Was visiting Rye with my wife and decided, late on the day of the England v Scotland European Championship match, to see if we could get into the Cinque Ports Arms to watch the match. The landlady was very accommodating and just fitted us in. During the match the staff, which basically seemed to be the landlady, landlord and other members of the family, worked really hard to keep people supplied with drinks. The staff several times walked around making sure everyone was comfortable and, to cap it all, supplied each table with a complementary box of sausages and chips! We were made to feel very welcome; we're not from Rye but if we were, I'd certainly be returning to this pub. Shame about the match!

My wife and I popped in for a Sunday lunch after arriving by rail with an hour to kill before we could check into our hotel. The Cinque Ports is conveniently located, a very short walk from the station. After an initial double take from the lady who seated us (possibly due to my bright blue hair!) we were shown to a seat and tended to well. No complaints about the atmosphere, which was mostly locals having quiet conversation and a few people dining. The decor is nice with posters from various decades advertising different products/events. No theme other than posters! But it works, and gives the place character. Our Sunday roast was OK, nothing to write home about. I had beef which was nice and I must commend the kitchen on having a great variety of vegetables on the plate. You're going to get your five-a-day. But the potatoes were cold, I guess it was 1:40pm and coming towards the end of service. The best thing about the food was the parsnips which were really lovely. My wife's turkey was dry and they'd put beef gravy on it in the kitchen which was a shame. Might be worth another try when they're not towards the end of service. Certainly didn't pay over the odds, the plates were stacked full of food and the drinks were fine. Service was friendly and the pub is comfortable.

If you look at all my reviews I have never wrote a bad word, and wouldn’t usually bother too as I’m quite easy going but I’m so shocked at the service I’ve received in this pub. Firstly, I’ve come in with my friend and our babies. I’ve asked if they have high chairs by the lady behind the bar who told me they were outside. I went outside and there wasn’t any there so the girl outside told me to go and ask at the bar as she didn’t have a clue as there not kept outside (polite enough though). I explained I’d asked already and she come back with them. No big issue but felt a bit fobbed off but that’s that. Went to the bar to order the food, lady was lovely enough. I believe it was the landlord though that kept coming next to me at the food ordering point to get sauces out there basket they have on the counter (it’s a small hatch so you’ll know what I mean if you visit). He was touching shoulders with me which I would have preferred he didn’t or even asked me to move out the way considering we’re in a pandemic?! Again No massive deal and I wouldn’t have said anything. Food come, it was okay but my friend ordered the specials chicken. It was a roast chicken but the amount of oil that dropped off the skin and it tasted quite funny. She couldn’t eat it. We didn’t complain, the young lad come over and asked if everything was ok with the food. We replied yes to this but can we return the chicken as it’s really oily and she can’t eat it. He said ok and walked off. Wasn’t even going to make a fuss of it as we had walked round a while and we were just happy to get a drink. Anyway a few moments later the gentleman who doesn’t understand social distancing come over. Didn’t apologise etc but said straight away ‘I heard you don’t like the chicken?’ My friend explained that it was really quite oily for her to eat but she doesn’t want to make a thing out of it we didn’t even come to the bar to complain it was only cause the waiter asked. He then proceeded to tell us there is nothing wrong with the food and the kitchen staff feel that way too. Again we explained well that’s fine but we won’t eat it that way. He then told us the way we dealt with it wasn’t treat. We were shocked and asked why. He told us we said the food was f***ing disgusting send it away. We were literally speechless! We were here with two young babies. We couldn’t even believe what he said. We told him we would never ever speak that way to anyone especially in front of kids. He then said we’ll just take the money back then and walked off. I honestly couldn’t believe my ears. He didn’t bring the money back and we left flabbergasted I didn’t even want to ask for it back. Never again will I visit the pub. I’ve read a few reviews on here and I’m guessing it’s the landlord from other people’s comments.

