Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Popped here for a drink and game of pool the pool table was shockingly unlevel and staff didn’t seem to care drinks were over expensive for such a dive the pub is generally run down and the toilets are disgusting I won’t be going back...there are some great pubs in Albert road and elm grove don’t waste your time and money in this hole !More

During the quiet periods this is a great spot for a drink and a few games of pool. Friendly staff and good drinks selection on offer. Sadly it is also a hot spot for trouble it seems. Best to be avoided on the weekends. It's...cramped, too loud, and there's always some form of fight happening in the smoking area out front.More

I attended The Fox on Sunday for the Man Utd v Arsenal game, it turned into a nightmare to be served due to both bar staff being more interested in their mobile phones than looking up to see if any customers had arrived in or...needed refills? To have to call out or waving to get served due to them being away from the bar at a table looking down is not ideal. Unsure if they have had proper training or were just un-interested.More

I've never filled one of these out and I've never been back to the bar the next day to complain to the manager Before but today I'm doing both. Went for a pint on Friday 13th (I know) and the barman poured me a real...ale that didn't taste right, I thought it was me as ide had a vodka and coke somewhere else but as I kept drinking it I realised it was lager. I called the barman over and he said tough as ide drank some and I didnt know what I was talking about. I persisted and he came back and told me I was right (with attitude) and poured me another drink. I told him not to worry as people make mistake and with that he took the drink away and pored it down the sink. I was insulted big time at this point and asked for his name which he wouldn't give me and the staff tried to block me taking a picture of him.£4 to get in, £5 for a pint that I never got to drink. I'm an ex licensee and have never treated one of my customers like that so watch out for the barman who where's a beanie.More

Bar staff are obviously untrained; Don't understand how a queue works. And the guy with the pompey tattoo on the back of his neck (half moon and star) needs to sort his ego out, and be aware that he's working with staff with negligent training....Definitely won't be returning. Coke being done in the bathroom on the open, and the staff just let it happen 🤷‍♂️ An embarrassment to pompey pubs/bars. Do not visit.More

I visited with my friend who has a brain injury and struggles to walk. The bouncer told us we could not get in as my friend was wearing tracksuits. Please look at this picture and decide for yourself if you would class these as tracksuits....Eventually, we argued our way in, as the trousers are clearly smart, YET, 5 minutes later, my other friend who was actually wearing tracksuits got let straight in, not a question asked. The bouncer was clearly looking for a reason not to let my friend in based on his disability. This is disgusting behaviour. The bouncer should be ashamed of his exclusionary approach, and the fat fox should take action to take to stop this happening again. Scenios like this at the fat fox make me doubt humanity :'(More

Horrendous!!! waiting at the bar for ten minutes, fair enough they were busy but three guys came in after us stood at the bar and got served! Even after they pointed to us that we were next! All we got was abuse from all bar...staff! In mind we had only had a couple of drinks that evening! The response was disgusting! This place used to be full of fun and love! The staff they have now do not deserve to work in a customer facing industry! Totally appalled!More

It started off ok the staff servicing were fine but I saw a young lady being escorted out by a bouncer which was non of my business however as I walked past the bouncer I heard him say about this girl “silly cow” very unprofessional...I later saw him being extremely rude to another couple outside. It makes you feel extremely uncomfortable. There’s no need to have such attitude to someone trying to enter your pub. I won’t visit again.More

October 17, 2020 Right. Normally I couldn’t care, and pass on writing a review, but last night the service was too poor to pass on the opportunity not too. When we arrived, we were a group of five, but were sat at a table for...two maybe three. However this was something I would look past as we are in strange times, and obviously this table is better than none. When we ordered the first drinks it was fine. We all got our orders in and got them within a reasonable amount of time. However as the night progressed we could hardly find a waitress to serve us. It got to the point that no one came to even clear the dishes, which we had to clear ourselves by putting on the bar next to us, We waited and waited for a waitress, and when one finally passed, we got her attention. She came with the orders and then was surprised when we asked if we could split the bill and pay for our own drinks, she got snarky and said “just split the bill”, to which was unfair as one person ordered more items. This was at around 8:25. Little did we know, his would be he last order of the evening. For the next hour we waited and wanted to get more drinks. We waited and nothing happened. There was no waitress passing by or acknowledging us, from the bar where they all hung around. I should mentioned that never once did we get customer service motto of “how is everything?”. We looked around and there was another patron behind us, who was clearly loud and drunk, but for some reasons was still getting served. It’s no surprise as at the time there happened to be male member of staff hanging around this guy. Next to these two, were three of the waiting staff texting on heir phones, who unsurprisingly, did not seem eager to go and help any clients. They then decided to help themselves, and poured themselves drinks instead. We continued to wait. with our hands up for over thirty minutes and nobody served us. Then the male staff with the drunk patron jumped behind the bar and rang the bell, and yelled LAST call. For some reason Last Call didn’t mean “Last drinks, then get out”, it was just “get out”. We are perplexed wondering if this guy was suppose to be the bartender. The doorman walked by and we asked him about this confusion. When we told him we were waiting, he said “should of got their attention”. When we pointed we tried he responded with “Look, your not the only ones in the bar”. This obviously made us more infuriated. We just left at this point but we left incredibly frustrated and incredibly sober. The reason I write this is hopefully the owner sees this. Doubt it obviously, but there are some things that are just baffling as to how it happened . Bars can only stay opened till 10pm during the pandemic. Bars need to make as much as they can in that time. You need staff who can keep pushing the product in as short as time as possible, and not staff who clearly can’t keep up with the nature of a service job or would rather not be there. This was a Saturday the second busiest night of the week, and the bar is only opened til, 10. In those couple of hours, you need to sell it fast and hard. You need to maximize your time, ask patrons constantly if they need more drinks, not decide that you want to take a photo of a drink you poured. This pandemic can severely affect them, if they don’t change the quality of the staff. That said, food was adequate and if you can get any service, the drinks are reasonably price. As far as that night is concerned the Chef was the only one who did his job well.More

When lockdown eased and pub doors were reopened, this was the first place I went to. Their Covid-safe procedures and strategies are spot on, the beer is always fresh and clean, and the kitchen delivers some top quality pub food. All that plus the comfy...seats, the warm atmosphere, and the sport on the TVs make this the best pub in Southsea bar none!More
