About
Suffolk Rock is one of the newer restaurants in Cheltenham, but is the product of many years of experience in the industry. We wanted to bring something new to Cheltenham, while keeping links with known and trusted suppliers, putting local and organically sourced ingredients together to create clean, honest food. A trip to Portugal led to the inspiration behind the steak on the rock. You can cook it exactly to your liking, at the table, making for a fun and innovative dining experience. There are plenty of other options; fish, meat and vegetables, all using seasonal and fresh produce. Come and see us Wednesday-Saturday for dinner, or pop in on a Sunday for a roast almost as good as home!

I never usually write reviews, but this place is one of the best places I’ve been to! The atmosphere is romantic and relaxing, I would seriously recommend everything that they have to offer! Their food too is on another level from fish dishes to meat dishes for a reasonable price too.

The roast was unreal! I'm incredibly fussy with roast potatoes and I'm always disappointed as nowhere ever seems to be able to produce anything crispy or fluffy but I'm terribly embarrassed that they were better than my own which I'm slightly fuming about. The meat was cooked to perfection! The veg was sublime and not just the bog standard fair and the Yorkshire pudding (again, fuming) was way better than my own! We were very generously offered more of anything we wanted upon arrival of the meal, which was a lovely gesture, but this was unnecessary as everything was in abundance. The only thing that was missing for me was crackling but everything else was to such a high standard it didn't matter. I also had the tempura monkfish to start which was to die for. Staff are clearly trained to a very high standard, service was perfect, and the chef is obviously very talented! Wine was very nice and there was a good verity of beer for the other half to choose from. Sparkling, still or tap water was offered on arrival which was a nice touch and I was impressed it was only £2.50. Everything was great value for the quality! Thank you!

We ate at Suffolk Rock when they were trialling elements of their new menu. Majority of the table wanted to try the Beef Wellington which was incredible *props to the chef*, some had the chicken dish which was also VERY well received - every plate was fully cleaned.
We all also tried their pudding selection which was exemplary, The crumble was incredible, the Suffolk mess and Chocolate mousse were not only beautifully presented but all received high praise, so much so that we were engrossed in our own food and forgot to talk to those around us at the table.
Staff were amazing and the atmosphere was very good, well worth the price paid for tasty and well sourced ingredients (also had 20% off the whole bill on Wednesday evenings which was a very welcome surprise - would have been more than happy to pay full price).
11/10, will be returning and will be bringing more friends to share the experience with.

Really lovely Sunday lunch - generous portions and all very tasty. However, being told ‘time is up’ after 2 hours or so rather sours the experience. We would have liked to have some more wine and relax but it rather felt like pudding spoon down and off you go which was a shame. I understand you have to turn tables but with a big table and mains taking about 30 mins, it was a bit of a downer to be hurried out. I’ve been here before on a weekday evening and it was as much more chill so hope today was an exception.

We have been here in the past but food has gone downhill. Sunday lunch -Tempura monkfish 3 pieces but one had sinew so was very unpleasant . Roast pork was the size of a postage stamp and looks prepackaged, not cooked on the premise. Meal incredibly salty as was the duck leg. Cauliflower was hard:. Service was terrible. Our drinks order was forgotten about, then when reminded forgotten again. Request for bill was ignored for half an hour. To add insult to injury a 10% service charge is added.. Not likely to return

Can't ask for more from this place. Service lovely and helpful. Food was what you asked for the lobster starter was a star on its own and then the steaks turned up.
If you are in Cheltenham please try this place. Also I've heard Sunday lunch is a try so will be back for that

One of the most disappointing meals I've ever experienced. We arrived to a wobbly table with chipped painted chairs. The loos downstairs smelt of damp. When we ordered our drinks the very young waitress had no idea what a larger was. She then brought drinks over and proceeded to spill one on my husband. No apology. He had to ask for some tissues to wipe his clothes. We had 1 starter which was nice enough but very meagre for £11.50 - 3 very small pieces of monkfish. The 3 fillet steaks on hot stones were a nice cut but unseasoned and tasteless. 2 lots of fries were late arriving and had to be sent back at they were raw. Even after they returned back to us they were unedible. So a family of 4, one child, one driver and only 2 drinks per adult, 1 starter, no dessert - nearly £250. Just not worth it at all. We won't be back.

