Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a difference this time around, our waitress was bubbly and helpful. We both had the blue cheese burger which was really yummy, plenty of black garlic mayo and the burger was moist and juicy and the Cajun fries were hot and spicy. Thank you...for the excellent service, we will be backMore

Having stopped in Bourton on the Water and thought I would grab something to eat to save sorting something out later that evening. Having a quick scan on Tripadvisor I thought I would give Smiths a try. Entering I was given a choice of table...so opted for one by the window to watch the world go by! I ordered the Smiths Classic Burger, Truffle and Parmesan Fries and thought I would give the Limoncello Spritz a try. Some reviews on here say that there is a wait for the food to arrive and yes there is and to me that is a good thing. If you have to wait it means that the food you have ordered is cooked freshly for you. The burger was well cooked and flavoursome with just the right amount of extras inside to make it something easy to pick up and eat. The truffle and parmesan fries again were very flavoursome. The Limoncello Spritz has a bold claim on the menu in saying that they make Limoncello better than the Italians but to me personally Sorrento Limoncello is superior but Smiths Spritz is still very drinkable. Family run and friendly had a nice conversation with Seb about other places locally to visit and with mum (sorry I didn’t catch your name) about how they came to Bourton and the history of the tea room to burger restaurant change. Yes there is a service charge, yes the mention it when paying and ask if that is ok. To me yes that is fine. Visit other restaurants (not cafes or fast food) and you’ll find that they also charge a service charge. Maybe it should be printed on the menu, maybe it shouldn’t. Everyone has their own opinion. Would I go back again? Would I go with friends? The answer to both of these questions is……. Yes without a doubt!More

A log fire, warm welcome, delicious cocktails and dog-friendly - lots of boxes ticked even before the food arrived - which was simply excellent. The burgers are just brilliant and the truffle and Parmesan fries are out of this world. Throw in a relaxed atmosphere...and service that’s both efficient and friendly and frankly, if you’re staying in Bourton, this place is a must.More

We visited early on a Saturday evening and it was busy already. Good idea to pre-book. Friendly staff, comfortable surroundings. Good selection of drinks, although the cocktails are a little pricey at £12 a go. The burgers, though, just wow!! I doubled up because...well I'm...greedy and only an extra £2. Chips are extra, but very good, as are the dirty 'tata tots'. Don't go if you're on a diet.More

Arriving on a cold and wet October evening we found the small, cosy and rustic dining room had a pleasant romantic atmosphere with stone flooring and candle light tables. The menu focuses on burgers each with quirky/fancy names and ingredients at £14 each. Several sides...including fries (£4) were extra. The food was very tasty and more than met our expectations. With only 4 tables occupied we noted our server was not as attentive as she should have been.More

Booked an early evening dinner but had to wait 55 minutes for the food to arrive. Sadly it wasn’t worth the wait. Burger was over cooked dry and tasteless. The much anticipated truffle chips were nothing more than bog standard covered with mayo. Service was...nothing special. Would not recommend. Of all the restaurants we used in Bourton this was without doubt the worst.More

Boys, you’ve smashed it yet again! Decided to come for a lunch time treat after spending a day round the Cotswolds and knowing that the menu had changed we had to go and sample 3 burgers! We had the blue burger the pimento and the...hot chicken burger. INCREDIBLE! the meat was seasoned beautifully, the toppings were so well thought of and we can’t wait to try the next 3 for our next visit. Both servers were brilliant, attentive but not invasive and the new cider/perry was the perfect accompaniment. Thankyou so much!More

Took 45 mins from order to serving 2 burgers, which came without any cutlery - we ordered slaw. The chips, tots and burgers were inedible - very very salty. Sadly we had to leave half of the food in the table. The burgers were dry...and partly burned - overall a very poor experience. Can’t comment on the others’ food - but they also waited for over 30 mins.More

We had the most divine burgers and sides here! We popped in for lunch as we had read some good reviews about this place. The staff was friendly, efficient and the food was delicious. The burgers were some of the best we've had yet and...our collective favourite was the side of taters with chimichurri with brisket. The food was so good that I think we might have overeaten For those who want delicious burgers in the Cotswolds, this place is a must try. The restaurant also had a unique decorative aesthetic and was child friendly. Overall we were happy with the experience and would definitely recommend it.More

My family enjoyed eating and drinking here so much we came back the second night! The whole staff was lovely. Very friendly and fun. The burgers were perfect and the truffle fries are to die for! We we have moved on in our travels around...the UK but Smith’s has come up every day since and we find ourselves comparing other places to them and saying “it’s good but not as good as Smith’s was!” Thank you everyone from the American Sloan family, and thank you for the dance battle I had with your server! Great memories!More

Bourton on the Water has become a really busy tourist magnet with the cafes on the paths by the river overwhelmed with visitors. I was about to give up and flee elsewhere to find a decent restaurant when I came across Smiths situated at the...end of a narrow alley behind the main riverside path. It had a pretty little outdoor area with a few tables, we chose one with potted plants and a bench. The place was busy enough but not overly. The coffee was great and a large bottle of tap water arrived on request. We ordered two Nashville style chicken burgers. They arrived at the right time. They were coated in delicious ‘hottish’ marinade, a little crispy with lip smacking sauce. The semi brioche was just right-not too sweet. The lettuce was good quality and the chips salty and crispy. It was reasonably priced deliciousness in a lovely setting with friendly service. Good music too. Well done lads!More

Our table was booked for 6.30pm on a Friday evening and was already reasonably busy. We had our dog with us but there was enough space between tables for him to sit/lie down. Really lovely meal and service was faultless. Great cocktails burgers and brownies,...nice waiting staff and atmosphere.More

There was a dog in there - he was given his own water bowl. They are very tolerant of dogs.
