On and off we have been coming to Sawadee for 12 years on our visits to Brighton, glad to report it is still as good as ever.
Fantastic food with great sized portions, we opted for one of the set meals which offered a good variety at a great price. All very flavoursome.
And of course great staff who offer a very warm welcome, long may this star of St James Street shine bright!

Reasonably priced.
I had a portion of Thai prawns crackers with sweet chili £2.00
Vegetarian red curry £7.95
Pad Thai prawns £8.95.
Food was delicious. I will definitely come back with my family.

I have eaten a takeaway from this restaurant every week for over 2 years. That alone is testament to the quality of the food at Sawadee.
I always eat the same dish number 48 Ga Prao pork with steamed rice (£9.95). In all that time I have never once had a meal that anything less than superb. The quality of the food is consistent and consistently good.
The manager and staff are always friendly and in the times that I have eaten in with my partner that food too has always met my expectations.
I totally recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves Thai or Asian food and compared to its competitors the value is unbeatable.
If you haven't eaten here yet I urge you to go. This is a genuine review from a satisfied customer with dozens of restaurant reviews to my name so give it a go when you're next in Kemptown.

Not good, customer service pretty poor, funny too, tables of 6 get free thai crackers, our tables bill was £28 more than the table of 6 but unless you are in a large group dont expect anything.
I dont mind paying for anything but fair is fair.
Food was mediocre which disappoints me to say ad we ate here 12 months ago and scored it 5 stars.
This time was not a good experience.
Did we feel welcome? NO.

Call to book. Some covid measures in place (server wore mask, tables well spaced - but menus passed around). Nice food and decent value. Extremely slow service and sometimes brought half the order at a time with a long wait for the rest.

Perfect food with friendly service. I’m not sure what more you want from our neighbourhood Thai restaurant. The staff there are unbelievably friendly and helpful, the food is fresh and delicious and the atmosphere is warm and casual.
I have been there with my girlfriend for a Romantic dinner and it was perfect. I’ve also been there with some friends for a casual group dinner and we had a lot of fun.

What a great restaurant: warm, welcoming and spacious with a menu to please anyone who loves Thai food. On a recent visit with a London friend we focused on the scrumptious prawn and seafood dishes. And the Tom Ka in a rich coconut sauce was amazing. The cheerful and attentive service from Danny matched the quality of the food, too. My guest was so impressed that Sawadee is now top of his list when he pays his next visit to Brighton. Fortunately, I won't have to wait that long!

We stopped by, without a reservation, on a Saturday night. I think we were lucky to get the last ‘walk in’ table, so I’d highly recommend making a reservation. We weren’t planning a long dinner, but had a Tom Yum soup (very spicy and flavourful) and shared a squid starter that was a really rather generous portion size. Both mains were very tasty too, as was the portion of jasmine rice. Rarely do you go to a restaurant and think ‘they really should put their prices up’ but this was such good value for money, when the bill came I expected it to be at least £20 more. The staff appear quite young, but they are extremely friendly and attentive. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Proof that a great meal doesn’t always have to be an expensive one.

Valentine's treat for me as I love Thai food. Definitely not disappointed the meal was lovely. Being Valentine's night the place was very busy. Despite this the food came pretty quickly. I had spicy pork with chilli and basil, my partner had fruity duck curry. Both dishes were well cooked and delicious. Will go again as this was an enjoyable meal. Recommended.

Today we had the pleasure of visiting Sawadee Thai Restaurant. From the moment of booking the visit over the phone Danny the owners was extremely warm and we had a feeling we were on to a winner!
On the day we arrived Danny warmly welcomed us and was full of recommendations. Everything was extremely fresh and had just the right amount of spice (I don’t usually go for spice).
We kicked things off with the Papaya Salad which goes well with the Thai prawn crackers. We each went for a Curry (The Jungle Curry and the Green Curry respectively) with Egg fried rice.
I am sorry because we’ve already eaten it so I can’t upload a picture. However, if you choose to book here do so with CONFIDENCE! They know their stuff, and make the food with love.
5* Food coupled with 5* service. Thank you to Danny and all the staff at Sawadee.

My wife and I decided to book this restaurant one evening. Contacted them described the table we would like to reserve, and time. They could not have been more obliging. Upon our arrival the restaurant had a really good feel, warm atmosphere, and quite busy. Staff were very attentive, my wife has special dietary requirements, dairy, gluten, and egg free. This was not an issue for them. When the food arrived it was delicious, it was hot, and served with a smile. Thank you for a lovely evening, and we will return, and recommend to others.

All the directories and even its own website indicated it did not open weekdays until the evening. So it was a pleasant surprise to find it open last Wednesday lunchtime although I was the sole diner. It’s a fairly standard but extensive Thai menu in an atmospheric Victorian building with colourful knick-knacks. Before my starter of squid came a little plate with some complimentary prawn crackers. Although I thought I’d ordered a fruity duck curry with pineapple a massaman arrived. Don’t think I’ve had a potato based duck curry before but it worked just as well as the fruity one. Service was both friendly and efficient.

This place was phenomenal I would definitely recommend going here.
I ordered a chicken satay , green curry prawns , and I loved it one of the dishes I recommend trying was chicken satay.
This is a great place. The atmosphere is very chill, and the waitresses were lovely and friendly and I enjoyed the food and everything as the customer service was great and they were very respectful. I’ll definitely come here again.

Just walked in as we were passing, it was quite late -9.30 but we were made very welcome & didn’t feel rushed at all. We can highly recommend the Chicken Massaman & the drunken duck !! Plenty of meat in both dishes & it was very tender. Excellent value for money & the drinks were excellent value too ! We were only staying in Brighton for 1 night otherwise we would have visited again ! One of the nicest Thai meals we’ve had in ages . Sad that we don’t live nearer !! 🥲

We booked a table for 730 on bank holiday Monday and we’re initially impressed with the speed of the confirmation email. We had read some excellent earlier reviews and were looking forward to it.
On arrival at the restaurant and letting the manager know we had a reservation it was obvious our table hadn’t been reserved at all. We were asked to wait outside- which isn’t a great start but he managed to find a table after a few minutes next to the toilets.
It was obvious the two waiting staff were working very hard but weren’t able to keep up. Orders took along time to come out - starter 40 mins and main course 30, drinks were served quickly but anything related to the kitchen was slow.
The mixed starter was average at best - not dressed the way other Thai restaurants do.
The main courses were poor - lack of lemongrass, no chilli and small quantities of meat - best dish was the jasmine rice!
So we can’t recommend based on this visit, hopefully they were having a bad day and can turn it round.
