Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Quite a disappointing Sunday Lunch. The beef was difficult to cut and eat - as the main event it was not great. There were final "greens" so the whole dish looked a bit brown - more broccoli or green, rather then a bit of yellow...cabbage. The starter was salty and the dessert not very inspiring. We gave feedback, but the staff simply said sorry and nothing was offered. There seemed to be some large celebration/birthday bookings but I didn't see a single birthday offering from the pub - maybe I missed it. I was surprised, as I expected this to be really great. Parking, for the size of the place isn't great - may be removing the outdoor tables in the winter for parking might help.More

We were staying there and had a fantastic room, with lots of extra touches like fresh milk. The staff were so friendly. The evening meal and the breakfast were first class

Amazing food - the mackerel pate was off the scale good and the plaice was perfectly cooked with a beautiful accompanying sauce that was delicate yet full of flavour. Our friends were equally impressed. We eat here regularly and have never had a mediocre let...alone bad meal. Beautiful surroundings, attentive and informed staff and excellent vale for the price. Please don’t change anything (and keep the mackerel pate on the menu forever)!!More

Having booked tickets for a show at The Sub Rooms we then decided to make a break of it. The only hotel in town appears to be a functional hotel and we wanted something more homely, which is how we came upon The Bell, about...a mile from town it was ideally located. The rooms are above the pub with a separate entrance at the rear, our room was exceptionally comfortable and clean, it had everything we needed for an enjoyable break. The pub is very welcoming with a good selection of beers, breakfast is taken here with some great options, we didn't get the chance to try the lunch/dinner menu which gives us another reason to return one day. Mark and Sarah along with all the staff were very friendly and welcoming, we shall be checking in on The Sub Rooms site for other shows, should we come again we would definitely stay here.More

The staff friendly and welcoming. The food was 10/10. We both did not have one complaint. I had fish and chips and mushy Peas and he had lamb and veg and potatoes cooked to perfection.

Friendly welcome, great menu food prepared and presented to a very high standard. We had 3 excellent courses and a good selection of well priced wines. It’s high quality restaurant standard food, not pub grub. Service was prompt, friendly and helpful

Stayed overnight with dinner and breakfast the following morning. Lovely friendly welcome on arrival and a fabulously quirky room in the roof space. Dinner was delicious as was the accompanying beer and wine. The following morning and it would have been rude not to have...the full English. Another delicious meal and set us up for the day. Chef and Mrs Chef run a great pub/restaurant with rooms. Why stay in a boring modern box when there is somewhere like this to stay.More

The menu has a lot of choice. I had sea breem and my husband had lamb which were both excellent. The staff were very attentive. This is by far the best pub restaurant meal we have had (anywhere) in a long time. The value was...also excellent and the main dining room is lovely. We would highly recommend.More

We really enjoyed our stay here. The Dovecot Suite was lovely, really spacious, clean with thoughtful complimentary extras - particularly the fresh milk and period products (something I'm very passionate about there being general easy access to, so thank you!). Would absolutely recommend to anyone...looking for a stay in the area.More

Having stayed with a friend and experienced this restaurant on numerous occasions I was more than happy to stay there. (My friend had numerous relatives from abroad staying and was unable to accommodate me as well). I was happy to stay elsewhere and what a...good choice! Arrived circa 1900hrs on Thursday, my friends joined me for dinner at 2030hrs again a stunning dinner, then to bed. I then noticed in the comprehensive information provided in the room that they could arrange a Shiatsu Massage and/or reflexology . . .literally over the road . . . I went for both! OMG one of the most relaxing experiences I have ever had!More

This was our third visit, second to stay. The Bell Inn is a lovely place to stay and this time we had the Dovecote room with a separate lounge which was lovely and comfortable. Place was spotlessly clean and Sarah and Mark couldn't do enough...for us. Food was excellent, especially the roast beef and also really enjoyed Marks breakfasts. Dog friendly too and they are also well catered for with a sausage at Breakfast!More

After months of covid restrictions and other various little setbacks the family said their final farewells to my brother. It was a beautiful afternoon as we said goodbye just as he wanted, beside our family childhood home and the canal at Dudbridge. We followed this...this with afternoon tea at The Bell, where he used to go as a young spiv. Justyna and her team did him proud. We had a warm welcome, beautifully prepared and presented food including vegan and mindful of allergies. Such a lovely setting , gorgeous views, very comfortable venue...in fact a really really lovely afternoon . Just as Gerry would have wanted. Thank you sooo much all of you. xxxxMore
