We stumbled upon this place by accident. It was a Sunday night and most places had stopped serving food by 5pm so we were happy to find them open and serving food. If craft brews are your thing then this is your place. We were just looking for something yummy for dinner and they didn't disappoint. We ordered the whole chicken for two with 3 sides. We got the portabello mushrooms and the slaw. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Fabulous day long experience, following Felix the brewer through the beer making process, from choice of ingredients, the equipment used, the brewing itself and of course the best bit, sampling all 11 beers on offer. Definitely can’t drive after this day out. Breakfast and lunch provided, and you get to choose a mini keg (5ltr) of your favourite beer to take home. Great range of beers, something for everyone, and a good selection of well cooked pub food. Great value day out for all beer lovers, made really special by Felix’s knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for brewing. Thanks very much Felix!

What a brilliant time we had at the Brewhouse & Kitchen Portsmouth, lovely old pub, was originally The Black Swan AKA The Mucky Duck, we didn’t really know what to expect & thought a whole day might be slightly too long- how wrong we were. We were greeted by Felix the Head Brewer, we had tea & coffee, met the other 4 people in the group & he explained his background & how the day was going to pan out, his knowledge was amazing, I really thought we would just get tasters of beers along the way, but no, we ended up trying many, many halves throughout the day, but we didn’t get too squiffy as we were given delicious bacon rolls, during the first part of the process & a choice of lunch later on. I had the brisket burger, my husband had the fish & chips, both were delicious. Felix was brilliant he had us trying the oats, the beer throughout the first part of the process & made it not only interesting but fun. We left with a keg each of our favourite beers that we had tried - we could have come back & collected the beer that we made at a later stage, had we wanted to. I highly recommend it for a great day out, we got on so well with the people in our group, I don’t think it would make any difference if you just wanted to do it on your own, as everyone was involved & we were able to ask questions along the way. I have absolutely nothing negative to say, well organised, great value for money, fun, informative & definitely something I would like to do again ! Thanks Felix & chefs/bar staff

Met with my wife, disabled brother in law and new born baby for lunch whilst I was at work. My wife ordered the mac and cheese, which is served in a cast iron metal skillet on a wooden chopping board, full of red hot, molten cheese. The server tried to place my brother in laws sandwich on the table, reaching over the pram, which had my 7 week old son in. This did not need to happen, they were not busy at all, and there was space to walk round the other side of the table. As he did this, he still held my wife's food, and the heavy metal pan slid off the wooden board, bouncing off the end of the pram, and luckily bounced onto the floor rather than into the pram itself, which would have led to a tragedy for me and my new family. This pan was big enough to have killed my child if it landed on his head, the contents would have disfigured him. Had to wipe the cheese of the outside of our pram, an expensive purchase of ours. The server showed little concern. If this was me, I would have mortified and tried to do anything possible to make sure things were ok. He kept the plates in his hands whilst clearing the floor with a napkin from the table, and said he would get a new plate out. No real apology, or concern shown at all. I asked to speak to a manager, but there was not one on site. So where was a responsible license holder? There were some lesser concerns about the food itself, and after strongly complaining and insisting the food itself had a problem, we got a refund on the food, (not the entire bill, but to be fair the money isn't the point, I wouldn't be writing this if that was the case). I returned to the pub after work at 5, and found the manager, who cared almost as little as the staff member. I started to talk about what happened, and he kept just saying, 'yes, I know what happened'. His response was that they would discuss how they plate this dish up in future. At no point did I receive an apology, and looked annoyed that I'd come into the pub to talk to him about it. My wife was in tears when I got in, thinking about what almost happened. If they don't care about things like this, what do they care about? I really like the beer here, and have organised Xmas and other outings for the council department I work for, but I have noticed that standards have been slipping of recent, and after this, I think it's safe to say I won't be coming back here and will be making sure my friends and family all know about our experience and treatment. Thankfully my son is ok, and fortunatley for them this review is the only consequence of their dangerous incompetency/neglegence, it could have been so much worse

