We visited for a birthday meal originally intending to go for the tasting menu. Instead we went for the a la carte. Everything was beautifully cooked and well presented. All three of us had the scallops. Stunning. Two then had the venison and one had the Thali. Again everyone was delighted with their food. Desserts included the trio of chocolate and a chocolate martini with surprise macarons for the birthday girl. A fantastic meal. This restaurant will soon be turning people away as it deserves to be at capacity every night.

The flavours and quality of the food were amazing and plentiful too. A complimentary cocktail and amuse bouche were very welcome with a little bit of Asian twist to them and we were treated to a surprise treat as we had noted it was our anniversary when booking. Although a couple of choices were not available this did not spoil our evening in any way. We will be returning again without a doubt and telling our friends about this wonderful dining experience which was certainly not expensive for the quality of food served. We came away feeling that we had found somewhere very special. Thank you!

This restaurant was a wonderful find for excellent food from an excellent assorted brasserie menu in a friendly and welcoming setting. The relaxed atmosphere and smart interior are far beyond what you would expect from the curbside and this is coupled with attentive but not over fussy service with little treats from the chef around our meal. Overall this restaurant delightfully surprised on all fronts and proved a hidden gem and a great way to spend the evening. To top it off too, it was all at a very reasonable price point given the quality and portions of food! Visit whilst it's still a hidden gem as I expect this spot to get busier as the word spreads!

The whole experience from start to finish was shambolic. 5 waiting/bar staff for about 26 covers should be a breeze but not a single server had ANY waitering skills. They all looked confused and/or panicked, constantly bumping into each other and dropping things. A lot of pacing around but not actually doing anything to tend to customers. No observation or initiative as to what needed to happen. It almost became comedic except with mains at around £26 and starters over £10 (the menu was not the same as the menu on their web site) you expect a certain competency. The main issues for us were failing to clear finished plates and dead drinks glasses, not being able to answer questions about the menu, bringing us the wrong tables food, failure to check in with us to make sure everything was OK or if we needed anything else, then towards the end trying to remove wine glasses that still had wine in them. They also forgot to bring us dessert menus but this was a bit of a relief. When it comes to the place, some bits have been decorated and other bits are under renovation. It feels wierd and the toilets are unpleasant for the price bracket. Then what kind of restaurant even is it? The name is French, the menu has a couple of French things on it but then there are east Asian dumplings and south Asian style dishes too?!?!? So to the food. What we had was good and well cooked. Portion size good too. Our food arrived in a fairly reasonable time but others were less fortunate. Other tables had wait times of over an hour between starters and mains. Incorrect dishes were delivered to other tables. Drinks orders for some forgotten. Two other couples by us formally complained and the whole restaurant had a strained, discontented atmosphere. In summary our evening was awkward, frustrating, stressful by the end and we were dying to get out to avoid any more f*ck ups. The number of 5* reviews seems mystifying based on our experience.

Thought about leaving a review immediately, but decided to sleep on it, but now we are just confused with the experience. Firstly, on arrival, the place feels unfinished. By itself, that isn’t an issue because we’ve been to ‘posher’ looking places that look the part, but the food didn’t match. However, men’s toilets that feel like a shed, and having to go outside, was just bizarre. Drinks were ordered. No problem. Throughout the night, we were not offered more. In fact, wine glasses were taken before the wine was finished. Food orders were taken. Questions about what the ‘terrine of the day’ was, and whether there was cream in the truffle mash, were both answered with ‘I don’t know’. We don’t mind someone having to ask, but the chap went and made drinks for someone before coming back to us. Amuse bouches were served, which were fine. Strange for food to be served on a big bowl of ice but not the strangest thing we’ve ever seen. Starters came. All good, but took 20 minutes for plates to be taken. In fact, only two of the four got taken (the chap went and made drinks again) and we had to ask someone to clear the rest. At this point, we were noticing other tables also complaining a lot. Two other couples were complaining, and one couple outright upped and left without any food. Main courses came and again, food was good. But just took so long. Two of our meals came a while before the other two. Again, awkward. We had been there two and a quarter hours and didn’t want to risk ordering dessert and being there another hour. That’s a shame because the food was probably good enough to want more, but service not up to scratch. Overall, we think there were 4-5 people working like headless chickens but still everything was slow. Very confusing. We want to, and like to, support up and coming restaurants but in a highly competitive selection of Cheltenham restaurants, the food stacks up ok if the restaurant decides what it wants to be, but as an overall experience, it would be difficult to recommend a second visit. Looking at the number of 4-5 star reviews on here, it may suggest a bad night as a one off, but we can only review what we experienced.

