We’ve been to this pub/restaurant many times and not sure why we’ve never written a review because the staff are always so king and helpful, and food to a very good standard. This particular lunchtime was a chilly December day but we sat in a cosy beach hut with cushions and wall mounted heater, table service and a brilliant BBQ platter for £27 which we thought good value for money. Weather you want to sit in this comfortable, modern, cosy pub or choose one of the outdoor areas with heating if required this pub is highly recommended.

Brilliant afternoon visit for food and drinks with friends. We went for the 3 starter deal and can highly recommend the pork belly burnt ends. The under cover area is definitely worth booking and a great atmosphere. We ordered espresso martinis and they were lovely too. To add to this brilliant experience, my phone needed charging and Nikki the waitress was so helpful in doing so. Our servers Lucia & George were very welcoming and efficient. Overall great experience.

Coming away smiling from a great lunch at this restaurant today. The service was impeccable, I cannot remember all the names of the staff but Ethan and George were great! If you’re stuck on what to order ask one of the managers Ethan he recommended some great choices. The service was quick and the pub itself has a lot of character. It is all set up to accommodate customers during this pandemic with extra hand washing areas, and foot pedals at the sink.

Visited on a Saturday evening, was fairly busy and very noisy mainly due to a couple of large parties. Have eaten at this Brewhouse and Kitchen several times before and always been reasonable . We were a party of 6 and had to wait over 40 minutes for our food after being told about the multiple items on the menu not available. When it arrived my chicken was overcooked, the batter was hard and crispy and the fries were soggy and tepid. Small pot of tasteless coleslaw. Another of our party had a steak which was so well done it was like eating leather. Two of the party had fish and chips which was extremely greasy. None of the food was particularly hot almost as if it had been sitting around waiting to be served. We had desserts which were reasonable but didn't make up for the poor first course. Toilets weren't clean with overflowing water all over the floor. Altogether a very disappointing experience. Only positive thing was our waiter, he was cheery, pleasant and the only reason we tipped.

We had booked a table but we were told it was still an hour wait for food , we told the waitress one of the starters was a main course and we were told it would all arrive together but it didn’t so my daughter had to eat alone . We watched 1 hr 20 mins for food from time on our receipt . The food was really good and the waitress who sorted our puddings to come sooner than another hour was really helpful. We have eaten out a few times this summer and some places were far better organised .

Thanks for getting in touch regarding your visit- we appreciate that during Eat Out To Help Out, waiting times certainly proved to be a little longer and understand that this can cause disappointment. It seems the food was maybe an hour from when the starter went out- although a total miscommunication here on our parts. Thankyou again for your comments- they help us provide some good feedback to what we’re doing right/ wrong but we certainly hope that you give us another try again in the near future.

Went for a friends birthday. Sat outside, lovely weather and initially the drinks service was good. Went into the bar to order food, told the barman there were two orders for the same table, therefore expecting starters and mains to come out around the same time which was confirmed. Two starters of calamari arrived which were disgusting, the batter was greasy and so over cooked when you put your fork in it shot across the table! The calamari inside was rubbery and over cooked. The starters for the other three people in the group arrived approximately 40 minutes later. Again one of the three had calamari which again came out greasy and over cooked. After the starters were cleared it was approximately 30 minutes before three of us received our mains. The other two in the group waited approximately another 30 minutes before their main arrived. The grilled chicken burger (which we asked for no chipotle mayo) also came without the lettuce and beef tomato! Really poor service and wouldn’t recommend on a busy sunny day as it appears they may not have enough staff to manage the custom. If that is the case then bookings for meals should be staggered or declined!!!

I've been coming here since it opened and the beer and atmosphere is great. Here today first time since lockdown and sadly what a change, beer five stars, BUT, had to wait nearly an hour for our main course of food. I had gammon steak, eggs, chips, the chips were the only thing hot on the plate, the gammon and eggs were grossly overcooked. Didn't see the waiter to complain as they were understaffed. My wife had buttermilk chicken burger, shall I say it was very crispy and dry. Not impressed.

Was really looking forward to eating here, as we’d been here before and really liked the food! However on this occasion it was very disappointing. We decided to order a full roast chicken with 3 side dishes which came to £25 for both of us. When it arrived I noticed it wasn’t a full roast chicken, it was just portions of chicken which consisted of 3 legs (since when’s a chicken had 3 legs!) one wing with a little bit of side breast) One whole breast and part of a breast and wing was missing. I complained and they agreed to give us a breast replacement and let us keep the extra leg. Still seemed to be short on meat though and was a little cold. I would have preferred a full roast chicken just simply halved! Seemed like a very small chicken too. The side’s were good especially the macaroni cheese (could have done with more of that) Overall, it definitely didn’t seem like £25 worth of food. Staff were nice and it was a lovely place for a drink, craft ales were very nice!

