Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have used this excellent hostelry for Sunday lunch and their special nights. These are Tuesday evening for 'curry' and Thursday evening for 'Tapas'. Glorious food and wonderful staff. One of my friends remarked ' if I lived down here, I would be a regular...on a Thursday!'More

Lovely old boozer, with decent beer and a good menu of home cooked food. Friendly and fun customer service from Alex at the bar.

Went for Ruby Tuesday. Haven’t been before but went with people who have been several times. It’s a curry night so you get a tower of poppadoms with the chutneys etc, includes a beer or a glass of wine and then a great selection of...curries that come with rice and a naan bread. The service was great and friendly and it’s absolutely great value.More

Love this place! Chef will cook a good fresh meal to our liking and the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable, set in the buzz of Old Town.

Enjoyable Sunday lunch but a shame that all the nut roasts had gone when we arrived as only one meat eater in our party of 6! Only two completely veggie options but we managed okay and still enjoyed ourselves.

Went here with friends for a few drinks, all was well till I asked for some water. The bar women was nice enough but the bar man clearly doesn’t know how to do his job professionally. Patronised me to say ‘please’ when all I asked...for was ‘just a glass of water if that’s okay’. He then proceeded to mumble something as he walked away. Which apparently was something about me having poor manners which was hilarious as couldn’t be more ironic. Left shortly after as no way was I going to tolerate that. Coincidently saw him out later that night and when he noticed me he couldn’t disappear quick enough, which says it all about the audacity he feels behind the bar he works at. I have noticed a few other comments here about a rude bar man. Most likely the same person, so wanted to add my experience here. This place would be better off firing the miserable guy and try maintain a nice atmosphere. Anyway, far better bars in Hastings to go too, everywhere else we went was a good time.More

Fantastic meal last night in a proper pub. Good choice of starters and mains with separate Christmas menu. We'd particularly recommend the squid, tuna and chowder starters, and pie, cajun chicken, masalla and ox cheek mains. Compliments to the chef! Staff very friendly too.

We arrived in Hastings fairly late in the day and had a walk around the old town for some food, we headed into the Hastings arms and were greeted by very friendly and welcoming staff who helped us and our young child get sat and...sorted, We ordered our food and asked for the childs food to come with the starters, Child ordered sausage and chips, we ordered the camembert starter with the Greek pie and Korean chicken burger mains, Starters: The camembert was exactly what you expect however was served with some lovely thick cut toast. Mains The Greek pie was nice and my partner would happily order this again, The Korean chicken burger was delicious, the chicken was battered in what seemed like fish batter but in this application was really really nice, the Korean element came from the sauce which seemed to be a Gochujang based sauce and added a lot of flavour. Really lovely little pub and the staff really did make the environment in the pub a welcoming and warm place to be. Thank you for looking after us.More

Just had a wonderful lunch in the Hastings Arms. My partner had Sri Lankan fish curry….flavoursome, lovely portion of cod loin..myself had spanakopita pie with Greek salad..blooming delicious. A wonderful white Rioja was a great accompaniment. Trendy, welcoming, faultless service! Especially Lou behind the bar...and Sue and Joe working hard in the kitchen. If you’ve never been, give it a try.More

Well… initially this was a positive visit… a lovely lady served me at the bar as I was waiting for a friend to join me. The food was tapas and I’m vegetarian and was initially pleased with the choice for me…sadly though the meal was...spoiled because one of the dishes had to be left untouched. I ordered aubergine which is my absolute favourite … something I eat in restaurants all the time and also cook at home… it was tough as old boots meaning it wasn’t cooked enough and I left literally the whole thing in tact… this in itself wouldn’t have spoiled our visit… I politely told the staff why I had left it … I wasn’t rude at all… I went to pay and as the initial staff member had indicated that they would take this item off the bill … I was also going to purchase another round of drinks … but changed my mind when a very rude member of staff… who was too busy watching Sheffield play football on his phone to even look at me when I was having a conversation … grunted at me that 8 other people had ordered the aubergine and they hadn’t complained. Well maybe they hadn’t … maybe the chef had got bored by the time it came to undercooking my food? Who knows… but obviously when a dish is left uneaten and nearly completely untouched … with one bite out of it…that tells you it wasn’t right?… I cancelled my further drinks order … and left this rude bloke who obviously had little or no customer service training … watching his football… I wouldn’t recommend any tourists visiting for a meal when he is on duty… he obviously thinks that we’re only passing through on holiday so no need to be pleasant. Nil points to The Hastings Arms … I hope you enjoyed your football!!!More

The Old Town of Hastings has many interesting eateries, but we were in the mood for a classic Sunday lunch. We walked into the Hastings Arms on spec. It immediately felt like a proper pub, albeit with quirky decoration. We were tempted by the selection...of pies on offer and went for those instead of a roast. My steak and Stilton pie was absolutely delicious - a proper pie, rather than just a beef stew with a top! Delicious large meltingly soft pieces of beef in a rich sauce and with a delightful crust. Served with creamy mash, vegetables and plenty of gravy. One of the best pies I’ve ever had! Likewise, my girlfriend’s steak and kidney pudding was generously filled and reportedly delicious. Price-wise it was great value, especially considering the high quality of the food. We’ll definitely be back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.More

I had a wonderful meal on Saturday night, unfortunately there was a large group that were being extremely rude to the staff, however, the staff dealt with them very well and made sure they didn't affect other diners experiences. The food was fantastic as always...and im very grateful that on such a busy night I was able to enjoy my meal.More

We'd booked for a birthday celebration of 17 people. Table provided for 15 and when we asked the guy at the bar, he said he would get us 2 more chairs. When we said we wouldn't fit around an already snug setting, he said "well...you'll have to". The lady then came over and started to count us incorrectly and when we said we can count and 2 people were without seats she got rather stroppy. We decided to leave due to the ignorance and attitude. Mistakes happen and it could have been easily rectified by them but they decided to handle it this way instead. They then proceeded to shout after us as we left, "Thanks guys!" In a very sarcastic way. Shocking hospitality which meant they missed out on a nearly £1k bill which a very hospitable restaurant gained instead. Shame as I've been here a lot but this visit wasn't really unpleasant 😕More
