Lunch was mediocre - boeuf bourguignon came looking like a charred lump of coal. Men's (upstairs) urinals were filthy - they both had a black deposit in them. The bar looked grubby and untidy as did the barman making cocktails. The area by the till...More

I went with a friend and a 1 year old for cream tea. We sat at a table and browsed the menu only to be told to move as the table was reserved despite there being no reserved sign. We asked for a high chair...More

Place looks interesting. We sat in the adjacent courtyard or almost mews like addition to the main restaurant. Was a nice warm evening. Upstairs, surrounding the small courtyard were a number of what looked like small chalets. Pastel painted doors above us. One of the...More

Thank you for a lovely evening, thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Only suggestion is that the tables were a little too close together - we could hear the conversations of both couples either side of us in full. Thank you Sebastiano for a faultless...More

It's a shame having to write a bad review as I usually adore this restaurant, but I fear it's going downhill judging by other reviews! We went for the 4 course Sunday lunch. The soup was quite thin and watery, the 'market table' had next...More

This is the third time that I have been to this restaurant over the last 5 years and it seems to have gone downhill in that time. We went as a party of eight, and between us had a very mixed dining experience. Whilst some...More

We have eaten here several times but today our lunch was very disappointing. My husband ordered French Onion Soup which he found quite tasteless so only drank half of it. He ordered Beef Bourginon which was ok except they had used Pickled onions ! The...More

The location is great. The ingredients are good. The steak tartare was very nice as was the smoked salmon. The chicken and artichoke was so bland it was pointless. The steaks (ordered rare, medium rare and medium well) came rare, cold and well done respectively....More

The good or the bad? Bad first. We had finished our meal and were sitting with our wine when a waiter who had not served us came to inform us that they needed the table and we could sit in the bar to finish our...More

Having booking afternoon tea some 6 weeks ahead of the day I was rather disappointed when we arrived as a table hadn't been set up for us. We were offered and area to sit in either the bar area or upstairs in a gallery or...More

Shorts are fine in the courtyard but not really appropriate in the Bistro... but their dress code is pretty relaxed having said that.

Description
The Hotel du Vin Bistro in Brighton is just off the seafront and five minutes from the madly inspiring shops in The Lanes, but who would want to leave? Set in a collection of gothic and Tudor revival buildings built by, so apt, a wine merchant, the hotel has the trademark stylish, witty, super comfortable dcor that has won the group so many awards. The restaurant is elegant and relaxed and usually full, offering a menu rooted in classic European cuisine with a contemporary edge. The simple classics change seasonally, augmented by head chef Rob Carrs own creations each day. The extensive, eclectic wine list is central to the hotel, with a great number of choices by the glass.