Lovely friendly people & excellent food but service was quite bizarre…. Language barrier made it very difficult to communicate with staff Staff also seemed confused between themselves with plates of food being carried round looking for a home. Waitress asked for our food order without having offered us a drink & drinks were v slow to come. Ordered a steak but not asked how we wanted it cooked. Received a starter we hadn’t ordered. Main course was very slow to come & although we had allowed 1.5 hours for a 2 course meal we were late leaving for the theatre (& there were only 3 tables occupied when we arrived). Such potential here & food was perfect but they really need to get organised & sort out the service!

We booked in here for an evening meal with high hopes, however things quickly went wrong. The waiter, although very pleasant, could not answer simple questions about the menu and had to refer to the chef. We then asked about the house wine which wasn't French in a French restaurant! We ordered a bottle of French Pinot Noir at a price of £32. The waiter brought the wine for us to taste and as he was pouring I noticed it was from New Zealand. I asked to see the bottle and it was a bottle of Oyster Bay from the supermarket. When we highlighted this he went off and came back with another bottle of supermarket Rioja. Whilst I have nothing against both wines, indeed I've enjoyed them at home, I wasn't willing to pay £32 for them. It was clear that something was amiss so we decided to cut our losses and leave. Later on we popped into the supermarket across the road and found the wine there.

web site confusing over opening times so I rang, booked a table for five for lunch. I confirmed by email to which the restaurant replied saying they were looking forward to greeting us. When we got there it was closed!! No reply to our telephone call. We therefore had to find another restaurant to celebrate a friends birthday!! When I contacted the restaurant by email later that day they eventually responded by merely saying sorry for the inconvenience and giving me there new opening times. As if I would book again!!! The restaurant frontage also looked quite dirty which makes one wonder what about the areas of the premises that you cannot see. There are many other restaurants in Cheltenham centre so we suggest you leave this one alone.

We had an annoying experience. We wanted an early supper after visiting the races and chose this restaurant on the strength of good reviews and good value with a preset menu or 20% off the a La carte. We looked at the menu again in the window before we went in, it looked great. But after sitting down we were given the ‘race menu’, with every item 30-50% more expensive, and told the set menu and menu in the window weren’t available. That’s misleading at best (and I’m not sure if it’s even illegal?). The man on the next table complained as well. To be fair, the food was good, but it took 1 hr 20 mins to get our main course. We did get 20% off, but off the inflated prices so still more than the menu in the window. Feeling misled spoiled the evening.

We had a fantastic meal at La Petite Brasserie for our anniversary where we ordered the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was delicious and in generous portions for a tasting menu, and the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Even though it took some time to eat our way through all of the courses (which also included amuses bouches and petit fours) we were never rushed. The atmosphere was relaxed and the setting is lovely. We will definitely be back!

