Exceptional Sunday Roasts. I had the Nut Roast and my partner the Roast Beef. Everything was cooked to perfection and delivered hot to the table. Every morsel a joy and two empty plates at the end. Accompanied by a surprisingly good but cheap Merlot. Great...atmosphere. Friendly and polite staff. Nothing to complain about at all.More

Friends went for a roast as the Geese was full and didn’t realise how bad it was. Once again they didn’t fail to disappoint. Avoid this place at all costs, not only hit and miss food but rude staff and manager/owner!

Disgusting Sunday lunch We ordered the belly pork and gammon when it arrived. The belly pork was burnt and was placed upside down on the plate so we wouldn’t see the burn bit. The gammon was overcooked and small, and to be honest it looked...like a piece of old tongue the roast potatoes were Anaemic and tough and the beetroot was roasted too long and was caramelising and burnt. What was astonishing is that when we complained we were given beef which was equally as bad. The guy we spoke to seem to smirk as we were explaining it was not good enough and offered to give us 50% off of food we were not interested in saving money we were only interested in pointing out the food was not up to standard. After this experience. We will not be going back again because basically if they had been apologetic and maybe had said it was not up to their usual standard etc then we would possibly understand however, the service was atrocious including the gravy ! Bland, sickly and definitely I’m not up to their usual standard. What a shame !!More

Had a late-ish roast here yesterday with my husband and my 13 and 18 year old - and we were all v impressed. It’s always a gamble with a roast after 6pm but it was AMAZING! The young staff were fab, so lovely and attentive...- it was like eating at a restaurant rather than a pub. I’m the sole veggie in our family and the choice was excellent. Apparently the meat was fantastic too (esp the chicken). Deffo going back - thank you!More

We had a birthday lunch for 12 people. Everything was outstanding from the moment we arrived. I was told that the food was great by a friend and it exceeded expectations! Our party tried most dishes - all were excellent and excellent value for money....The wine and beer selection was great. James made our visit extra special by looking after us so well - excellent service. I cannot recommend The Greys more highly!More

Absolutely exceptional food - whoever your chef is, hold onto him tight. Never heard of this place until a friend over coffee mentioned it for a good toast and frankly it was the best roast I’ve possibly ever had and the pudding was delicious too...and worth every penny of £6 for a pudding. Dog friendly and even cooked a sausage for him. Friendly staff, trusting enough to have a table tab which is always a nice touch. Blackboard menu which I absolutely adore. Highly recommend under this chef as you can tell they have a passion for foodMore

This is a small venue - about 8 tables. We were given a table in the middle of the room, with staff having to pass constantly - none of who noticed that our food had not arrived an hour after we had ordered, despite bringing...food for people who had arrived up to 40 minutes after us. When I followed up on this, a few more minutes passed before somebody came back to us with "oh, sorry - what was it you order? We'll get it done as soon as we can." At that stage we considered the chances of this establishment being able to produce a decent meal to be virtually nil, based on the poor organisation and service up to that point. Very much got he feeling that older customers are to be discouraged. Instead we went up to the top of the Hill (locals will know where) and met with a friendly, helpful staff who managed to fit us in for what proved to be a great roast, which helped salvage the afternoon. The only mark I can give the Greys is for the beer and wine, very good but a bit pricey.More

Visited The Greys again today after a few years away and we were very impressed with the quality & quantity of their Sunday lunches. The portion sizes were huge, the veggie/vegan options were excellent and our meat-eating friend said her roast chicken was delicious. Staff...were welcoming & friendly despite it being very busy when we arrived. The food arrived quickly after ordering and was hot & tasty. Couldn’t fault anything - we were too full up after the main courses to sample any of the desserts but they also looked great. Booking is pretty much essential as only limited space in this small pub, although they do serve food until 8pm on a Sunday, assuming there’s anything left by then! Definite 10/10 for quality & quantity/value for money (£15 main course). Will be returning soon.More

Visited this pub with some friends for a Sunday roast. The food was mediocre. Very bland overall with undercooked potatoes (got two on the plate ) and everything being extremely sweet almost too sweet to eat. The staff and the venue were absolutely lovely, they...were really nice and we saw them interacting with other customers in the same manner - great convos and created a nice atmosphere for everyone. The food came out relatively quickly but we wouldn’t have minded waiting longer if the potatoes were cooked properly cause the ambience was so nice. Drinks were cheap for the area but food was too much for what we got tbhMore

We visted here on a Friday night and ordered the Portuguese fish stew and polenta chips. The fish stew was delicious, sea bass cooked to perfection as were the mussels, crab, clams and prawns. Very generous portions and the polenta chips were a very nice...addition. Service was great, definately a gem on the Brighton food scene!More

So pleased we found this great pub! Food on offer on a wet Sunday night in February was just what anyone would want.. great choice of roasts, beef, pork belly, free range chicken and vegetarian and vegan options. We opted for roast beef which came...with roast potatoes, and 6 or 7 other veg, plus Yorkshire pudding and brilliant gravy! We also ordered the cauliflower and cheese side.. just delicious!! Staff were lovely, so friendly and helpful.. loved the interesting and relaxing decor. Sorry I took the photos after I'd had my first big slice of beef!More

A very busy Sunday evening. We sat at a table for six with another couple at the other end. Ideal. They had six varieties of roast: my daughter had the vegan and I had the spinach, ricotta and goats cheese Wellington roast. Both excellent. Well...presented and quickly served bearing in mind the place was packed. Hanover is lucky to have a good choice of local pubs and long may it continue.More
