We had a great sharing starter and pasta dishes, it was so tasty and great portions. The staff were lovely and very hospitable. They have reduced the number of tables for social distancing and the waiters are wearing masks. We felt very comfortable and had an enjoyable experience.

Gianni's used to be a favourite but we were very disappointed a couple of years ago.
What a change! We went on Valentines Day as we couldn’t get into our first choices.
The owner and a fresh new interior greeted us. We were very well looked after in the room upsatairs, which had also had a make over.
The menu featured proper Italian cuisine. I am a fan of fish and had a seafood salad that had lots of seafood as a starter. It was delicious. Rolled fillets of seabass followed with a large dish of freshly cooked vegetables. Never had seabass rolled like that before, it was excellent. My partner, not often a fish person, had the same and raved about it! There was a good choice of sweets to follow....not that we had much room! He was also impressed by the wine list.
We were so pleased we went back. An excellent meal for a very reasonable price.

On our first visit to Cheltenham for my birthday meal we chose this restaurant from Tripadviser, we weren’t disappointed at all, really friendly waiter, great food, I had Stuffed mushrooms followed by Veal in a cream and mushroom sauce and my oh had calamari followed by Veal Saltimbocca each dish was well flavoured and really lovely. Wine served by the Carafe or bottle reasonably priced as was whole meal. Couldnt have picked a better place for my birthday meal. Thank you Giannis, we will be back.

I used to go to this restaurant years ago and considered it to be the best authentic Italian restaurant in Cheltenham.
We were first of all served by a scruffy indifferent, impatient waiter who walked off while we were deciding what to order for my granddaugher.
I had penne with a creamy tomato sauce which was mediocre and could just have easily been made at home with a packet of pasta and a jar of sauce.
What a shame and, judging by the reviews, the management have a very arrogant attitude towards their cusomers' complaints. It seems we are all wrong!

Waiters run around like headless chickens creating a stressful atmosphere. Obvious mistakes were made as I saw several dishes being returned to the kitchen. Food distinctly average.

I have been visiting Cheltenham for a couple of days and have had a few issues finding suitable places to eat during COVID-19. The big chains are all shut but luckily I came across Gianni ristorante and thank goodness I did. As a solo diner I was made to feel very welcome and at ease and as it was a warm evening I was able to sit outside. However the inside was fully booked ( with COVID measures in place of course). My waiter Mario was very pleasant and attentive and all staff were wearing masks. I had a beautiful meal- a glass of house red, spaghetti marinara and tiramisu. All were delicious and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this lovely authentic Italian restaurant for quality of food, service, friendliness and ambience. Thank you. X

My wife and I have been regulars for many years but our last visit was way back on 3rd March and in the meantime we have certainly missed eating in this traditional Italian restaurant.
So our first meal out in 6 mths had to be to Gianni's, we were met by Mario and Vito and made to feel very welcome.
Oh how nice to be able to enjoy fine Italian fare again.
We felt safe in the restaurant despite it being full even on a Thursday without the benefit of the government scheme [this says something very positive about the whole experience of Gianni's].
So we award Gianni's top marks for food, service, ambiance, safety and value for money.
We enjoyed it so much we booked another table for the following week whilst we were eating!!!!.........Can't wait.

We had a delicious evening meal at Gianni on our recent 2 night break to the Cotswolds - in fact it was so good, we decided to return the next night! Having been to many an Italian restaurant, being Italian ourselves, it’s rare to find a genuine Italian restaurant with an Italian (Sicilian) chef serving authentic Italian food. They even served an Italian liqueur that we have never managed to find in any Italian restaurant. The menu is varied - something for everyone- and we could have happily returned every night for a week to sample the different dishes. Well worth a visit or two! Thank you Gianni and the team.

