These guys have just started offering delivery to a small radius of the restaurant - yum yum! We had a slight blip with the first delivery but amazing service and food second time around after giving some feedback. Crispy and hot throughout and the link with the local curry house, Rajdoot, is genius! Well worth the awards. Congratulations to the team.

It's been quite a while since our last visit - a house pilsner's been introduced in the meantime - but whatever their awards may say, they still serve excellent fish'n'chips, and our plaice in beer batter for a pre-theatre supper was as good as ever. Dan provides a friendly and relaxed, but very effective, service, and the atmosphere's enjoyable. I can see M&A + theatre becoming a regular fixture this year!

We walked in off the street intending to have fish and chips for an early Saturday evening meal, well what a surprise this place was. We were advised to sit upstairs as the small seating area downstairs had constant takeaway traffic. Upstairs was a decent size with its own cocktail bar. The menu not only had fish and more fish on it but pie and chips. Now these aren’t any ordinary pies, you could have Wild Boar with Chorizo, Venison with pearl onions, Beef and Ale besides other flavours, they all come in a wonderful crusty pastry with either mushy or garden peas, mash or double cooked chips and gravy to die for. I had Wild Boar and my husband had Beef and Ale, the meat in both was so tender. The meal, two beers and one red wine was very reasonably priced, the young man who served us was very friendly. We highly recommend the Malt and Anchor

We had been waiting to try this Fish and Chip Venue for sometime. What a disappointment , the food took 25 minutes to arrive ..I ordered Monk Fish salad the spring onions were whole and greasy cooked in oil and fish Luke warm at best. My partners fish and chip meal was served up cold, on sending the food back another plateful of cold food was presented to him... the waiter was pleasant and reduced our bill, however it was not a good experience and we will not revisit this establishment.

We were visiting the area staying in a local touring campsite. We googled 'best fish and chips' and the malt and anchor came up. Couldn't have been happier that they had an option to order on line for collection. The order was acknowledged and we were told it would be ready in 30 minutes, it even gives you a countdown to the time to collect. So my husband heads off, leaving me and 3 hungry kids tired and ready for dinner. When he got to the Malt and Anchor at the allocated time he was told 'its a big order, it'll be another 35 minutes'. We krdered 2 adult fish and chips, 2 kids meals (which they got wrong) a side and some sauce pots. I didnt think that was a particularly 'big order'! Frustratingly though when he did finally get our order, there wasn't even an acknowledged of a delay or a sorry for keeping him waiting. Now, it was, hands down the best fish and chips we have had. Just so disappointed with the service, this absolutely should have been a 5 star review!

Came here for Friday lunch. Felt clean and safe only a few tables so good social distancing. Food came out in good time very tasty however the chips were very dry and very very crispy which was disappointing thought it was quite expensive for 2 x fish and chips a coffee and lemonade.

Went here with my wife and kids after seeing it was award winning, very disappointed, poor service, very overpriced compared to the take away menu 50% more. £16 quid for regular fish and chips (fish was still small). Extra for beer batter, not worth it the light batter was alot better. Fish very overcooked and dry, chips and peas where ok and curry wasn't bad. £1 for bap and butter (70p on the menu). Onion rings where disgusting, 1 huge one was undercooked and 3 small hard overcooked then had argument when paying the bill, no apology just argued that we should have said earlier which we did, unfortunately the server didn't hear and tbh wasn't that interested, even when collecting the plates didnt ask if there was an issue with the uneaten onion rings. Also had dead fly in cocktail (£7) when pouring a new one, discovered that there where more flies in the bottle so I had to pick something else. Still paid full price for this. Not sure where the awards came from but certainly should not enter his onion rings in next years competition as I'm pretty sure they will come last, server could also work on his people skills. Will definitly not go back £60 quid for 2 meals and a couple of s@#t drinks, surprised he didn't charge extra for the flies.

