Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fish was watery and tasteless, batter had no flavour, chips had more black bits than potato, fish cakes are store bought frozen ones and the curry sauce is like water. And to top it all off if you want to sit on the chairs outside...you get charged “restaurant” prices which is an extra £6. Horrible rubbish food even the dog wouldn’t touch it.More

I'm sorry, but I strongly disagree with the negative assessment provided in this review. As the business owner, I can say with confidence that this does not reflect the quality of our food or the overall experience at our restaurant. Our fish is always good...More

Food quality poor, chips were tasteless and the cod was wet. Probably the worst fish and chips we have ever had (and also probably the most expensive)

Great fish and chips, lovely fresh fish, good sized portion, reasonably priced. We ate in, and service was efficient too. Would recommend.

Had a haddock and chips with gravy which cost £12. For the price I don’t think it was worth it there are better takeaway options. The chips weren’t fresh and not done enough with barely any colour. The haddock was nice but very small. The...gravy was the best partMore

Brittannia provided excellent fish and chips for a large local birthday party. Both the quality of the food and the organisation/service could not have been bettered. Highly recommended

We have used Britannia Fish Bar many times and have always found the food to be very good. On a number of visits, however, we have been refused eat-in, even - on this occasion - when it was pouring with rain outside. The shop gave...every indication of eat-in being available, with lights on in the seating area and no signs to say take-away only. The reason given was (these days over-used) staff shortage. The refusal was polite but nonetheless disappointing for it to happen not for the first time. Their loss was Burger King's gain, unfortunately.More

I can honestly say I have never experienced such wonderful fish and chips ! We had Cod and Chips and Battered Sausage. Huge portion , we shared large chips. The chips were crisp golden and perfect , the cod was fresh and batter on both...light and puffy. Cooked and presented with care by friendly staff. A true reflection of what fish and chips should be.More

Lovely food and great service. Especially the batter on the fish and sausage was thin and crispy. On top of that the owner really cares about his product.

We found this place by accident on our way to the ferry port. So glad we did as the fish & chip experience was truly exceptional. The owner said it had taken him 17 years to get it this good and his attention to detail...shows in the results - light and crispy batter around the freshly fried fish, tasty chips. It’s so hard to find good fish and chips these days but Britannia is highly recommended.More

Was hankering for some fish and chips from a chippie near the water and found Britannia. Dinned in and got some cod and chips. Friendly service, well cooked fish with a great batter and chilled out atmosphere.

Came here on Coronation Day for a late lunch with my husband. Very well placed near to the entrance of Portsmouth Historic dockyard where we had visited. Absolutely delighted! First of all, beautiful cod, chips, peas and onion rings, all cooked perfectly. Lovely friendly staff...and quick service. On top of that it has 5 star food hygiene ratings - well done! Our experience was a real bit of sunshine on a rainy day. Highly recommend this restaurant/takeaway.More
