Love this Pub for lots of reasons but the food isn’t at the top of the list for me. The worst thing is the chips! Awful fat, bland things, that cover half the plate, and if the meal includes cold items like salad or coleslaw, the plate won’t be hot so they are cold in minutes. I keep hoping they will change them but have been sadly disappointed. I really believe the meals would benefit if they served home cooked chips, or frozen ones that taste like them! I can’t eat food that’s gone cold either, so I would prefer to have my food served on HOT plates, and any salad items served separately. I would halve the selection on the menu, and bring the “specials” board back with good old fashioned pub grub like Liver and Onions, casseroles or stews, Pork Chops, Toad in the Hole, Sausage and Mash with simple Pork Sausages. There’s no need for expensive Gastro Ingredients all the time. All that said, the staff have always been friendly and helpful, the Real Ales selection is extremely good and we love the decor and the log fire. Please change the chips!!!

This was our first venture into a pub since lockdown and I was very impressed with the measures put in place. The people with table bookings all have to send in their details per household for track and trace. This made me feel safer. The staff are wearing visors and the menus are freshly printed for each table. There is less on the menu but the firm favourites are there. The food as always was good as was the service. The quiz was excellent well done Pete! Even if you forget you have a visor on and hit it with your mike! The one plea is for other customers to observe the measures don't lean on the bar or touch other peoples tables as you undo all the good work in removing the risk of infection the staff have put in place. Oh and the new decor wow so light and bright whilst still being cosy!

Popped in on my own for a quiet lunch while I didn’t have my daughter with me. Been coming here for years so know the place well. I’ve not paid much attention to the prices before but this time I had a Tuna Melt, chips & a J20, which came to over £11 which I thought expensive. As I was on my own I just wanted to enjoy my lunch & a bit of peace so didn’t question it. Wouldn’t put me off coming back as I generally love the food here, especially the lunchtime melt baguettes & the staff are very friendly.

Visited The Ship for dinner with a couple of friends and can only describe the service as appalling. Had not been since the pub had been done up and knowing how much I like their sister pub The Horns I thought I’d give it a try for a change. Food was still a really good standard here, but me and my party were completely forgotten about for the entire evening having to wait extremely long periods of time for someone to take our food order, then when we ordered a second round of drinks it was completely forgotten about and never arrived. After our meal we were waiting on someone to come to the table to order dessert and drinks and no one ever showed before and after the new last orders rang at about 9:15pm due to covid. Eventually we had to give up with the idea of this and finally at 9:40pm someone came over with our bill to pay. Such a shame and disappointment for a place that does do such good food but the service is really letting them down.

Half the menu not available, which was already reduced from the online showing with no prior warning even though id booked a table of 10 and paid a deposit down for that. We had 5 adults and 5 kids and asked the kods food all to come out with the adult starters. None came with the starters. Half the starters were 15 mins before the second lot. Kids sat for 30 mins watching adults eat starters, this is all well over 1.15hrs since arriving by the way then one kids meal comes well in advance of the others, the final 4 coming staggered in 2s. Kida pizza, im 90-95% is just a value auper market pizza. 2 adult meals having to be sent back. One bruger having a frozen bun and one having been cooked 0900 last Wednesday and then slung on a plate to serve. The table we booked for ten (i didnt tell them it was 5 adults and 5 kids so they should have assumed 10 adults.) would no way have fit if 5 of our party werent half sized!) the end of our table basically butted up to the next with people squeezing through the gap while someone was trying to eat their dinner. All the staff had face shields on but not who i assume to be the manageress? Perhaps she thinks she cant carry covid because she wears a different coloured top to the rest of the staff. Ive had some really good experiences at The Ship a few years back and wgen other places were booked up i thought it would be the perfect replacement. I was wrong! Ive been bragging out this place to my best pal for weeks about how we'll take our families there and slather up some real nice grub. Was I wrong, what an embarrassment. Im sure the ship must be under new management because compared to what ive had this was awful. If it wasnt already 50% off for help out to eat out (which the guy behind the bar tried to pass off as good will) it would have been 200+ for the arse end of the kitchen scraps. Ive honestly been so dissatisfied by the visit. Im sure i wont be coming back.