Nowhere near enough consistency to justify the price. My cod was outstanding - tasty, perfectly cooked, not greasy, light batter. Unfortunately my wife’s cod (same portion size and description) was dry. Chips were over cooked and had a slight burnt taste. Scampi was really nice, but no different to the frozen breaded offering that comes from anywhere else for less money. Mushy peas with bacon were the star of the show. This was a takeaway delivery order. There was enough good here that we will try eating in the restaurant when it re-opens to see if the standard is higher, but for takeaway, we will stick with Seafare who do an excellent fish and chips.

I had long heard about this place and was delighted to have an excuse to try it to take to a friend who, having just come out of hospital following an accident and was longing for fish and chips. It could not have been more disappointing. 3 tiny portions of cod in albeit very good batter with moderate chips + two portions of ham hock mushy peas stacked up to almost £30. A mistake not to be made again!

We went along for a takeaway treat. I had small cod & chips meal. Didn't really feel like much of a treat though. The chips were very hard and crunchy and not very many at all. However as they weren't nice I only ate a few and threw the rest away. The fish was very small approximately the size of the palm of my hand. Whilst I did order a small cod I didn't expect it to be quite so small for £9.00 I enjoy eating quality food and don't mind paying a bit extra for something nice. This was not nice at all. Most of it went in the bin.

Unfortunately this was not as good as we thought it would be. You were only allowed to eat downstairs due to the current pandemic. There was around four tables for customers and to be frank the downstairs is a bit dilapidated through age, wear and tear. Not a pleasant environment to have a meal. I imagine in normal times the downstairs is used for people waiting for takeaways. Hence the three stars. This said the food was quite good. Not the best fish and chips I have had (that honour lives in Grimsby). Large pieces of fish and nicely cooked chips that did not taste too dry. The batter on the fish was really nice and crisp.

Ordered a large takeaway order (8 meals) and we were completely disappointed. Ordered over the phone for collection at 6.45pm, we were only staying a short distance away so should have been fine by the time we got home. When we opened our boxes at home, we couldn't understand how this restaurant had won the itv food and drink award for 2020. The chips were so hard you couldn't even put your fork in them! I understand they are triple cooked however these were definitely inedible (Most had no potato inside them). The fish was average at best, it was very overcooked. 1 star has been given as the scampi was nice, however that is the only positive we can give. After spending around £80 on this meal, we can honestly say we will not be returning and we will be glad to go back to our own local fish and chip shop next time (For half the price and decent chips).

Had cod bites & chips but really disappointing- literally just crispy fried batter and barely two mouthfuls of any fish- wished we’d ordered the cod as hopefully that would have been better. Chips were average but the mushy peas, tartare sauce & beer battered onion rings were nice. A shame as quite pricey for lunch and left all the batter on the boards Will maybe try again, but fish this time, next time in Ciren

It’s probably best to book, but the four of us were lucky enough to get a table when we wandered in on a Monday evening and were seated within a couple of minutes upstairs in what’s known as “Seventeen Black”. We sat at the back in a very comfortable sofa booth and from the start service was excellent and not too slow, based on an initial warning that several tables had arrived at once and therefore there could be a delay. The starters were all a hit including the Prawn and Calamari Combo, Battered Onion Rings, and plentiful Whitebait, all of which came with different and tasty dips. The Cod and chips is pretty much the signature dish and was really top drawer, as was the Scampi. The Sausage and Mash also comes as a Battered Sausage and chips option and the Wild Boar with Chorizo, mash, mushy peas, and gravy was amazing. The mushy peas perhaps lacked a little bit of flavour but that was a tiny quibble on a night of high quality food in a relaxed atmosphere. Finally the signs in both toilets are definitely worth a visit (sticking to your chosen gender obviously!)… but the men’s sign in no way reflects the quality of the food! :)

We had a great meal here on Monday (3 of us) but I wanted to praise the waitress as it was a very busy service from the second the restaurant opened. It became full very quickly and people still came in. The waitress not only took the time to explain the Covid practices that restaurants have to follow at the mo, and the wait times but she handled customers some of whom were quite rude really professionally and politely. Her service didn't falter once nor her cheeriness. Well done - I'm sorry I didn't get her name but she was a real credit to the business. The food was generous and delicious too!
