Contemporary dining room serving modern take on classic Indian cuisine, including a tasting menu. It is a unique culinary creation from local ingredients and takes inspiration from its Indian heritage.
MICHELIN Guide: Good cooking
A smart, stylish restaurant with smooth service from a welcoming team; start with a drink in the first floor lounge. Dishes are inspired by classic Indian flavours and textures but are presented in a deconstructed, eye-catching modern manner. The charming owner adds to the experience.

Simply the best experience! We were incredibly fortunate to get a booking as we randomly stopped looking for a menu knowing nothing about Prithvi. Took pity I think on the two drowned rats before them and had a table for that evening and we are both so happy they did! Staff were first rate! Everyone treated us as if we were the most important people in the world! The food….. the food! We weren’t sure what to have and my wife (picky veggie) was intrigued by the 5 course taster menu, we decided as it was an occasion we’d go all in with the 7 course. Just Wow! It wasn’t cheap (I’ve spent less on a family pub meal but…) I would recommend anyone pondering to do it! Every course was amazing! We had all vegetarian but I had the lamb main. At one point we both looked at each other I said how my whole mouth was alive! My wife felt the same! Every taste bud was alive, absolutely looking for the next sensation coming!

A wonderful evening out at Prithvi. We have been on a number of occasions and it always delivers with delicious food, atmosphere and service. It is an expensive night out but Jay and the team always look after you extremely well and the food is always fresh and full of flavour. We love trying new dishes and this has to be the best Indian Fine Dining in Cheltenham!

My partner and I went for her birthday meal as a treat and had a really excellent time. We chose the a la carte menus as I could still have all the same dishes as the 5 course set menu (minus only the veloute), but my partner really wanted to try some of the dishes which were only on the a la carte menus. We were asi glad we did as we both thought the duck for starter and the halibut for mains, which aren’t on the set menu, were the best dishes. But generally all the food was really good, service was wonderful and the restaurant had a lovely ambience (you get none of the road noise which you may expect from its location) and it has been finished to a really high quality.

Wow!! This place is such an unexpected treasure. When you consider dining here, throw away all your preconceptions of Indian restaurants. Prithvi is very different. We dined here, early evening. Before arriving, we had already decided to eat off their 7-course "tasting" menu and we were not disappointed. This really should be called a 10-course tasting menu, with the selection of "snacks" that arrived first. The great beauty of this place is that not only are the portion sizes small enough to justify 10 courses, but the pronounced Asian/Indian/curry flavours are incredibly well woven into each dish. You can taste the spice. You can taste the curry. Unlike high street curry houses where the chilli heat of a dish can dominate, the dishes at Prithvi are delicate, refined, and flavourful, without requiring you to grab the nearest glass of iced water! Our snacks included crispy choux pastry, beef tartare, and charcoal bamboo! And if that wasn't intriguing enough, the gentle combinations of spice and smoke and salty caviar are just extraordinary. Even the onion seed milk loaf (with biryani spiced goats' butter) got me thinking. There was a background taste that I couldn't put my finger on. It was pleasant and unusual at the same time, and it reminded me of childhood medicine, But wow, it was great! The Chettinad Cauliflower (with black garlic, tamarind, puffed potatoes) was another absolute treat! The crispy puffed potatoes on top, covered a beautifully soft cauliflower puree, which had a stunning spicy, lemony taste. A brilliant combination! We enjoyed a bottle of Salemi Pinot Gris from New Zealand, which paired well with all the dishes leading up to the Cornbury park Venison (roast loin, aloo keema bhuna, smoked beetroot, blackberry), with which we enjoyed a fruity but full-ish bodied Italian Sangiovese. The Pineapple Sorbet (coriander, chaat masala, basmati rice) probably had the greatest contrast of flavours (pineapple and coriander) but it was very refreshing and you could still enjoy the individual flavours; separately and mixed. Prithvi is not your standard Indian restaurant; the range of dishes and the pricing will clearly show that. So, its somewhere to go for a treat (if you have either of the tasting menus) or more regularly if you choose to eat off their a la carte menu.

This was our fourth visit and as before maintained the superb high standard we’d previously enjoyed. The dining room itself is beautifully decorated in sumptuous rich dark teal and gold, with perfect mood lighting (unlike the stark bright lighting of some other restaurants making them feel like a canteen!). The staff without exception are professional, efficient and friendly. We were a table of 6 and chose the 7-course taster menu. The food is sublime, the understated description of a ‘selection of snacks’ were a series of 3 separate flavour and texture explosions. Subsequent courses continued to please in the same way. We would all highly recommend this experience, and look forward to our next visit when in Cheltenham again.

Prithvi is one of Cheltenham’s finest restaurants and deservedly so. From the warm welcome through a charming and beautiful restaurant, the time spent at Prithvi is to cherish. The service is attentive, skilled, friendly and just right. I say this as in some restaurants you can feel overwhelmed and pestered . We went for the a la cart menu, the tasting menu, of five or seven courses, has to be for all of you; obviously for serving . What I wasn’t expecting was five extra treats / courses with our meal. These were both beautiful and delicious. The star was the sourdough pillows with cod’s roe presented on coral. I think this meal was quite wonderful, possibly in my top ten dining experiences. You can keep your underwater flashy Dubai restaurants and soulless dining spaces ( so the dining experience is pure) . Prithvi has everything plus an excellent wine list. We shall definitely be returning soon. Well done Prithvi

Prithvi is simply an incredible experience. The decoration and atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and welcoming. The excellent quality of the food and its very creative presentation, together with tasteful crockery and glassware, always surprise and delight even the most demanding palates. Exquisite dishes across all Menus: a la carte, sample menu or tasting options. And all of it is encompassed by an impeccable service provided by all members of staff, without exception.