We visited cambersands for the day and everything around there was shut so headed into Rye and stumbled across this place. We were so happy we went in as Jeremy, the owner was so welcoming and kind to our children and us. Our kids are 4 and 2 and he made them some beans on toast with sausages which wasn’t on the menu, and went above and beyond to make us all feel comfortable. Right at the end my son was being cheeky at the bar and he let him come in and then gave him and my other son a free pack of mini cheddars each. He really was such a lovely man and we wouldn’t hesitate to come back if we are in the area again. Thank you!

Went for lunch today, have been before and really like the pub, like a local used to be. Sadly very few left in our neck of the woods. Food always good, but today hubby's fish pie one of best he's ever had, and we are very well travelled! Two main meals and bottle of wine just under£35 can't fault quality for the price, can only recommend

We were extremely disappointed with our Sunday roast today. For £13 per serving, the quality and portion size was awful. I ordered a beef roast and it arrived on a desert plate about 8 inches in diameter, not even a child size portion! There were 3 tiny slices of beef, 3 tiny spuds about an inch square 3 sprouts, a few carrots and a desert spoon of peas! I requested horseradish sauce and was told they didn't have any! I rejected the meal and In fairness, when I complained and asked for a refund, they agreed with no argument.

After 3 hours driving we stopped in Rye - all 15 of us looking for breakfast. We came across this lovely place and we were not disappointed. The staff were all lovely and so helpful . The food arrived quickly and was really good value for money. If you are in Rye go and pay them a visit - you will not regret it

Fantastic place to start a day off in Rye. Fantastic all day breakfasts for the 4 of us with bacon cooked my preferred “non crispy”way (not to everyone’s taste I know!!) We were accompanied by Eddie the cocker spaniel who got even more special treatment than we did with Ooh’s and Aah’s on arrival and a doggy treat before leaving. Ed was the star of the show. If you like a “Good old English pub”, then visit here. All management & staff will make you feel very welcome. Go for it!, Thank you all.

We always make sure we go to this pub when we are on holiday in the area. We had homemade lasagna 1 with chips and the other with garlic bread and a kids burger in a bun with chips our son. Our 4 year old son couldn't eat all of his burger and chips, so they put it in a takeaway box for us to take home, they also gave him a free apple juice and some sweets. Staff a very friendly and pleasant. Fully recommend.

Popped in for lunch on a visit to Rye, met by 2 cheerful ladies behind the bar. Ordered food and lunch, a hot pot from the specials board and a scampi and chips basket. My wife devoured her hotpot and said it was one of the nicest things she had ever eaten, and certainly would recommend

We were boiling hot and grateful to find shade in the garden and a seat. Excellent pint of Hurlimans, but the food was a little basic, and the bar a little crowded for covid times whilst trying to get served. All in all pretty average, though cheapish. nicer pubs in the area. Whitbait look.tasted like from frozen, other meals were sausage in roll, fish fingers in a roll etc.

I was here on Saturday afternoon with my family of 5 adults and our 2 year old niece and there couldn't have been a more amenable place! An area is set out more like a cafe and there was a highchair and a carrot (which really pleased our spaniel!). Four lots of fish & hips were all excellent, as was the children's All Day Breakfast! Great beer and, for me, great coffee! The staff are very friendly, understanding, and attentive. If you prefer, there's a fabulous real fire in the bar area and the whole place is warm with character and joy!

On a weeks holiday in Rye we found this pub on our first day and thank goodness we did. Jeremy and Ruth are fabulous hosts who can’t do enough for you. Our son Jack took a shine to Jeremy who was very kind to him and paid him lots of attention even when the pub was very busy. Even our dog Mocha was treated well with dog treats and tickles. The breakfasts were lovely and tasty and served in the back beer garden. Mocha got her own complimentary bowl of sausages. Colin and the ladies who served us breakfast were lovely too hence we have been there most days since arriving in Rye. Totally recommend Cinque Ports make sure you pay it a visit.

Text: We visited one evening whilst exploring Rye and were so pleased we did. There was a warm welcome from the landlord and the customers were friendly. We visited again the next day for a home cooked Sunday lunch in front of a log fire. A good example of the great British pub and a good place for traveller's to rest.