I'm not one to write reviews but was gutted as the ship inn is one of my favourite pubs! visited on Saturday for a meal and was really disappointed with the food and service. They had a function on so I completely understand why service might have been a bit slow but would have been nice to have a bit of warning about this. We didn't get our starters till about 25 mins after we ordered, they were lovely but then also didn't get cleared for a long time after we finished. Mains came after another lengthy wait and had the ribs and Southern fried chicken combo, ribs were dry and got three little chicken coujons. No apology about slow service. Not the usual standards.

We attended a family friends christening as they had hired the function room for the special event. The service was sloppy from the management and the people who hired it had to constantly ask for things that were paid for as part of the package. Half way though the booking the pitbull manager closed the function room bar and toilet access and when questioned about this she said that it's not worth their while to have the function room open. There was over 100 people at the event and everyone was spending money at the bar. The function room was hired so that the children and family friends were able to use the facilities without having to use the public bar side of the bars facilities. We arrived at 3pm and not one glass was collected until 6pm. This is after over 100 people had purchased multiple rounds each. £450 was paid for the food for the event, the food was of a good standard and quality but the quantity of food supplied for that amount of money was appalling. There was also a £20 charge for electricity so that a bouncy castle could be used, I understand that electricity isn't free but surely when hiring a function event room this could have been covered by the hundreds of pounds spent by the patrons and the people who booked the event. This is not the first time that we have attended an event at the ship Inn and yet again the level of disrespect from the manager ruined what was planned as an fantastic day. Laughs and happy times were had by all despite the foul service from the manager.

Was met by a young man on entering the pub who was very polite and showed us to a table and let us know that it was bar service only which wasn't a problem. There was also a sign on entering that you could wear a mask if you wanted to but all members of staff were wearing masks. Ordered our food of a Cheese Burger, Faggots and Chips and Lincolnshire Sausage and Mash all in a large Yorkshire pudding. Also a side of onion rings, garlic bread and our drinks. The food arrived quite quickly so no complaints but the Burger was over cooked, dry and plenty of gristle so it didn't get eaten sadly. The Sausage and Mash was good but not enough gravy ( you either like gravy or you don't) My wife asked a man behind the bar if he was the Chef and he said no but I can pass on a message. She said she was enjoying her food but would like some more gravy. He said OK. 10 minutes later no gravy so my wife went to the bar and asked a young lady who then returned to our table with 2 minutes. The Faggots were good with Chips and vegetables. During our meal we were not asked if we were happy with our food ( despite other tables being asked if everything was OK ) which is a little disappointing as you pay for your food before receiving it. If I had to pay at the end of our meal then I would have said it wasn't good enough and could you let the chef know it was overcooked so he could take a bit more care when cooking the next Burger. Finally the plates were collected and at the time we were asked how the food was. The Burger was only quarter eaten but the chips and onion rings were eaten. We mentioned to them that the burger was very dry, she said ohhhh sorry. I used to use this pub every Friday for lunch for about 6 years and it was very very good. Sadly it isn't what it once was but I'm sure that it can get better and make people's experience a more memorable one.

Lovely old fashioned pub. Asked 3 staff for cutlery and condiments, but had to speak to the manageress in the end. Food was cold by the time cutlery arrived for starters. Mains, sent chicken and ribs back as it was cold, the burger was sent back as it hard, the fish was all batter. Poor service for the prices that were charged.

My partner and myself came here last week on the Sunday for a spot of lunch, didn’t book and turned up off the cuff. We got shown to a table straight away in which they explained the track and trace rules in place. We ordered food my partner got the chilli con carne burger and I got Lasagne with side salad. The food didn’t take long to come and the portions were very good! The side salad was bigger than the lasagne which was still lovely my partner loved his food and would recommend both meals to friends and family. Good price for a good home made pub lunch!

