve been to mange tout since Ben stepped back and it’s clear to anyone who is a regular customer that what’s needed is a good manager to step in before it’s reputation is irrevocably tarnished. Until then we’ll be giving it a wide berth.

Have previously been for both brunch and dinner and received good service and lovely food, however sometimes a true test is when things go a little less smoothly. Unfortunately my partner had a long hair buried in his food which was rather unpleasant, but of course these things very occasionally happen. He has had this once before and that restaurant, fairly similar to mange tout in other ways, offered a new replacement dish and also did not charge for the dish at all. Perhaps this was just a sign of a place with exceptional service, but I felt mange tout let themselves down by just giving a 10% discount, cheekily still adding a 10% service charge so essentially no discount whatsoever. When I mentioned to a waiter that I was a little disappointed given the high regard I had previously had for mange tout and the superior experience in a similar situation elsewhere, he just shrugged and told me "well we did replace the dish". Personally I feel that is an absolute minimum to be expected in such a situation and certainly not going above and beyond as it seemed they were implying. It's a real shame as I would have hoped they might handle the situation better. I will choose the other restaurant next time!

The perfect finish to a weekend away! Who wants to get up on a Sunday morning and head out to a disappointment, well deffo not us! This place is just as a French bistro should be. People bustling for a table eager to be part of the buzz. Packed even for Covid times this was going to be yummy from the 'hello'. Proper brewed teas ordered and the 'popeye' for both as well. Toasted sourdough tooped with spinach, bacon (the tastiest I have ever eaten) poached eggs and hollandaise sauce all with a good walloping of black pepper. I could stay all day in the place given the choice. The lunch and dinner menu had everything a man could want...and more. We will be back even if it does cost a train journey and hotel room. This place is well worth it.