Visited with family to celebrate a birthday. The food was very good, chosen from a well balanced menu, I particularly enjoyed the swordfish, a rare treat. They were short staffed on front of house but they kept their heads and provided excellent service even though they had a full house. Definitely recommend.

Went with the family for the Christmas Day booking and was blown away with the quality of her food. Chef would prepare anything the kids wanted (which they loved) and the 5-course menu was as good as you will find anywhere. Service was the usual top quality and would highly recommend

Outstanding!!
There was only one thing to be sad about after visiting Suffolk Rock! It is that it was the last, rather than the first place we visited on our trip to Cheltenham. Had it been the first we would have been back every night.
Every component of our meal was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely and staff attentive and informed about the food.
If we ever come to Cheltenham again, we will be back to this little hidden gem!.

Have eaten here before and it was really lovely (Monkfish Tempura was excellent).
Today however, we have had a very poor experience because of the attitude of the waiter and we definitely will not be bringing our business back as a result.
Positives:
Starters were very nice. Could have been a bit warmer, but we still enjoyed them.
Negatives:
Main meal was over salted, scorching hot in the middle and cold around the outside. I tried to eat it, but it really was awful. The pork was supposed to come with crispy crackling (which was why we chose it), but the plate was so drenched in gravy, it was soggy from the start.
The waitress was lovely when I told her and apologised as she took my full plate away.
A few minutes later the male waiter or supervisor came over and said he believed there had been a problem. He said, the waitress had told him but the food had gone into the bin before he had the time to 'check'. Not sure what he was checking, but he seemed to take my complaint personally.
He proceeded to tell me they'd done almost 100 covers and I was the only one who had complained. He then went on to say that he'd decided to refund my whole meal because it was the end of a really good day and he didn't want it 'spoiled'. We told him we didn't want that, just my meal refunded. He refused to listen.
He was begrudging, rude, pompous and totally unprofessional. He took my very polite feedback completely personally and tried to make us feel awkward and embarrassed.
Every place has an off day and we have had really good meals in here before. So had the service been professional and had we been treated with respect, we absolutely would have returned, but after yesterday's experience, it is a firm NEVER.

Wow. What a wonderful little restaurant. Charming decor, settings, people, and a good menu. Everything ordered was delicious.
We had Scallops and Monkfish to start.
This was followed by steaks, (sirloin and fillet) and chicken.
My own steak was served with a garlic sauce which was perfect.
The Monkfish Tempura was delightful.
The French Pinot Noir on the wine list was delicious and suited the food perfectly.
Love it! Thank you very much. Yumm!

Excellent Sunday roast and other dishes. Small menu and all excellent. Scallops starter was really delicious. Decent wine. Restaurant was busy on Easter Sunday but staff were excellent and attentive to our family including fast and yummy meal for our son (including ice cream)

Max helped me plan a party for 50 people at Suffolk Rock. Nothing was too much trouble, communication was great throughout the build up and I felt very reassured that the night was going to go well. And it did! Max, Dan (head chef) and their team absolutely fantastic! I had so many party goers come up to me to comment on how amazing the food was and how professional and service focussed the team were. If you’re looking for a small and exclusive party venue Max is your guy! I should also add we’ve eaten here many times, and all of the above applies. Amazing food, brilliant service, great atmosphere!

I do a lot of searching to find the best place for food and service when we go to a new town.....this place was absolutely fabulous! It was jam packed in there towards the tail end of sunday afternoon session but nevertheless the service was AMAZING.....the food (roast beef sunday lunch) was fantastic - knockout food! The man running the service was really impressive - had his eye on everything...he was was working really hard and was keeping the youngsters working really hard too. I do hope the young staff appreciate the experience they are getting working in this fab restaurant and are suitably rewarded. Well done you lot - if only everyone could do it as brilliantly X