We visited the Brewhouse and Kitchen yesterday for a special occasion and unfortunately it was quite disappointing overall. The beers were good, a really good range and being able to try 3 different beers as 1/3rd pints was such a good idea. The food and service was not so good. We ordered through the app which the staff told us was the quickest and easiest way of doing it, however it did take a really long time for even drinks to arrive to the table (it wasn’t busy). We were disappointed to find that so much of the menu wasn’t available as well. Everyone in my party wasn’t able to get the starter or main they originally wanted due to it not being available (nachos, ribs, 2 burgers, chicken salad etc). Members of my party who had battered items (fish, halloumi, onion rings) mentioned that they were really quite greasy. When you picked up an onion ring you could see grease dripping from them. I had a salad, which for over £9, I didn’t think there was very much to it at all. However we all thought the chips were absolutely delicious! I would happily go again for beer and chips but I would avoid main meals and cocktails.

This was bought as a Xmas present for myself and my two sons and what a brilliant day there were 7 in the group and Felix the head brewer is well versed in his art and had a great enthusiasm for it. We all got involved in creating a brew from stirring the mash to adding the flavours (orange, coriander and hops) to create a wheat beer. In between we had bacon rolls for breakfast and burgers or chicken for lunch( very tasty) along with 1/2pt tasters of their range of beers well 11 of them anyway to be honest there were several I wouldn’t think of drinking but all really good. At the end of the day everyone has the choice of a keg of a previous brew or coming for one of our own a couple of weeks later my sons and I opted to do that ( that’s another review!!!) Many thanks to Felix and the team for a great experience that I’d be more than happy to repeat

We stayed in Portsmouth city centre for 3 nights and we went to this pub all nights. Good selection of local and homemade beers of all types, standard pub food with good quality and no complaints on the service. If I had time I would try the Gin tasting session or maybe the beer brewing day to learn more about these liquids.

We were booked for a gin tasting and meal deal for my friends hen party of 15. Because of delay to COVID rules relaxing we were worried we couldn’t go ahead but the team contacted us quickly and we were offered the roof garden which was absolutely brilliant (although up A LOT of stairs!). Luke looked after us so well all evening and the gin tasting was really interesting and included a lot of gin which was obviously great too. Food was good and all the staff were really flexible with us and very friendly which allowed us to have a really brilliant night. Overall great value too with bread and olives followed by a decent meal, 5 gins to taste and a double G&T of your favourite at the end - for £35 per head. Really responsive team managing the booking, easy payment and ordering in advance as well and then mobile ordering and payment on the night which made it so easy to manage. Would highly recommend for any special occasion.

The worst service! We had booked a table for a meal at 6pm before we went to the guildhall to see a show at 8pm. When seated the menu asks you to order through the QR code. Approx 10 minutes later a server arrived informing us that they did not have two of the drinks we had ordered and had turned the app off as it was showing things they didn’t have in stock. We ordered alternative drinks and then waited for our food. By 6:45 we still had no food, the fire alarm in the kitchen kept going off and a little while after the server arrived back at our table and informed us that our food order had only just gone through to them and they did not have one of the options. We explained that we had a show to get to and couldn’t understand why the food order had not gone through the same time as the drinks. The server was unapologetic and looked annoyed when we asked for a full refund. We will never be returning.

Myself and my daughter visited here yesterday to get a drink and a meal before going to the theatre. I ordered a coke and wasn't asked if I wanted a small or a large one and was given a pint which was just under £4.00. As our drinks were given to us I asked if we order food at the bar and was told they aren't doing food as the fryer is broken. Surely there should therefore have been a sign up clearly showing customers this or customers should be told on arrival at the bar or I would not have bought a drink! We decided to sit down for a while to have our drinks to see a family of 6 people order food minutes after we were told we couldn't. After reading some of the reviews I'm very pleased we went across the road to The Dockyard to eat where we had a wonderful meal.