This had been sent to the restaurant both by email and messanger with no response. We had the tasting menu last night (May 4th) at 6pm. It was the only thing that we could book when booking online. It was therefore strange to see all other diners having a normal menu. The seafood and meat dishes were really lovely, although we did think the beef and venison tasted very similar (and photos show they looked similar) The canapés, puddings, cheese and wine were unexceptional. There were two major problems. One, I’d said before booking that we were attending a concert starting at 9 at the town hall and would obviously need to leave about 8.45. You advised me that we would be finished in time to attend the concert (our main reason for coming to Cheltenham). Yet we had to chase (we accept you were busy but that was not our fault) and the last 3 courses arrived after 8.30 and were thrown at us out of order. Of course we had no time to eat them properly and no coffee. Second, we had the wine pairing. We assumed there would be wine with most if not all courses. When we ordered we were not advised what we would get. After the first one we got no explanation as to what they were. And 4 tiny glasses of wine was we think exceptionally bad value at £25 per head. Service was either good or poor. The wine has already been discussed but there was a general lack of attention after the start. We had no water or wine on the table after the second meat course, with some significant gaps between courses, and at some stages cutlery arrived well after the food. It was not what we were expecting. We live in St Ives, Cornwall, and our daughter is a part-time waitress in a Michelin standard restaurant so we know what good and bad service is like. We paid in full as we needed to get out of there quickly at quarter to 9. We almost missed the start of the concert and suffered from indigestion from having to rush there. We do not normally spend this much per head eating out and were expecting the meal to be better than it was. We have had tasting menus before and sadly the experience yesterday did match them. We had wanted to get a response before posting on here but we are left with no option.

This is an absolute gem in Cheltenham, and the best dining experience we have had in years. We dined here twice in 3 days it was so good, and on both occasions the staff were warm, friendly and informative about the food, and as for the food... well, it was exceptionally good! On both nights we had the set menu (up until 7pm) and had 2 courses plus a half bottle of wine each for £29. I think there was a 3 course option too but we were too full up! The food was beautifully presented and the flavours all complimented each other perfectly. As well as the courses we ordered, we were served various amuse bouche as well, and again, the quality was outstanding. We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. If you are anywhere near Cheltenham, or need an excuse to visit, you have to dine at la petite brasserie. Enjoy!

We visited La Petite Brasserie as we are always keen to try out new places in Cheltenham. Unfortunately, this isn't one which we'll be returning to. The main factor here is how poor the service was, there didn't seem to be one member of staff who was taking the lead or knew what they were doing, just 3/4 waiting staff wandering around not really doing anything. Compounding this with the fact that it took about 30 mins to take a drinks order and not far off an hour to get our drinks and starters made for a frustrating experience. Having to go out of the restaurant to go to the toilet isn't brilliant, this may have changed now, however. The food was average, nothing special, one of us had the steak which was very close to being blue (having ordered Medium Rare). There were some very strange extra dishes brought throughout the meal, 2 or 3 from memory, which didn't serve to add to the experience, more so added to the confusion and disjointed nature of the restaurant - a recommendation to the restaurant, don't worry about trying to be fine dining and serving extras if you can't get the basics of service right first. We could see other couples / diners having a similar experience to us with slow service and the odd incorrect order. Overall the experience was really poor, given the standard of restaurant in Cheltenham, I hope La Petite Brasserie ups its game.

How this shambles of a restaurant has a 4.5 rating baffles me. Waiting staff were completely out of there depth and unprofessional. We were given a table next to the toilets that was badly decorated, smelled of damp and was cold. The menu was full of spelling errors and with paper amendments glued over the original text.Scallop startes were served cold, smoked haddock soufflé had no snaked haddock in it. We had to wait 40 minutes for the second course. The main courses of trio of lamb were brought to the table and the lamb cutlets were 70% fat with quite literally no heat in them, no rendering of the fat, cold plates, they were inedible. We sent them back to be cooked further, they were brought back 10 minutes later with no further cooking of the lamb, it was still not cooked at all, the only change was the plate was hot. Two fillet steaks were brought at the same time and again were very undercooked, two of our party were restaraunters and couldn’t believe how poor the food and service was. Visit here at your peril

This is a truly amazing restaurant. The service was friendly and attentive and the food delicious, and full of surprises. We had the early menu - two or three courses, which included a half bottle of wine each, and was excellent value. The cuisine is an interesting mix of French with an Asian influence, all tasting divine and well presented. We will certainly be visiting again.
