Paid a little more for a fine dining experience - wish we'd gone elsewhere. Really ordinary. Merlot was nice (hard to mess that up) and the paté was ok but with tiny pieces of toast and delicate chutney I found with a magnifying glass over...More

Firstly, the food we ate was excellent - the food came out piping hot, was plentiful and very tasty, one of the best steaks I've had in ages. However, the service, albeit friendly and willing, was a total mess. As we were in no rush,...More

Numbingly ordinary food, overpriced, lukewarm lager, poor service. The aubergine and haloumi featured undetectable haloumi. Woeful pretentiousness.

I stayed at Du Vin last year and it was fantastic! The room, dinner at bistro and drinks at the bar. Hence high expectations this time. But was disappointed. My pumpkin risotto was well presented but very tasteless and rice was certainly undercooked. Service was...More

Shorts are fine in the courtyard but not really appropriate in the Bistro... but their dress code is pretty relaxed having said that.

Description
The Hotel du Vin Bistro in Brighton is just off the seafront and five minutes from the madly inspiring shops in The Lanes, but who would want to leave? Set in a collection of gothic and Tudor revival buildings built by, so apt, a wine merchant, the hotel has the trademark stylish, witty, super comfortable dcor that has won the group so many awards. The restaurant is elegant and relaxed and usually full, offering a menu rooted in classic European cuisine with a contemporary edge. The simple classics change seasonally, augmented by head chef Rob Carrs own creations each day. The extensive, eclectic wine list is central to the hotel, with a great number of choices by the glass.
