We stumbled upon the Dragon while enjoying Hasting's Old Town, saw their lunch board and decided to pop in. Firstly, the decor is great and it has that cozy vibe that makes you want to stay all day. The music playing was just our cup of tea and not too loud and not too quiet. The bartender was friendly, attentive and helpful. But the star of the show was the food! I had the autumn borlotti bean stew with polenta chips and goats cheese and my partner had the wild boar sausages, creamy mash, kale and a red onion gravy to die for!! My stew was amazing and a large portion for a reasonable £10 lunch meal. What a lovely find on a wet and windy day in Hastings.

This is a small but adequate place, we decided to have lunch. The menu's are on blackboards and you are encouraged to take a photo to see what is on offer. They do individual small tapas dishes to larger main meals.
Every dish is cooked fresh and it you request the paella you are advised that there is a wait of 25-30 mins.
Whatever you decide it will blow your mind!
I had the chicken caeser salad, it was absolutely lovely, lots of chicken, bacon, anchovies, sauce, lettuce and parmesan cheese. My partner had Seaford Tagliatelle. WOW he's looked amazing, mussels, clams, king prawns, squid all cooked to absolute perfection. He very very rarely leaves a tip but he left £10 for the chef it was that amazing.
We would even travel from Kent to Hastings just to eat there again.
If you go you will not be disappointed.

What a fantastic find!
We spent a long weekend in Hastings and this is the first restaurant we tried out.
We are foodies, and it’s no over statement to say that we have would rate this the best place to eat in Hastings.
We started with lunch on the Friday (home made wild mushroom gnocchi and pork belly on mash) very reasonably priced and so delicious.
We then tried our luck on the Sunday evening at 7.15, but as it looked so busy we thought we’d be unluckily. Just by chance a table were leaving and we were given that table.
The atmosphere was quite different in the evening, lively and noisy and warm, whereas in the day it had been laid back and chilled.
Both just right for the time of day.
This time we had miso fritto and chorizo and liver in a cream sauce on gnocchi. Again, first class. (The roast dinner looked incredible but it would have been our second roast of the day so we had to rule that out)
We did have to wait a while for our cocktails, but to our surprise at the end of the meal they were taken off the bill!
So fabulous friendly service, attentive staff and a first class chef.
Next time we come to Hastings we will be back!

Before lockdown we were great fans of our lunches at the Dragon Bar when visiting our daughter in Hastings. The menu was always changing with tasty well cooked food. . I hope that the disappointing food served today after waiting for an hour and a half is just a post covid blip.
Limited menu, no small dishes or daily specials. We chose tapas. The squid was rock hard, the mussels were not fresh. We waited a further 15 minutes for an overcooked burger (my granddaughter was not asked how she wanted her burger cooked). The 3 prawns tapas were tasty and the chips were very good. But we will not be coming again.

Recently 'discovered' (yes, all on my own) Dragon Bar and cannot wait to return. The building is beautiful - exactly the type of 'rough luxe' style that gets my aesthetic juices flowing with antique lamps, bare brickwork, original floorboards and, when I visited at Christmas, thousands of twinkling lights wound about branches and boughs that provide a sort of 'lost in a fairy forest' vibe and make you want to stay for hours and hours. The atmosphere is so welcoming and comforting.
We ordered a variety of dishes including the sea bass, vegan beetroot and butternut squash 'wellington' (the most delicious vegan... anything.... I've ever tasted), rosemary fries, pizzas and sampled a few Bloody Marys, too - perfectly spicy and a delight on a cold winter day.
The staff are great - friendly and welcoming and clearly utterly into making sure Dragon Bar earns a reputation as a greta choice for lunch or dinner in Hastings.
I've been back since and it was just a lovely as the first time. I'll definitely return.

Having recently moved to the area we discovered the Dragon Bar on their Pizza & Pint night. Really great food and value for money.
A few days later whilst out walking the dog, we got caught in torrential rain and stopped in here for lunch. They are dog friendly and we had the afternoon menu. Again great good and value for money.
Absolutely will be back again and again.

We would have been happy with a pizza, but they weren't doing any. We found it difficult to choose anything off the blackboard. Opted for a slow cooked meat dish that was poor quality meat, and very little you would want to swallow. What a dismal place.

Although not packed, the wait, once our order was given, was over 45 minutes, even having had to stand at the bar like a lemon waiting, without lip service to a small apology from the guy preparing drinks for another customer. A little thought- about 'customer service', wouldn't go amiss. Even when the food was brought to the table, there was no apology, or reason given, for the long delay. It seemed there was no urgency in service from any of the guys running the bar, who had a sedate attitude - no hurry there! Had I been with my husband, they'd have coughed over the dust! However, the food was nice; mine was tapas, so how long can that take?! The cook must have nipped over to Spain for it. The bottle of rosé prosecco was pricey at £28. And have to agree with other reviewers about noise, since we were assailed by 3 guys nearby with their unbelievably elephantine trumpeting noise, overwhelming other customers' conversations, but perhaps the staff thought it added to 'the atmosphere'. No, it doesn't. It stops you returning with nil recommendations to friends.

Absolutely amazing food! We are not vegan but the vegan nut roast looked so inviting we both had it. It came with roast potatoes, roast parsnip, carrots, braised red cabbage and apple sauce. The best nut roast I have ever tasted. So good we asked for the recipe! Hats off to the chef. Great vibe and friendly welcoming staff. Definitely the place to go in Hastings.

Incredibly slow service and when it arrived it was disappointing. The sea food tagiatelli was over cooked, drowned in a tomato sauce with a distinct lack of sea food. The burger was very average and the pizza took an hour to arrive.

I’ve used this place on and off over the last 5 years , it’s still a great bar , good vibe but not quite what it was. COVID maybe … change of ownership……service friendly but chaotic, the food offering has been downgraded in choice and sophistication. and delivery.
Burgers which I’d remembered as a highlight are now reduced to something you might settle for at one in the morning from a van , basically a cold floury bun with a slice of cheese and a grey burger not seasoned. The frozen chips were however hot a crisp . A limp looking garnish with too much dressing completed the offering ,we however did not.
I would still recommend the bar and hopefully they will soon restore their good range of draft beers, and lagers and I really hope they soon return to their previous higher standards. Come on guys sort it out . I would really like to come back .

Revisited the Dragon Bar yesterday after quite an absence. Enjoyed the Katsu Curry with perfect rice, skate wing which was fresh and succulent and my fussy daughter finished off a fantastic baked egg and prosciutto pizza. Excellent!

We had lunch here by chance on a short trip. We were blown away by the food. We weren't expecting too much as the lunch specials were only £9 but it was top notch. We had fish and chips and a burger, all cooked to perfection. The best burger I've had, even though I'm usually paying upwards of £15 for one in a pub these days. The staff were very friendly and they had a great soundtrack playing. Just a good, relaxing experience all round.

Right on the Main Street of Old Town, we loved this spot for drinks, light bites, main meals and people watching. Service was friendly, music good and prices were excellent. The food came out piping hot and delicious. Highly recommend and we will be back.

Been really looking forward to trying this place. Ordered a roast belly pork, fat hadn’t been rendered and potatoes under cooked. Pizza dough raw & the steak tasted old and soaked in oil.
Chef came out and argued until we physically showed him how poor it was.
Never going back!!