Another exquisite lunch at Prithvi. The lunch menu is exceptional value considering the bread and amuse bouches at the start and end are included, not only that the standard of service and quality of food are on another level. The wines and cocktails are also perfection, with the sommelier on hand for great advice and pairings. As a critical foodie and amateur home cook I could never replicate such excellence in terms of taste and standard of presentation. Often I eat out and am disappointed realising I can do better at home. Not here - this place is really special and I recommend it 100%. I also love the fact that the setting is delightful and the seating really comfortable. Thank you Jay and his team. We can’t wait to return.

An absolutely incredible meal with my husband last night - we haven’t been in a year but the food gets better every time we visit. As a vegetarian you can tell when a restaurant has a fantastic team as they put as much effort into the meat free meal as they do the meat versions (my husband had the carnivore version). We had the 7 course tasting menu which was incredible value for money and everything so tasty. My husband also had the wine pairing and their sommelier is fantastic and genuinely every wine was perfect. My husband and I have had the pleasure of eating at some of then best hotels and restaurants in the UK and abroad and genuinely I think this is one of the best fine dining restaurants we’ve been to - I’d put it on par with Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons (though very different in taste!) for my favourite meals - and that’s a 2* Michelin. I don’t know why Privithi hasn’t got a a star yet. Could not recommend more highly.

We booked dinner at Prithvi for a special family occasion; it was a complete delight from beginning to end. Our table was in a beautifully presented dining area, with just the right level of lighting from the very stylish ceiling and wall illuminators. The tasting menu was our choice, and we were ably assisted in the selection of wine, deciding on a Riesling and an Agiorgitiko which complemented the subtle spiciness of the courses extremely well. Our favourites were the scallops and the venison, both of which were firm in texture and perfectly prepared. But every part of the meal was delightful with wonderful flavours and tastes. The service was attentive but discreet; we were told about each dish as it was served and more information was freely forthcoming if we asked. Best of all was the good humour with which every part of our meal was presented and explained. It was expensive but we knew it would be, and for our special occasion it fitted the bill perfectly. We had a wonderful evening of good food, good wine and good conversation, and we won't hesitate to return when the opportunity arises.

We were celebrating our respective birthdays and chose the 7 course taster menu - this was superb and we couldn't decide which course was our favourite as they were all delicious. The staff made us feel very welcome and ensured we enjoyed our meal. Being given the little gift box with a birthday cake inside as we settled our bill was very thoughtful and delicious. Excellent wine list and drinks menu.

Popped in on spec to see if there was room for two for lunch. There was - just. We had the lunch menu with a G&T plus a bottle of Riesling. The amuse bouches kept on coming, all of them amazing, especially the doughnut and the charcoal biscuit box filled with a smooth savoury cream. My cauliflower velouté starter was fabulous and the duck main just perfect. I understand that the ox cheek starter was also lovely. We had a rice and an aubergine side then I went onto lemon meringue and blueberry ice cream and my companion to the cheese. The food here has been consistently exquisite for years. JM Socials now has many more restaurants in Cheltenham so one has difficulty, though delight, in getting around them all but Prithvi is very definitely the flagship.

Well what can I say about this restaurant.. Wow is where I'll start. Everything from the decor, the setting, the food and staff was exquisite. We went for the 7 course taster menu and it didn't disappoint. We complimented our food with some chilled champagne. Our glasses were never empty, the staff were extremely attentive and made sure we were constantly topped up with a drink. There was no rushing, no pressure and each course just kept getting better and better. We were there for 3 hours and in most cases you'd have been fed up but we loved every minute of it. To top a fantastic night of outstanding food and service the restaurant were trying to call us a taxi to take us back to our hotel (which was only half a mile away but because of the weather and my inappropriate shoes for walking 😅) all taxis were busy so one of the staff who I believe might have been the manager/boss? gave us a lift in his own car and refused to take any fee. What a lovely thing to do and really cemented the most fabulous evening. Will definitely return one day!

Not been for a while, We had the 5 course taster menu, which was a joy, fantastic food combinations. The spices were subtle but built up to a lovely heat. The food was so light, things that looked stodgy was like eating featherweight food. I dont know how they got the bread so light and airy. I dont normally like puddings but the strawberry mascarpone was delicious, not too sweet either. Drinks on the expensive side like most restaurants of today. The only downside is the terrible jazzy music in the background - please change it!

We have always loved this restaurant since it first opened on Bath Rd but unfortunately had not had the opportunity to return since it moved to Park and then back to Bath Rd to its new refurbished locale. Firstly the interior is beautiful. Cosy, yet refined and luxurious, with plush seating and subtle lighting, slightly reminiscent of a gentleman’s club. It was my husband’s birthday and we had the lunch menu, which is amazing value considering the standard of the food. We were absolutely blown away by the food, it tasted exquisite and looked beautiful. We had complimentary amuse bouches and bread with a flavoured butter, all divine. Starters were also exceptional; I had trout and my husband had an onctueux potato and truffle layer. The mains and desserts followed and they were equally faultless. In addition my husband was treated to a birthday plate with a beautifully written ‘Happy Birthday’ with truffles and macarons. The wine was very nice and the service was excellent. It was lovely to see Jay again. Thank you Prithvi for such a phenomenal and memorable lunch and we look forward to coming again soon. This is the best restaurant in Cheltenham.
