Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Rumit and his father organised a super post wedding Indian lunch for us for about 60 people, in early September. We had the party out on the very comfortable and spacious deck - but could have been inside had the weather not been so good....We went for a food tasting a couple of months ahead, and they were so accommodating in making sure that everything we chose was made to our taste. They also went out of their way to provide the particular drinks we wanted - in this case jugs of virgin and bloody Mary's - which they would not normally do. (Their own jugs of lemonade though were delicious, and proved to be more popular on the day!) ..... The afternoon was a spectacular success: the food was plentiful, homemade and delicious; service great; and the atmosphere very relaxed. We can't thank them enough for making the last day of a very long and happy weekend, so much fun. Susan & Manoj KhoslaMore

This is a fantastic pub restaurant, My second visit I love the idea of the choice of a delicious curry or traditional Sunday roast on a Sunday. The atmosphere is really great and the staff superbly professional. Well worth the journey down the M5 from...Gloucester. Will be doing the journey again very soon !More

Absolutely stunning Sunday roast. The food was both plentiful and outstanding quality. My mother in law has a small appetite but enjoyed it so much that she cleared her plate! The owner served us and it was lovely to have that interaction with us. He...is rightly proud of his restaurant. Absolutely outstanding and we will definitely be back!More

Service ok but really disappointing food. Tasteless and overpriced. Quickly heated up frozen supermarket food as opposed to home cooking.

Ate there this evening and expected a pub curry but was really pleasantly surprised that we had a really tasty and flavoursome butter chicken and buhna. Sides were lovely too. Service was friendly and attentive. Had desert too even though we didn't need it. It...was nice and based on cornwall prices(where we live) it was not bad at all.More

We decided to venture out for dinner rather than dining at our hotel. We did a search for nearby restaurants and chose the White Horse based on reviews and availability. The menu offers pub type fare and Indian dishes. As soon as we enter the...aroma was intoxicating. One of our group was set on fish & chips but we ended up all ordering different curry dishes. Absolutely delicious! Staff was friendly and accommodating. Value was good. The only complaint was they don't sell jars of the best chutney I've ever had. Definitely recommendMore

Perhaps the worst valuefor money meal I've had. Went with my wife and two friends. Three of us ordered the game pie and the waitress returned to say only two were available. No problem and one of us swapped for fish and chips. The portion...of pie was tiny, and it seems that one portion had been split between two. If not, then still dreadful value. Two stars awarded as two meals were "alright" although no better than average. We left after the main meals and moved on elsewhere to finish off with puddings and more beer. If indeed, the chef had split the pie, why? We would happily accepted an alternative. As it was, we won't be returning, and our friends who lived close by won't be recommending it. The beer, Butcombe was acceptable, but only one available.More

Looking for a place to eat on our way home after a matinee at Bristol Hippodrome we discovered The White Horse. On the A38 just outside Thornbury and a hop, skip and a jump from the M5 it was ideally placed. The pub is warm...and welcoming, which was great on a cold March night. There is draft beer on tap from Butcombe Brewery of which we sampled a couple of excellent pints. The food is either a curry or more traditional pub fayre. My sister and I had the curry deal which includes a drink for £15.99. Absolutely delicious! With Bombay potatoes, fragrant rice and more mini popadums with mango chutney than you can shake a stick at. The butter chicken was tomatoey and tasty, I had the vegetarian special which was spicy and delicious. The parents opted for fish and chips - a big plate of fish with well cooked chips. The tartare sauce was a bit random, but other sauces were available. Plates were huge so we weren't able to sample the desserts which sounded delicious - chocolate pavlova nearly tempted me! The staff were really friendly and helpful and the toilets were very clean and well stocked. Definitely visit again!More

Came in for a working lunch, and were welcomed so well. Ordered from the the lunch menu and the main menu. Mixed grill and a chicken jalfrezi. What can I say, just simply sublime . I can still taste the flavours an hour later. The...staff are great, the food is fantastic and to boot there is a real warm, friendly feel to the place. Thank you so much. We’ll be back!More
