Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Awful three-day food poisoning. Riddle and Finns claimed it must have been stomach flu but how did my husband get seriously ill for three days (starting a few hours after eating there and not eating anything else that afternoon and night) but I was absolutely...fine? He had shellfish and I didn’t. Tried to complain but this complaint was dismissed by the restaurant. Couldn’t complain to the council as they require a doctor’s diagnosis and where we live it takes three weeks to see a doctor so this wasn’t possible. I definitely won’t risk my health by eating there again.More

We had a lovely meal great food! Although we were taken back a bit with the odd seating policy that we were sharing tables with strangers opposite us so we kind of faced each other when sat next to one another! Food was amazing can’t...fault that one bit! The oysters were incredible 🦪More

I finally made it to eat here. Not deterred by being the only solo diner especially as I had a seat central right at the windows prefect view of a glorious sunny afternoon. Delicious fresh fish and great service. I’ve eaten at the Lanes branch...many many times and I’ll be back to the Beach too!More

I had eaten here before as a solo diner. We were surprised that we were not allowed to sit opposite each other. The manager said that it was company policy and if we didn't like it we could leave. We stayed. My meal was good...but my friend was less impressed with her meal. I won't be troubling them with my money again.More

This restaurant may be dog friendly but it certainly isn’t customer friendly. It well deserves its reputation for being rude and overpriced. An absurd rule forbids a pair of customers sitting opposite each other. They have to sit side by side. When I questioned the...rationale I was told I could go elsewhere. Sadly my dining companion didn’t wish to go out into the rain so we stayed. Our waitress, over eager and under trained, talked enthusiastically with her hands, invading my space. She kept going through her speech about the menu long after we said we had already decided. The food ranged from average to good. Portions were uneven, some small, some OK. The potted shrimps tasted of pepper and were mostly fat. The tempura prawn batter was heavy and the dressing uninteresting. My main course fish soup (£26) had a tasty base but the 4 mussels, 4 clams, 3 small pieces of unidentifiable fish, a potato, 2 pea shoots, a langoustine, rouille, bread but no cheese was mean. My companion enjoyed the smoked haddock and the tiramisu. The £189 bill, including £21 service (which I personally would not have paid) was very high for what we’d had – 2 starters (all about £15 each), 2 mains (not specials), 1 dessert, a bottle of wine plus 3 other glasses. Perhaps they didn’t want 2 elderly women as customers? The restaurant was far from full. The excellent view of the windfarm and the nature reserve pier, although interesting, didn’t make up for rudeness of the maître d’. Avoid.More

As the years go by I find dishes less tasty…but that isn’t the case with Riddle and Finns. The chowder was spicy (even maybe a bit too peppery) and the linguine great (maybe a bit too salty). The seafood was prevalent, elevating the dishes to...my expectations. The staff was exceptional. Fairly priced for the experience.More

Have been many times to Riddle and Finns purely because we love the food here and the service is always good. Again we were not disappointed. The head waiter John T was friendly, and incredibly helpful. 5 stars for him alone! We drank Gavi smooth,...dry, a lovely wine, and ate tempura monkfish, which was crispy and delicious, came with a warming dip that complimented it really well. the squid and shellfish risotto was rich and creamy, I savoured every mouthful. Definitely be having that again! The seafood linguini, delicious, our usual go to, need I say more! On that day in particular key lime pie was not available, so we were recommend to try their passion fruit posset. That was, heavenly. I see now they have it on the menu full-time. Phew, was hoping that it would be! The chefs here definitely know their palate, how to cook fish perfectly, and as I have now discovered are pretty damned accomplished at deserts too. Usually too full to go there, so will definitley be saving room next time. 5 stars for the chefs! Riddle and Finns, can't wait till next time, You are amazing! Thank you.More

Visited this restaurant with my son on a busy Saturday in Brighton during April 2024. The food we ordered was of excellent quality and tasted incredible. Really is a place to go if you love fish dishes. Service was generally good but strangely we got...sat outside as we were told they had no space inside. Before, during and after our visit they had space inside. Maybe just a waiter being poor at his job sitting us outside. Fortunately we were dressed for a fresh April day so made sitting outside work, otherwise we would have walked away which would have been a shame. In summary, superb food.More

Amazing oysters and caviar, delicious champagne and friendly, helpful staff! You do have to share tables with other people so not always the best for dates, but really beautiful little restaurant, with sea views. Already looking forward to coming back!

Really disappointed! So looking forward to this meal and it was overpriced and underwhelming! You share a table with 6 strangers who ate all at different stages of their meal and coming and going. The mussels were nice, the calamari like cardboard and the lobster...Thermidor was cold and watery. Desert was nice. All in all it was 5 star prices for a 2 star meal. £260 !!! We would never go backMore

Hello, there are car parks close to the seafront but be aware that like all parking in Brighton it is extremely expensive and that is once you have managed to drive through the city.
