We dropped in here for early dinner when our planned option of Thai food at two other nearby establishments were unfortunately not available (one was full, the other closed on Monday evenings). The real ale selection was not quite as good as last time, and we both found the fish rather tasteless, served with a few too many chips. We left feeling a bit disappointed and not overly enthusiastic about a return visit.

We weren’t sure if we were quite ready for a meal out after 5 months of home- cooking, but I’m so glad we chose here. Everything is outdoor (apart from the loo). You can order/ collect drinks from different hatches. Food can also be ordered and brought to the table in handy disposable packages with cutlery, etc. All in all.... great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Tasty burgers. Would definitely recommend this place if you’re on the fence about eating out in restaurants again!

We drove down to Cheltenham from Birmingham to spend a Sunday afternoon. We had a little pup with us so we Googled dog friendly restaurants and happened to stumble across The Swan. We rang them and were politely informed that they were VERY dog friendly, that no reservations were required and that they didn’t do a Sunday roast. That suited us just fine. When we got there, we ordered the fish koliwada pakora, the kurkuri bhindi okra, the samosa chaat, the murg makhani butter chicken curry and the goat meat curry. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection. The butter chicken was just a tad sweeter than we would have preferred but, to be fair, it is meant to be a sweeter dish and the kids absolutely loved it. The okra and the samosa chaat were the best we’ve ever tasted anywhere in the U.K. Most restaurants in Birmingham masquerade as Indian but are actually managed and run by Bangladeshis and this is very evident from the taste of the food they serve. When it comes to authenticity, The Swan is as authentically Indian as they come. The only minor negative we could possibly find (if we wanted to be absolutely brutal) was the fact that the only beer they serve are local brews. Other than that, the food was divine and the service was outstanding and we will definitely be driving down to Cheltenham again just to pay them another visit.

Booked meal for 4 on Saturday at 8. We had been in for a drink previously and enjoyed. Small menu but that’s not a problem if food quality is good. So why only 2 stars 1. Love dogs but not sitting on the table. Not very hygienic 2. Despite booking and small menu food took 55 minutes to arrive. 3. When it did arrive, one dish (squash, sage and quinoa stew) was cold. Two of us had burgers that were really dry and overcooked Would have given one star but we’re offered a free drink for poor service. Wouldn’t eat here again under any circumstances but would go in for a drink.

I love a chicken curry, but didn't think this was very good value. It was chicken thighs, not breast meat, at over 10 pounds for a main that is much more than you would pay in most Indian restaurants, and didn't include any rice or naan. The thigh meat, although served off the bone, was quite gristly. Would be good to see more options on the menu, like chicken breast, or some non Indian options.

We had heard good reports about this so-called Street curry food (at restaurant prices) The okra was excellent👍🏻 £5.45 The lamb cutlets were just okay(A little dry) £7.95 The chickpea Chaat was delicious £6.45 The lamb sag curry was a small portion £8.45 The sea bream was not very nice (very earthy) £16.95 2x Rice@ £2.95=££5.90 2x Chapati @£2.25=£4.50 £55.65 + drinks Total £80. Had mentioned to a staff member but didn’t seem to care Or do anything about it. Will NOT be returning. We are regulars to the Railway pub & The Vine which do excellent food & always have a good atmosphere.

This has always been my favourite pub in Cheltenham until now. The Indian street food is a great addition and the service has always been good but there is a new member of staff who could do with an attitude adjustment. I understand there are rules that need to be observed during a pandemic, but it’s how you communicate them that’s the art of good customer service. Unfortunately this lady was either having a bad day or doesn’t like her job or doesn’t really like people. I’d go back for the food and beer garden but I suggest management or the owners provide some additional training and manners on customer service etiquette.

Visited for the first time since before lockdown and was absolutely bowled over by the fantastic curry, the great beer and the really great service. I would go as far as to say it's one of the best goat curry's I've ever had anywhere. The portion sizes were very generous and the price was very reasonable. The Swan clearly employs a really first rate chef, as well as very courteous and helpful bar/serving staff. I will definitely be returning, regularly!

A friend and I went here for Sunday lunch. It was a hot sunny day and we were able to sit in a shady spot in the garden. The staff were all friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered the vegan option & a beef plate came out, but this was soon resolved and we were given a complimentary drink for the inconvenience. The mushroom pie was very tasty as were the organic vegetables. My friend enjoyed her chicken roast too. The portion was large and sadly I didn’t have room for dessert.

Our first Sunday roast since living in England and it was such a disappointment The chicken was very tough. My beef was chewy and undercooked and very fatty and I couldn't even cut it with my knife. The carrots were rock hard. No flavor. And the plate was far too full and not very appetizing. Roast potatoes were hard and not roasted at all! A very bad wasted £65 for a family meal out sadly. Yorkshire tastes more like a muffin!

Great service and nice food, but we are too fussy for chicken on a bone in a curry, which we didn’t know till we were there. Recommend for non fussy eaters, but if you’re particular, I’d recommend going elsewhere if you are looking for chicken curry. It’s very authentic over traditional, so don’t expect the usual chicken tikka madras. I’d recommend the paneer curry, the masala chips and poppadoms.

Very Welcoming, Dog Friendly,Great Food and Good Food Came here on a sunny Saturday afternoon was quiet and chilled atmosphere and great as it was dog friendly, initially told the kitchen was closed but opened back at 5 so we had a beer went gor a walk and came back later and we were very glad we did… Good selection on beers on tap particularly ales. Moving on to the food which quite literally the star of the show…. Full of flavour and great selection of Indian street food fare aswell as curries… We had a some of the smaller plates including Pani Puri, Momos, Tandoori Prawns and Samosa Chaat all which were all excellent tasty not overly spicy but packed a punch of flavours. For a pub to pull off that food well done as it is some of the best Indian food I have had and will be returning next time we visit Cheltenham.

The food here is pretty good, I've had sunday lunches as well as light lunches and snacks. The atmosphere is often a bit weird in this pub, not necessarily in a bad way, but not necessarily in a good way, either, just in a weird way. Otherwise a pretty pleasant boozer, if a bit nondescript, worth a pop in for a pint and to soak up some of the weird vibes.

The Swan is a fantastic pub with a regularly updated range of beers and real ales. The food is always incredible too...serving delicious Indian food throughout the week and roasts on a Sunday. They've recently started doing Bloody Mary's on a Sunday too and they are AWESOME!! Special shout out to the staff too who always go above and beyond!

A traditional looking stone built pub surrounded by several other decent hostelries, this is a good size internally extending back some considerable way from the front including a conservatory at the rear. The menu consisted of Indian Street food, and my Dilli Murg Lucknowi comprising of minced lamb curry with pieces of chicken and topped with a boiled egg was a decent and tasty dish and I had it with Basmati rice and a naan braed. The menu was a little unusual in that all the chicken options appeared to be on the bone rather than breast. The one I chose didn’t specifically mention that so I was hoping that it wasn’t on the bone, but it was. Also rather unusual was the whole Dilli Pani Puri to start which were dough balls filled with potato and chickpeas to which you poured in a mixture of tamarind sauce and aromatic water and then ate whole. We also had some Samosas to start, and these came with a very tasty curry sauce. All in all, a lovely pub and decent food.
