We have just returned from a delicious lunch, shared with a few friends, to celebrate my wife's upcoming 70th birthday. The dishes served were all interesting in content (some very unusual combinations!) and first rate in taste! We will certainly return!!

The food was outstanding and the service attentive and personal. Each course was cooked to perfection with interesting flavours and beautiful presentation. I changed the time of my booking on the day and the host was so accommodating and pleasant. We had a lovely evening...thank you all.More

A lovely Lunch at Purslane. But why does this restaurant need lo have a loud speaker. Especially as there is not any soft furnishings to absorb the noise. It would be great if restaurants could have speaker free tables.

Absolutely delighted with our visit. The dishes were first rate. I would like to particularly mention the Scallops starter which were Devine. There was one very experienced server and two others. I feel the service can improve with experience. Overall would highly recommend

We opted for the three course menu, starters was the scallop, it was a taste sensation. We could have gone home happy at that point but then the halibut main was divine. We then topped it off with the chocolate and prune dessert, delicious! Throughout...the meal the service was efficient, but our star was Liam, he was quietly funny but unobtrusive. What a fabulous restaurant and if we return to Cheltenham our first booking would be to Purslane.More

Friday evening. Great service for someone Coeliac/gluten free. I had notified them in advance and they created me my own menu. It had most of the same items as the normal menu but at least we didn't have to have the "can you make this...but without the gluten, is that gluten free? " etc. etc. discussion. They had done all of that in advance so just gave me the options that were gluten free. They brought bread out and again I had my own basket with oil and vinegar rather than the butters. The amuse bouche was the same for both of us but mine was served in a shell rather than the pastry basket. Unfortunately for me, I do not eat meat and I thought it was a fish restaurant, so my choices were very limited for the main course as two were meat, and one fish dish had meat in that they said they couldn't cook without. I therefore only had one option, but it was very tasty. My dining companion felt it was a bit too fancy and mucked about with, but I enjoyed it. The starter we had was a very beautiful fish with tomato all finely cubed and a basil and cream sauce. Dessert was amazing, a chocolate "slice" with prunes, ice cream and toasted hazlenuts Three courses for two people with quite an expensive bottle of wine and 2 dessert wines came to £200.More

We ate here on Saturday early evening and had a delightful dining experience. Because of our dining time we were restricted to the 5 course taster menu which we knew on booking. We will be back after the menu changes for a later dining time...and the 7 course! Everything was quite delicious, from the snacks from the kitchen through to the petit fours. Allergies were dealt with effectively. We were asked to pick a favourite dish at the end, it was so hard as everything was wonderful, with wines paired to perfection. The service was also friendly and we felt very welcomed. We can’t wait to come back.More

We booked well in advance before visiting this restaurant and we’re anticipating an exceptional meal. The reality was something of a let down. The young staff were particularly charmless and forgetful - they seemed rather inexperienced and maybe Purslane is finding it difficult to recruit...better. There was no sense of a welcome and the atmosphere generally was somewhat bleak. The food was just about OK. The complimentary starter, impressively presented was totally lack lustre - bland and mostly tasteless. The a la carte starter was delicious and the desert equally enjoyable, but no better than that which one can obtain in many, less well reviewed restaurants. The main course of John Dorie was bad. The fish was overcooked and tepid, not helped by a flavourless sauce and uninteresting vegetables. Not a great experience ond one not to be repeated.More

A stab to the heart It's a real shame that customers still feel the need not bring up any grievances at the time of dining but are perfectly happy to go away and write derogatory comments about someone's hard work online as if they won't...More

Brilliant. Super restaurant, must be pushing star standard. Very good bread, lovely smoked haddock tartlet as amuse bouche. Several dishes match absolutely tiptop fresh fish with meat. Scallop perfectly cooked with a cube of shredded duck. Compels dishes, multiple elements. Very very good and highly...recommendedMore
