This evening me and my girlfriend came for a meal, from the moment we walked in the whole team were incredibly attentive and made us feel super welcome! James and Henry looked after us impeccably, as every question asked was answered well, very attentive to us and incredibly friendly. Our starters were amazing, we had the King Prawns and Mussels, stunning! Our mains, my girlfriend had the clam linguine again very nice, the only thing that let us down was my main - Culurgiones, I believe it was poorly presented and in my opinion not worth £16 for 8 pieces of pasta literally put in a canned tomato sauce. Apart from that one let down everything else was amazing and would definitely come back soon!!

I have been visiting to this restaurant for over 30 when in Brighton and still enjoy going as the staff are friendly the food usually comes quickly and a good evening is always had by all. I had lasagne as it is one of my favourite meals it was tasty but not a huge portion, years ago it used to be in a massive dish. My friend had carbonara which she enjoyed. It was all very pleasant but I must say that all these years later I still miss how the restaurant used to be before it was moved around it had lost it character. Will still go back again and again.

Visited this restaurant with my daughter as we were strolling around for something to eat and as it was after 9pm we were starting to give up hope as most restaurants seemed to be closed. Luckily for us, Al Duomo was still open and we received a warm welcome from the staff. The interior is lovely and so warm and welcoming with beautiful artwork on the walls.
We were seated next to where the food is cooked which was great. My daughter ordered from the special menu, seabass filet. When it arrived we were both shocked as it was super big, and it came served with a big helping of new potatoes. This was definitely worth the £20 and my daughter was very pleased. I ordered the king prawns which came in a lovely garlic and white wine sauce. I also ordered house fries to go with the prawns but stupidly regret this as although the fries were nice and a generous sized portion I should have ordered garlic bread instead to mop up the prawn sauce.
All in all we both enjoyed what we ate. The service was good, the food was delicious and the ambience lovely. Will definitely return when visiting Brighton again.

I pre ordered 40 meals for my sons birthday meal.
The wait between us being served to the last table was 25 mins
It became embarrassing sitting there while everyone watched us eat. The poor waiter was on his own running around and I don’t fault him.
I asked him if he could please do something to speed up the service he told me it was the pizzas.
We then waited the same amount time for the puddings!
I emailed the restaurant on Monday and they didn’t even bother replying to apologies I was planning on have my birthday meal there but I won’t be going back!!

Place couldn't be less Italian. The food definitely isn't. First, we waited 15 minutes to be seated and our drinks order to be taken on a Monday (quiet) night. They had no draught beers despite being on the menu.
Our one single starter got "mixed up" and brought out with the mains. The "Risotto Primavera" was vile, overcooked rice and vegetables, no flavour whatsoever, however a massive portion. Aubergine on the mixed, grilled vegetable side dish was basically raw and again bland. My partner's pasta with beef "ragu" was the most decent of the meals although it was a beef stew not a ragu.
Every meal came with a withered leaf of basil to make it look like Italian.
Paid the full bill and service charge despite the long wait, mess up and below average food but won't be going back.

I loved this restaurant when we came a couple of years ago. It had brilliant atmosphere, great food and helpful service. However, this year, we were going to Brighton so I booked on their website for an evening meal. This was about two weeks before. A Google search for Al Duomo informs you it's open and the restaurant's website says nothing about it being closed (it literally allows you to book online). After about a week, I was concerned that I had not received an email confirmation of the booking so I sent an email to the address on the website. A couple of days after this I phoned, no one picked up. A couple of days later, I phoned again- no one picked up. Instead, when we arrived in Brighton, as I was concerned I went straight there to find the restaurant locked, with what looks like refurbishment work going on inside. Luckily, another restaurant was able to fit us in last minute on a busy Friday evening. It's such a shame. I know Covid has hit the hospitality industry so hard. But unfortunately, what was once such a brilliant restaurant in my mind, has been so diminished because it is surely unfair to allow customers (especially those who don't live in Brighton to walk past it every day) to book online with no knowledge of the closure. So disappointed :(

Hi Emily, Unfortunately the restaurant was closed for 18 months whilst Covid took its hold on the industry. As the business much later exchanged hands we did not have access to update Google or receive booking emails. I apologise for the inconvenience this caused, though hope you'll visit again when you are back in Brighton

I went to this restaurant October 2021 and was one of the nicest meals I’ve ever had! So, I took my partner here last night (August 13th 2022) for his birthday on our trip down to Brighton and was expecting amazing things!
The food - absolutely awful, no effort had been put into any of what we ordered. We had 2 pizzas and both were soggy in the middle. My partner was sick when he got home as we think something was undercooked on the pizza.
Service - absolutely awful, it was like we was serving ourselves, we didn’t have one set waiter, altogether we had 4 people serving our table. Our table was constantly being pointed at which I find very rude and off putting. The whole time we was there (was 1 hour, no time at all) we felt we was being rushed and pestered. The staff didn’t even know how many people were on our reservation. The staff didn’t know if tonic or lemonade had been put into my drink. We waited 15 mins for 1 drink, when we chased we was then asked ‘how many of those have you actually ordered’ we had ordered 1 and was waiting on 1, we said don’t worry about it we’ll just get the bill. The lad then come back 10 mins later and he said sorry it’s been made you have to have it. We received the bill and we asked 3 members of staff if we could please pay on card and 2/3 of them said yes and never came back.
All in all I’m so disappointed and will never go back here and I will never recommend it to anyone, such a shame as I had such a nice meal here last year. Potentially new owners I wonder??

