Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I never write reviews. The chef at the Dover modifies the menu for me as a follow a ketogenic diet. Today he did pan fried hake on a bed of shredded cabbage with some slivers of tomato served with broccoli and cauliflower. (And probably other...stuff) The seasoning was superb I cannot think of any fault or any way he could have made this better. I never give top marks. This was 10/10More

Lovely little pub. Great staff. Pub food with veggie options. We only called in for afternoon drinks but it was very enjoyable. Lovely atmosphere.

There are several pubs along Southover Street, Brighton but the Dover Castle has always been my favourite. It has changed hands several times during my intermittent visits over the last 25 years, which has resulted in changes to decor and food but I have enjoyed...them all. However after my visit the other Sunday, I'd say that the current landlords are definitely leading the way with the food! The roast dinner was outstanding. I had the beef and my friend had the roast chicken. Loved all the different types of veg, the gravy, the lot! It was a good job that we'd missed breakfast because it was a very generous portion too! Topped off with friendly service, this is still my favourite Southover Street pitstop.More

One of the few pub near us with heated outside and partially covered space where you can eat and drink at reduced risk. Staff friendly but not always masked,I know it's personal choice etc but if you want to go to pub and sit outdoors...this is our pub of choice these days.More

Service was great and I think atmosphere is always really good in the pub. The roasts came with an abundance of veg, Yorkshire puds on all and the meat tasted quality. The only downfall was that all our meals were on the cold side. Shame....Might put us off visiting again.More

The bar staff were lovely, but didn't make up for the rubbish food. They had run out of Sunday roasts, fair enough, but what we were served instead was insulting, I had ordered a salad which was really poor guacamole as advertised was not added,...'leaves' was some shredded round lettuce which from the amount of grit had clearly not been washed. Cauliflower cheese as a side dish was cold. My partner had burger , good, but the fries were barely cooked. No salad as ordered or garnish of any kind. Very disappointing. Heading back to'the geese' down the road.More

We had such a great time celebrating my partners birthday at the Dover Castle - the communication about the big group booking was prompt, helpful and really friendly. On the day the food was delicious - the best roasty friends and I have had in...Brighton for ages. The service was great - they were really busy - but nothing was too much trouble, the waitress that served our table was really friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was relaxed, we had a few children and babies with us and we were made to feel really welcome. Overall a really wonderful afternoon! I would throughaly recommend heading to the Dover Castle! :)More

The sign of a good pub Sunday roast is consistency, and the Dover Castle serves consistantly good roasts.I have been three times in the last month, (I like Sunday roasts!), and each time they have been perfect. Not only are they perfect, but the staff...there are super friendly and the atmosphere is great - relaxed and welcoming, Maybe because its up a big hill, the annoying idiots who choose to come to Brighton to get drunk don't make it this far, so the crowd is mainly locals and not gangs of lads called Bazza all getting 10 shots of Jagermeister and wearing a "sex instructor" t-shirt. The roast is fresh and tasty. I had pork belly and it was delicious - lots of crackling! I always get the sides of pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese and they are lovley too. You get the idea. Nice place - great food. I can't fault it. Go. Unless you're an idiot, in which case I recommend Sparkles Night Club* *(there is no sparkles night club);More