Booked for 5:15pm for pre show dinner at the Guildhall. Greeted and seated without a problem. Little concerned about the number of bluebottle flies around but most seemed to be in the windows. From the table we were in we could see the kitchen. Order was taken quite quickly and drinks of lemonaid and a pint of cider arrived in due course. At 6:15 we noticed that a fish and chips had arrived on the hot platter waiting for service and a bowl which appeared to be my bang bang chicken. We had struck up a conversation with the couple next to us who had also ordered fish and chips and dirty fries. It would appear their food was also on the hot plate. The other gent got up to ask if that was his food and it was and it was bought to his table. The fish was burnt black and cold. The chips were cold on both plates. They sent it back and left. I then asked if it was my husband’s fish on the hot plate that had been out since 6:15 she checked and said it was but my bang bang chicken was waiting on one of the elements. I asked if my husband could at least have his I would wait for mine. She bought it over and it was also burnt to a crisp but cold and the chips were cold and like rubber. The time was now 6:45 and too late to eat anywhere else. Very disappointing- this was meant to be a nice night out with a nice meal and we ended up with a pasty from Sainsbury’s instead. Do not recommend.

6 of us went there Saturday for an impromptu drink/lunch, ended up staying the evening to watch Lions Rugby + England footie (4-0). Josh and his team gave us a fantastic, welcome and were just soo accommodating, we ended up with a room at the back of the bar + TV. I believe the venue has its own brewing facility + can arrange Gin Tasting etc - next time for sure. Facilities all good and include a quaint roof top terrace under cover with (6?) person beach hut for groups + benches/seating for more. ALL the beers/IPA/ brews were GREAT (we tried a lot!) and a special call out for Erin who served our table and ensured the flow of drinks and food were 'spot on' Thanks again guys, PERFECT venue GREAT atmosphere.

I feel a bit let down to be honest, I had a table booked tonight for 5.10pm, when I got shown to my table there was only one seat there, my companion was a few minutes behind me and the lady pulled a chair from another table. All the tables said reserved from 7pm, but as my booking was 5.10pm - 7.40pm it wasn't a problem. My table was right by the back door and the door was fixed open so was a bit chilly. The food let the night down really, I saw our plates go onto the serving hatch, the heat lamp was not on at that point and the chef only switched it on after our chips and sides had been sat there for a while, I saw the beans and chips sit for a good few minutes before the chicken was put on the plate, I would like to say 5 minutes, not sure why he didn't put the chicken on first then add chips and beans after. I saw the steam from chips and beans, then as I sat watching I no longer saw steam so I was a bit sad about that knowing it was coming my way, when food was finally brought over I put my finger in my beans and confirmed they weren't hot, neither was my friends gravy, it was supposed to be BK special gravy but was very watery and not hot, the brocolli was not great on his dinner either, he said it tasted as though it had been cooked previously and then warmed up, it was hard but then places tend to go aldente. On the third attempt at flagging down a member of staff I said the beans are cold and so is the gravy, the lad asked if I wanted them reheated which I did, my friend didn't want the fuss so kept the cold gravy, my beans were swapped out for what looked like promising hot beans, I could see steam but unfortunately when I put my finger in it was just warm, because the venue was so cold the beans were displaying signs of being hotter, they were hotter compared to room temperature, the chicken was nice though, just a shame about the sides. The most annoying thing about the evening was the fact I had to vacate my pre booked table at 7pm although booking was until 7.40pm as the pub was booked out to a coach load of children, I think they were French exchange or on a trip from France. I do understand that as a business you need to take money from wherever it comes from espeically at these hard times but as a paying pre booked customer I expect a little bit more better service. I am a regular at their Siuthsea venue and I always feel like a valued customer there, this place is like the poor cousin in comparison. I had to leave my table and find a seat in the bar, luckily I did get one, but the experience has left a bad memory for me.

A very cosy pub with very friendly staff who greeted as with a warm welcome. We had a lovely relaxing lunch time meal, we ordered roast dinners. The waitress was able to accommodate those with smaller appetites with small portions, which pleased my mother in law. I would definitely go again.

Thought I had gone to heaven with the range of home brewed ales plus other great beers on offer in the fridge. Staff have good suggestions on beers, so ask about styles and recommendations. Sunday was roast day so I pigged out on the half roast chicken and took up the offer of free roast spuds. Would like to try the beer tasting sessions they advertise.
