Such a great little restaurant on our doorstep. We booked on line for 12th August Eat Out to Help Out and upon arriving our booking was not there (when booking on line please call the restaurant to confirm or wait for them to call you). Despite this we were slotted in and hastily looked after and fed, there was another booking arriving at our table so we werent there for as long as we would have liked but all the same the service, staff and food were all excellent!

A friend and I wanted to savour the delights of a highly recommend restaurant and we were not disappointed! Even for Tuesday evening the place was buzzing & very popular! The manager provided great service & although we had to wait for a table (we had booked) this didn't lessen our enjoyment. We had a mix of popadoms firstly served with lovely chutneys, one on particular their own lemon version was really good. As recomended by friends we had the '65' shared starter of spicy chicken on the bone which was amazing. We both then had a lamb main course, one rather hot as required. We also had pila rice and perswari nann, all washed down with a couple of beers. Brilliant, will be back soon!

My boyfriend and I both really love Indian food, and have done a tour of the more prominent Indian restaurants of Southampton and this is hands-down the best one. The flavours are wonderful, the naan impeccable, and the staff are so friendly and kind. What's more is that this restaurant is extremely reasonably priced, not pricey in the slightest. This is definitely our Indian restaurant of choice and I don't think we would really think about going anywhere else! Would highly recommend.

A group of us attended on time for a booked table, but one and a half hours later we had only been served with poppadoms despite numerous requests to staff to get a move on. It seems that the staff here prefer to serve the takeaway clients at the expense of those seated at tables. When the food arrived it was, in my opinion, pretty ordinary and totally overrated in these columns. Pilau rice appeared to be just boiled rice with a sprinkling of eucalyptus and smothered with some sort of oil. Curries were crude and unsophisticated. Mainly a student venue. I certainly will not return to be treated in this fashion.

The food quality was very good, being tasty authentic Keralan cuisine, although possibly a little on the hot (chilli) side. Prices were fair and the ambience was good. What let them down though was the extremely slow service when we visited on a busy Saturday night. The tables in the restaurant, appeared to be neglected in favour of supplying take out orders.

Lovely local Indian - the food is freshly made with care, I asked for a jalfrezi but a little less spicy than usual and they were more than happy to oblige. Onion bhajis were crisp and tasty and not at all greasy. Large portion for a really great price so I have lunch sorted for tomorrow :)

We have been going to Kohinoor for half a dozen years. The quality of the food and authentic spices and flavours are always consistent. Kohinoor is a far cry from other curry houses that use one standard gravy, food colourings and chilli powders and to differentiate different dishes. Each dish is unique, authentic and packed with flavour. The staff are excellent, and the atmosphere is great. Beware though! This place gets BUSY so it’s always a good idea to book in advance. That being said if there isn’t availability in the restaurant the quality of the take away service matches the quality of the restaurant!

I visited with a colleague for lunch. We ordered pappadums and two pints of draught Cobra. The beer was well chilled and served in proprietary glasses. My king prawn jalfezi was freshly cooked and spicy with green chillis, as I like it. It contained various vegetables, as well as the prawns and delicious sauce. You might think that 'rice is always the same', but the rice here is very tasty - perfectly cooked with each grain separated. My friend had a Keralan chicken dish and a mushroom bhaji, both very good. Nearly all 'Indian' restaurants feature Bangadeshi cooking. Some of them are excellent too. This is the only restaurant nearby that has Indian chefs, so far as I know. Highly recommended.

Awesome place. Outstanding Indian (Kerelan) food, fantastic menu choice and wonderful, friendly and helpful staff. Have never had a less than outstanding meal here, and the lovely staff will always recommend menu selections for your taste, or even create something bespoke if need be. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Without doubt Southampton’s #1 Indian restaurant.

I have tried a couple of Indian restaurants in Southmapton. From everything I've tried Kohinoor is the most pleasant and probably the restaurant I would always want to come back to try different dishes. Besides this, it feels more private compared to large restaurants and it is very reasonable priced.

Starter - the quality of starter is very poor as they are made to be cheaper, for example Uzhunnu vada has not enough uzhunnu in it, taste like cardboard, but the price was premium (£4.20 for 3pieces). You can do better than this. Main - the Varatharacha meen Curry (sea bass fish Curry) was really tasty and had the aunthentic Keralan flavour , but it only had a small sea bass fillet in it for £12.95. The vazhuthananga (aubergine) Curry was OK, it lacked the authenticity, tasted very basic as if it was cooked by an amateur cook.

Tonight was one of a series of visits I have made to ‘Kohinoor of Kerala’, this time with friends who introduced me some years ago. The food was wonderful again as I have come to expect. Over time I have become a real fan of the parathas, which I discovered here first. I have not found their like on my travels, nor have I been able to reproduce them myself. The team looking after the guests is special : engaging, unfailingly polite but with a friendly smile that turns a great meal into an occasion. I am still discovering new flavours and that is part of the fun. Tonight we had a sharing starter platter and a lamb dish - melt in the mouth. To the team: thank you and keep up the great work.

I've eaten here a few times now over the last couple of years and every time I do I'm amazed by the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. We have taken various groups of our friends along and they have all equally enjoyed the experience. Being a South Indian restaurant the dishes are a change from the other run of the mill Indian restaurants and they have always been very accommodating in making any changes we requested to levels of spice or ingredients. I'm torn between giving a great review or keeping this great restaurant my own little secret. Colin Harding

I have visited this restaurant a couple of times before and the service and quality of food has diminished considerably. I ordered a takeaway, I was told that it would be ready in 40 minutes but had to wait for well over an hour. The food was not worth the wait and curries were completely covered in oil! We will not be visiting again.

This is by far the best curry house, if not best restaurant, in Southampton. The food is consistently good and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Last night we had a terrific meal, our starter of tandoori lamb chops were cooked to perfection and meatier than ones we’ve tried at other high end curry houses. Our mains, chicken tikka and garlic chicken were both excellent and the tarka dahl creamy and delicious; we were also given a complimentary dish, a fresh tasting chickpea, green bean and grated coconut side that was a welcome addition to the table. We will definitely be back soon! Thank you to all the staff for making it a lovely evening.