Hello Lauren, thank you for taking the time to leave us your thoughts. Although reviews of this nature are rare to us, we take them incredibly seriously nonetheless.
We'd like to clarify that the new ownership of Al Duomo has been in place since June 2021 and has not changed.
With regards to the pizza, we apologise that you did not enjoy this, and would have encouraged you to report this to any member of service or management at the time. We would have been more than happy to replace the dishes for you. We cannot substantiate your claim regarding illness, and although regret that your partner was unwell, we can assure that our fridges are strictly checked daily, our kitchen staff are fully trained and that we have had no other complaints of illness on the evening you visited us.
We would like to apologise for your experience with the service on this occasion, as this is not the standard we set. A quick look at our other reviews will show that we place customer satisfaction at the centre of our work, and that your experience is not common. We have taken all of your comments on board and have taken action where appropriate.

It's very rare that a place ticks all of the boxes for me but Al Duomo is levels above anywhere I have eaten in a long time. The layout and decor is the first thing you notice when you arrive which sets the tone for the rest of the meal. You would be forgiven if you thought it was going to be expensive but I couldn't believe my eyes when I was reading the menu. Not only is the food delectable but it comes at a stupidly affordable price! Proper authentic Italian food cooked fantastically and to top it off they have the best staff!! We were lucky enough to be waited by Lucía who was not only professional but so warm and friendly! Her smile was infectious and she even have us some great advice for when we go to Rome!
All in all I'm flabbergasted at how affordable this brilliant place is and I urge anyone who even remotely likes Italian food to head to Al Duomo ASAP!
Thank you for giving us the perfect end to a great weekend! WE WILL BE BACK!!

What a disaster! Have been here many times over the tears,it's gone badly downhill since covid, the lovely selection of choices on the "specials board" is no more.
The "manager" seated us,he seems a little strange, perhaps i am being unfair, maybe the heat was getting to him,or perhaps he was unwell.
Mine was an easy order, fried plaice and chips no starter, and a bottle of house red to share.
The "problems started with my partners order, mixed sea food salad starter, chicken milanaise, said chips on the menu, but he wanted it with a side order of "spag bol"
Waitress said NO,couldn't be done,i called the manager over to ask him why,and to our amazement a row broke out between them, right at our table!
The seafood salad arrived and was consumed (very nice I'm told) my partner had said if he couldn't have what he wanted,he would change to a pasta carbonarra, the manager meanwhile had returned to say that he could have the chicken with a side order of pasta.
My fish and chips has arrived, and was getting cold, and still the battle raged.
At this stage a lady had arrived I've no idea what her role was,ans said that the manager was wrong, the menu was the menu,"that's how the kitchen operated!
My partner said that he had had enough,he would pay for the wine and his starter,an hour had passed,I had eaten nothing.
The bill came, and I asked this lady if she was really going to charge for the starter,we expected to pay for the wine, her reply was "yes,he offered to pay,so we are charging him"
It is worth mentioning that the restaurant was more than half empty (on a summer Friday evening),I wonder why??
We went into The Lanes, found a restaurant, chose and enjoyed what we wanted, end of this comedy of errors.
Will we go back? YES,but not until it changes hands,as I have no doubt it will, sooner rather than later.
I do hope that the owner gets to read this review.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review as you had assured.
Your custom has been appreciated over the years and we are sorry that we were unable to meet your expectations on this occasion. We endeavour to provide the very best food and service and naturally are disappointed if we fail to deliver our very own high standards. Thankfully this is not a common event and as regular customers of the restaurant, I am certain you’ll agree.
As you have mentioned, the confusion occurred following your partner's request to swap a side order of chips for a ‘spag bol’. As spaghetti Bolognese is not a dish on our menu, the actual request was to swap chips for an Orechiette Beef Ragu. Due to this being a main course dish, and not considered a like-for-like swap, the request was declined. Unhappy with the decision you proceeded to challenge this with the restaurant manager who authorised the swap. Despite the agreement to honour the request, this unfortunately, was not conveyed to the chef and a delay in preparing the dish was caused. Due to this, you decided to cancel the order.
It was whilst trying to establish what had occurred with the team and the reason why the dishes had been removed from the bill, I approached your table. This was of course with good intent and with the notion to resolve whatever had happened. Whilst your partner was understandably disappointed, he explained what had occurred and asked for the bill, stating he would only pay for the wine and starter.
However, your response was quite unfriendly and whilst raising your voice and pointing at me, you in no uncertain terms, promised to leave unfavourable comments across all social media platforms. You also implied that one of our competitors would not have questioned the swap. As we do not hold ourselves to the policy of another restaurant, I felt at this stage it was best to provide you with the bill as requested by your partner.
I am unclear as to why this caused you further upset other than your suggestion that you would not leave a damaging review if the bill had been waivered. Under the circumstances, I felt the decision to provide you with a bill for the wine and starter was perfectly reasonable.
I am sorry and understand that you may have felt frustrated however it is always difficult and discouraging when faced with an agitated customer. I do sincerely hope you can understand and appreciate why I decided to provide you with the bill.
Once again, I apologise that we were unable to meet your expectations and hope you are not deterred from visiting the restaurant in the future.