We visited this restaurant and used the function/skittles room for the 5th time for our family Christmas meal and will not be returning again. Last year we were advised on the day that they could not guaranteed that one of the meals ordered would be nut free meaning that someone had to make a trip to McDonalds to get a meal for my niece as we couldn’t risk her eating anything because of her nut allergy. We decided to given them one more go this year. Even though this was a family Christmas event and there weren’t any Christmas decorations, the room was freezing cold and we had to ask over and over again for things, like salt and pepper. Two of the starters came out frozen in the middle and two of the mains, chicken, was raw in the middle - not just a little, but completely. Two of the meals were missing, one of which we did forget to add to list and therefore was our fault, however, the other was ordered the day before and the lady who was serving came out and made a big fuss about the fact that Dad had got it wrong in front of everyone - she was really rude! Bearing in mind there are usually 22-24 of us and we have wine with the meal and all buy drinks we spend well over £1000. Unfortunately they will be loosing our custom going forward.

A return visit after three years, with Myles as part of our regular Lads Who Lunch meet ups. The place hasn't really changed since my previous visits - this is still a pub loaded with charm in a forgotten and awkward to access location. The place was busy, but there was plenty of places to sit. A new addition is that you have to wait at the entrance until a member of staff comes to show you to a table. Even though we had a choice of tables, this may not be the case on a sunny Sunday in summer, so it would be wise to book. I found the beer choice to be much improved over previous visits: there were four beers by reasonably local brewers. I had the Spring Zing and the Pigswill, both in decent condition. The food choice wasn't as impressive as the beer choice, and instead of struggling to decide between various temptations, we found ourselves struggling to find something we wanted to eat. Myles had a Brie and Bacon Baguette with Crisps, while I had a Baked Potato with Beans and Cheese. Not exciting choices, but, to be fair, very tasty. We both enjoyed our meals. All in all, a very decent pub with history and character, worth seeking out.

The pub itself has a pleasant atmosphere - lots of charm and character, feels cosy. It was a bit Smokey when we walked in from where they lit the fire but this certainly isn’t a negative. The food is great - I was very surprised by the VERY generous portions at such a good price. The quality of the food is excellent too. Parking can be a bit difficult at busier times, may have to park quite far away. The only big issue I found was that the only baby change is in the ladies. Apparently, in this day and age, dads never want to change their baby. After asking, I was directed to the ladies toilet. Staff checked if anyone was in there so I could enter but while I was in there, a few very shocked looking women came in along with female children - HIGHLY inappropriate for me to be in there!! Please please get baby change in the gents. It doesn’t cost a lot and this in itself is enough to not make me really want to return if I have my kids with me.

A group of friends went for dinner and a get together. The food was amazing and portion sizes were definitely generous. And when the puddings came it sounded like a bunch of kids. We had Ship wreck, cookie monster and the ships chocoholic, every mouthful we found a different piece of chocolate and goodies. We are now thinking of going back for a skittles night, had one there last year and had a brilliant time. The pub was quite busy and there was a good atmosphere, staff where all lovely. Will be making this a regular meeting place

Have visited this pub for Sunday lunch several times and the roast is normally very good with succulent meat fresh veg and lovely crispy roast potatoes and gravy. This evening we pre ordered on their Christmas celebration menu and it was really disapointing The Turkey was tasteless the roastys were overcooked and well steamed so had gone really soft as if they’d been covered and kept warm. . The vegitables were diced swede carrots and pale coloured sprouts. None of it looked like the veg they serve on a Sunday . This cost more than the Sunday roast and was not worth the £26 95 that we paid for 2 courses. We complained to the waitress and she came back and said the landlady was sorry we didn’t enjoy it but she’d had no other complaints We then asked to talk to the landlady and she was very flippant and was not interested in what we had to say. Didn’t really get a satisfactory apology . We certainly won’t be going back in the future .