Pre-booked a lunchtime treat for a birthday celebration. We were greeted with a warm smile and asked where we would like to sit.
Menus arrived quickly and drinks order delivered soon after with lots of choice of both alcoholic and soft drinks.
The food never disappoints and side dishes of vegetables are always broad and varied. Garlic bread delicious.
Mario is a wonderfully friendly host, and the waiters very professional.
'Bravo' to the chef and assistants for making our lunch so enjoyable all round.
Can't wait to return soon.

Fabulous experience. First time visiting spontaneously on a Friday night. Restaurant was busy but the atmosphere was just great. Food arrived quickly, we had 3 courses all brilliant the best home made Italian food ever experienced in Cheltenham. Our server was lovely and welcoming. Huge portions all fresh and so delicious. We will definitely return. Grazie!

I alway think this place can’t get better but last night. Wow! Had the mussels in tomato and wine sauce with a bread basket and the caprese salad, followed by the fillet steak with blue cheese sauce and the chicken in mushroom and asparagus sauce. Both dishes cooked to perfection. Chicken was still moist and the sauce was great and my fillet steak was perfectly rare! We order puddings and drinks also and it was just the most perfect evening. for dates and family this is my favourite place to go to food is amazing service is good and prices are reasonable
Staff do tend to stare which is a little intimidating and off putting when your trying to eat but apart from that it’s a lovely restaurant.
Was let down once as I recommended to my friends we went and decided not to eat here but we had bought a drink whilst looking at the menu we were told we had no choice but to buy a main dish and that there is a bar next door which is rude
The whole place had 2 tables so not sure why they cared about us sitting and having a drink.
I’m hoping this was just one unlucky visit and we will be returning in the future.

Booked for 2 people, seated immediately upon arrival with a warm welcome.
Menus arrived with no pressure to order quickly, so drinks were served whilst we mulled over the extensive menu with lots of vegetarian options too.
Great to see Gin Mare on the drinks menu - what a treat.
Bruschetta starter was amazing, infused oil dressing with subtle basil flavour.
Chicken Valdostana is my go to, and once you've tasted this, you'll be hard pressed to choose anything else. The chicken is cooked to perfection with parma ham on top, all accompanied by the best sauce I've ever tasted - honestly.
The service is top notch, friendly and offer great advice if you're undecided on choice.
This is our first on list for Italian restaurants in Gloucestershire, not just Cheltenham. If you haven't ever visited, you're missing out!!
Thank you Giannis again and again for superb food, service and ambiance. Can't wait to see you again soon.

Short notice booking for a Saturday evening. We were told a table was available but only for 2 hours. As we had been unable to book a table in several other restaurants we were happy to be able to get this table. As it turned out, we only needed it for 1hr and 40 minutes anyway. At no point did we feel pressured to have our food finished.
The service was excellent, the food hot and delicious and the ambiance just right.
Drink ordered and delivered quickly, we ordered our starters.
Starters were just garlic bread. These were a little different from typical Italian garlic bread, but we ate them and enjoyed them.
For main course we ordered a pasta dish, a steak dish and two chicken dishes. All served hot and delicious. My daughters steak was cooked to perfection (medium) and the veg accompaniment to the chicken and steak dishes were tasty and hot also.
Cost for 2 courses + drinks for 4 people + tip was £90.
Great meal, great service, lovely restaurant. Honestly, if we lived closer, we’d be back here regularly.

Absolutely fantastic evening. My partner and I visited tonight for an anniversary meal and we cannot complain about anything.
The service was quick, we had a 3 course meal with coffees after and it was all within quick turnarounds of each other. The food was incredible and delicious, still piping hot which is rare in a lot of places.
The restaurant was busy, but the service was still authentic, attentive and professional. We’ve visited Italy before and the atmosphere was spot on to how the restaurants are over there.. the only downside was when we left and remembered we were in Cheltenham, and not Venice!
I could’ve easily had 10 glasses of Bellini.. they were absolutely perfect. We left very impressed with full stomachs. Perfect Saturday evening, thank you 😊