The waiter was drunk. The mains took over 30 minutes to arrive. We were offered parmesan that never materialised. We had to order our drinks twice, and make a special request for cutlery.
We might have forgiven all of the above if this didn't end up being the worst pasta dish either of us had ever tasted. We were ravenous by the time it came, but we still had to leave everything but the first few bites. It was underseasoned, the walnuts hadn't been cooked, the sauce hadn't reduced, and the filling had been overcooked. The pasta itself was underdone and gelatinous. A total disaster.
After we settled up, the waitress said "the food wasn't very good then?". This tells you everything you need to know: she saw that we hadn't eaten it, then let us pay full price without showing any curiosity as to why, because she knew it was bad food. A quality restaurant would have taken these dishes off the bill or offered to make some kind of amends, but this isn't a quality restaurant; it's a tourist trap with aggressive and inebriated staff (with the exception of the waitress, who was neither, but also wasn't very helpful).
Avoid.

Al Duomo is a fantastic choice for wonderful Italian food! The menu had a wide range of choices from pastas to pizzas, from fish to meats. Everything we chose was cooked to perfection (in our opinions). The waiting staff were absolutely lovely, couldn’t have done more for us. And even better was the price, the bill came to a lot less than we expected considering how good the food was, and was even accompanied with a complimentary shot! If we lived in Brighton I think we’d be there every week!

5* isn’t enough! Food was amazing and service incredible. Daniel and Davey went above and beyond to make us feel at home and were very friendly and professional. Extremely helpful also recommending things to do and places to visit around Brighton as we’re here on holiday. (They deserve a raise😉) Would 100% recommend if you’re looking for a chilled out spot to enjoy the sun and view of the pavilion with lovely Italian food. Would recommend the mozzarella ravioli - so good we had to order it twice!!! Shout out to Patrick also for looking after our lost item till we could collect it! One of our fave spots in Brighton! Perfect all round 😍 will be back before we go!🥳

We visited Brighton and we stopped by at Al Duomo on Monday 28/06.
The Gentleman who greeted us was great and the service from the lovely lady from Salerno was delightful.
She is so kind and helpful! An absolute star.
We are Italian and we enjoyed the meal which means the food was very good!
Although they did not have teh kind of pasta I ordered, they quickly offered alternatives and it was definetely worth it.
Will visit again!
GRAZIE!

We came here for dinner at 6pm on a Friday, we booked online which was easy.
However when we arrived they didn't offer us any water and immediately asked what food we'd like, we didn't get much time to view the menu.
We chose a different pizza each which weren't cut and we were not given a sharp enough knife to cut it ourselves, the ravioli parcels to start which was pasta deep fried, it was so confusing as Italian food is meant to be so clean and simple.
We could see our pizzas being made which was a nice touch but the food was very average and quite expensive.
2 small bottles peroni, 2 pizzas and the starter was £55
The whole experience felt like like you were on a conveyor belt, no personality to it at all.
Such a shame and we likely won't return.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review though it is disappointing to hear that you felt your visit lacked personality.
In response to your feedback, I would like to advise you that whilst we suggest water once seated this is not something we offer on arrival. Should you of course want this, we very happily would have provided water on request.
Unfortunately, and with regard to the pizzas, I cannot explain why these were served uncut as it is standard practice to slice every pizza prior to serving. It is also highly unusual that our experienced pizza chef or staff did not do this. I can only apologise for this and again for the pizza knives that you mention were not sharp enough. Generally, I would not expect a pizza to be uncuttable and therefore would recommend this to have been brought to the attention of your server.
We are passionate about our food and service and want every guest to enjoy their dining experience with us. As such we would happily replace a dish that has not been served to our own high standard or does not meet your expectations.
We’re sorry to have not been given the opportunity to address your concerns at the time of your visit and hope you are not discouraged from visiting us again in the future.

Disappointing visit! Starters of bread and olives never arrived but were still on the bill. Two of us ordered pizza and one ordered pasta which arrived 10 minutes after the pizzas. We asked for a bottle of house wine which we were told was not available so ordered alternative. We asked for a jug of tap water 3 times before it arrived. Pizza topping ok but very soggy bottom. £6 salad consisted of lettuce, tomato and cucumber, no dressing. £84 bill included £9.50 service charge which had we had more time I would have insisted on not paying but by the time we'd explained we never got the bread or olives starter and got a revised bill we had to leave. Not a very happy customer