I really hate to leave bad reviews, but we had a genuinely awful lunch here. We ordered 6 small plates to share. One of the plates arrived shortly after we ordered, the rest we had to wait an hour and 20 minutes for. When the rest of the food arrived, the cauliflower buffalo wings were almost inedible, the batatas bravas tasted like it had come from a packet and been heated and reheated in a microwave, and the king prawns were served with two slices of burnt bread !? The food was substandard and should never have been served. When we spoke to a waitress, she said something about the volume of food orders and the kitchen trying to catch up... maybe we were just unlucky and happened to go on an off day but I will never eat at Brewhouse again and would not recommend it to anyone

Thanks for getting in touch with regards to your experience with us on Sunday. It was a real off day for us as mentioned and hopefully for our normal reviews that shows. We’ve had a full debrief following Sunday and we’re working on how we can improve this going forward in all areas of the kitchen. We’re really sorry that you left us disappointed rather than having a great Sunday in our beautiful business. We really hope we do get the chance to see you again to put this right. Regards Matt

We visited as a group of four friends o. Saturday the 6th of August, the pub was quite busy with all the outside seating taken in the glorious weather, but the member of staff explained we were free to sit inside, which we did. There was a good number of staff on duty to deal with what was a very busy busy afternoon. Service was quick and well organised. The staff here are a real asset to the pub , all we’re very enthusiastic and engaging. I left feeling that I’d actually had an experience rather than a visit to a pub . The tapas dishes were most enjoyable and reasonably priced, especially the patatas bravas. It is certainly a place I would make a beeline for the next time I visit Portsmouth.

We visited the Southsea Brewhouse kitchen on Tuesday (our first pub visit since October) unplanned with no reservation but despite being busy, our family of 5 (2 adults 3 children) plus our new puppy were welcomed with open arms and big smiles. The garden was really well set up with great spacing between tables and very clean. It was clear the staff were working very hard to protect all their customers and each other. We ordered with ease from their Web page and our drinks came quickly followed shortly by delicious food. Our 3 children had the kids burgers and they all said they were the best burgers the had in forever followed by the most delicious doughnuts. Our server Daisy was amazing, so polite, sweet, attentive and professional, she even brought me a blanket as I looked cold, it was such a lovely touch to be made to feel so looked after. There was such a happy atmosphere and it was clear that it was credit to the staff. Thank you for such a lovely afternoon, we are looking forward to our next visit

One of the best pub gardens in Southsea. Lots of space and in the sunshine all day. Fish and chips were excellent - good quality fish in a lovely light and crispy batter. The waiter George was great and got us all the condiments we required. Drinks were great. Had the cask traditional IPA which is brewed at the pub. Met the brewers Joe and Oli who gave recommendations and let us try samples of their brewed beer. After sampling the “flaming cow” chilli chocolate milk stout I will definitely order one next time! Ordering and paying online is easy after scanning the QR code on the menu. Best thing is every menu item has a photo of it so you know exactly what you’re getting.

3 of us had dinner here on a Monday night - we loved that we could take our dogs and the restaurant was very mindful of accommodating various dogs scattered around the venue. I had gammon and chips for dinner (the gammon was over cooked but the chips were good). One of our party had the Buddha Bowl which she said was very good and the other had the pie which was good but would have benefitted from additional gravy. Overall a nice dinner out.

We visited while on a stop over for something to eat, first impressions were really good, it’s a very clean and welcoming atmosphere, the food was first class and their own beers were excellent. We were attended to by the lovely Grace who was very courteous and went through the different options on the menu and recommended be of their own brew bitters which was one of the best my partner has ever had (his words). We would highly recommend this place for food and drinks, and a huge thanks to Grace and the team !

The day started at 10am, with an induction, followed by coffee, then a bacon sandwich and the 1st beer. The brewing process was explained, by Oli (the head brewer) and Joe (the apprentice, who did most of the work) I sampled more beers during the morning and helped with the brewing. Lunch was included, with more beer. After lunch the wort was transferred to a boiling vessel for 1 hour and then to the fermentation tank. Throughout Oli & Joe were most informative and took time to answer questions and supplied more beer to sample. An excellent day, I thoroughly recommend it.
