We had an excellent dinner in the Landgate about 5 years ago and on a return visit to Rye we decided to book and see if it was still as good. The short answer is Yes. The food was delicious. The onion and cider soup was absolutely divine and the scallop tapas amazing. My husband had the lamb which was... More

We walked in and thought the place was a bit stark and arrival was cold but that is all I can fault. After that it was excellent, the scallops were some of the best we've ever had! Scallop in cuttlefish ravioli was amazing with local cod and lemon sole was brilliant! Service was great as well! The interior was too... More

Wonderful mise-en-bouche of asparagus soup and home-made bread roll, followed by scallops, two small plaice fillets with pressed cucumber, champagne sorbet, roast lamb selection, lemon tart and berries. A superb meal and great value. Excellent service and clear explanation before each course. Thoroughly recommended even though little choice. Nothing to find fault with.

A cosy little bistro, small but not overcrowded with a friendly welcome. The food was excellent, we had scallops and lamb bresaola to start and the cod and duck for main courses. The duck was particularly good - the breast nicely pink and the rest crispy and very tasty. The lower end of the wine list is expensive for average... More

I just loved this place. A special spot for a special occasion. The food was glorious - locally sourced high-quality ingredients presented very thoughtfully, with an unusual twist. I loved my lamb prosciutto with crispy burford brown egg - outstanding. Main course was glorious local cod with chickpeas and scallop ravioli, served in the most delicious sauce with unctuous crispy... More

First of able, they gave us a table next to the emergency exit, not very peasant for a romantic dinner, specially having booked a table two weeks ago... We mentioned to the waiter, who seemed to be the manager that one of us was allergic to seafood and he replied with a nasty face and very bad manners, " OK,... More

The reception at the Landgate Bistro was very smart and friendly. We had told them were celebrating our recent engagement so they had some champagne waiting for us and a lovely table for two by the window. We were very much looked after as the staff are very attentive. We had duck, lemon sole, squid and scallops and they were... More

We had read such glowing reviews on here but the reality was underwhelming for me. To be fair it is a matter of personal choice and my husband enjoyed his experience but me less so. My onion soup had wonderful flavour but had no body, my Marsh Lamb three ways ranged from excellent for the loin to overwhelming flavour and... More

My girlfriend booked a table at the Landgate for my birthday on Friday evening. From beginning to end, we had a delightful experience. I had the scallop starter which was a real taste of the sea. My gf had the cuttlefish risotto and she said it was the best she had ever had and ended up wiping her plate clean... More

Really good food & service & not too expensive. Would defiantly recommend a visit. You must book in advance as gets busy!
