Banana Wharf is a modern diner in Ocean Village. Large windows provide a view over the yachts in the harbour, and also across the water to Woolston Sewage Works. It's a little more bland and prosaic looking inwards, so if you're bringing someone here for a special meal, be considerate and give them the seat facing out. Myles and I came on a Friday lunchtime. The place was mostly empty so we weren't seeing it at its best, but even so, there is a bland coldness about the interior that is not inviting. There is little in the way of style or quirkiness, such as with the nearby Maritimo Lounge, nor any cosy warmth. It feels like a modern office space. Matters are not helped when, even empty, you have to stand at a podium to wait to be directed to a table. Each to their own, but I prefer to sit myself, but I suppose they wish to create an upmarket feel. The prices are a tad high for everyday eating, but are not excessive, and the lunchtime menu was very inviting, and if accompanied by the £1 soft drink deal, offers reasonable value. I really enjoyed my squid. Myles had the fish finger wrap, which came with chips (why not offer a salad as an option?), and was pretty average. We didn't find anything special to like about the place,. On the plus side I really liked my Salt & Pepper Squid and fully recommend that, on the negative side we found the decor to be old fashioned, and the general ambiance to be cold and functional. On the whole the place is kinda average. If you come here with appropriate expectations I can't see anyone being disappointed, but this isn't the place to bring your special one for a date, nor is it the place to bring friends for a good night out. Business meals on expense accounts is what this place is best suited for. Nobody is going to be distracted or get the wrong idea, and the service and the food is not going to disappoint or embarrass anyone.

We had a fab dinner at a Banana Wharf whilst staying at the hotel in the Marina. My buttermilk chicken burger was delicious, hands down the best burger I’ve ever had in a restaurant, and the ribs and wings combo went down very well too. Service was quick and friendly and we felt the price whilst perhaps a little on the high side was reasonable given the location and the quality of the food received.

This is our first time to Banana Wharf and only second time out post lockdown to brave a meal out. The staff were warm and welcoming and I was very impressed with the organisation. All staff wore masks, tables were well spaced with a one way system. If seated downstairs you are asked to use the disabled toilet to save you having to wander upstairs. You are asked to photo the specials board on way past to minimise you getting up and walking around. Tables are cleaned well and cutlery only bought to the table as food is being served. There was no hand sanitizer on the table but plenty around. We asked if we could use one after being seated and they bought a bottle to the table and left it there for the duration of the meal. The food was good. Starters nothing to write home about. We had the squid which was too salty for our liking but the mains were lovely. Fajitas were good portion and tasty, and the Indonesian Nasi Goreng was fantastic. Big prawns and lots of chicken. Felt safe and it was great to have a meal that we hadn’t cooked and even better not to do the washing up! Will definitely return.

They took our food and drink order promptly, which is where the good service ended. After taking our order we had to wait half an hour minutes in the boiling heat, in a restaurant that wasn't even busy, for our drinks. When we eventually asked he said he had forgotten to put them through without any apology. Our food arrived before our drinks. The food was mediocre, obviously, a cheap bit of steak and the chips were soggy and tasteless. We had to get up to find our own salt, pepper and sauces as none were offered to us . We then tried to get the attention of any waiter, this took absolutely ages. There were multiple tables around us looking around waiting for the waiters which just stared out of the windows while spraying tables. It was actually quite awkward seeing everyone around us so agitated by the service. We eventually went up to a waiter to ask for water. He said yes he would get some and then carried on standing on his phone behind the sweet counter. At this point, we wanted to walk out. Not one member of staff asked us if our food was nice. We ended up walking out without finishing our food and definitely not leaving a tip. Would never go back. Also no covid restrictions, no masks, no hand sanitizer.

Apart from the wonderful views of the harbour and the good company, our meal was a huge disappointment. Even though the restaurant wasn’t busy it took a good 5 minutes for someone to take our reservation and walk us to the table. The table was extremely sticky, must have been either detergent or beer. The waitress was slow and we waited for a long time for our drinks which arrived at the same time as our food. The overly-priced pizza was clearly reheated and unappetising. The restaurant was lacking in atmosphere and the waiting staff could not seem bothered with much. We were astounded to see that they take an automatic 10% service charge. Such a disappointing meal and in retrospect we should have gone to nearby buzzing Oxford Street with its many eating establishments.

We used to go here a lot and the service and good was fantastic. However, on our visit this afternoon it was shocking. We had booked a table for two at 1430 and arrived just before this to be seated. It took 30 minutes until someone took even an order just for drinks. Food took an hour and a half to arrive after ordering, and was pretty lame. Starters felt like they'd just been microwvaed. Then for main course a very small piece of steak for £18 and they tried to hide this by covering the plate in a massive pile of salad leaves. We didn't bother ordering a dessert as by this point we'd been there for over 2 hours and were tired or being generally ignored. The tables around us were similar with people having to 'flag down' staff who seemed generally disinterested. One table beside us complained about chlorine in their jug of water and their food being burnt to a crisp. Ours was different with the food looking under-cooked and the drinks pretty tasteless. Such a shame... plenty of staff, but they didn't seem to care at all. Have they forgotten how to run a restaurant? We won't be returning anytime soon!

My dish (costing £19) came out without the main ingredient. When I asked if they could come out, the waitor went to tell another waitor, pointing and talking about me from across the restaurant. The prawns were then brought out to me, to which the waitress said “here’s the prawns that were missing. Apparently”. I found this incredibly rude. From this point, another waitor came over and asked if my prawns were okay. I had not spoken to this person until this point, so it was obvious that I was clearly a point of discussion. Overall, my evening was ruined and I won’t be returning. The food is over priced and the service is awful.

Absolute daylight robbery. Ate out for the first time after lockdown and couldn't have been more disappointed. The bill was £90 for a family of 4 and didn't even included much alcohol (1 pint). The Linguini Marinara was atrocious with no flavour, just a bowl of pasta with a bit of boiled seafood on top. I could have made it better at home. The beef stir fry was disgusting and just tooooo salty (way too much soy sauce!) The cheesy garlic bread was awful, cold and hard. And to top it all off...I was billed £9 service charge! I certainly would not recommend wasting your money here and will not be returning!

First: Banana Warf located in beautiful Ocean Village , with nice marina view and very relaxing atmosphere. Second: The food is always delicious, very tasty, big portions, dressing with very yummy sousses. Third: All personal very friendly, polite and ready to help you and suggest you something, but they not desturbing you during the meal. Service is fast, you don't need to seat and wait forever. Last night our table was served by Marcel, very nice waiter. He helped us eith menu, describing everything what they have for dinner. He made very good presentation about delicious food and follow his advice we ordered and enjoyed our dinner. Very highly recommend Banana Warf. If you wish to enjoy food, atmosphere, relax and have nice view, you have to try this experience. You would love this place.

We visited on a Monday afternoon. It was a very hot day so we decided to eat outside. We were promptly given a menu and our drinks order taken. Our drinks arrived quickly and we placed the order for our meals. The menu had a good selection of different cuisines including Pizza & Pasta, Burgers and Grills, Asian and British. The food was fresh and hot when it arrived. The quality was very good and the portions were generous. My husband had the Sirloin Steak with a peppercorn sauce, which was a reasonable size and cooked to perfection. He said it was the best steak he had for sometime and the sauce was excellent. I had the Rib and Wing Combo which was very generous. Six meaty ribs and 4 large chicken wings all in a lovely BBQ sauce. The chips served with both meals were good and obviously cooked fresh, no frozen oven chips here! We were served by Ksenia who was very polite and helpful, couldn't have asked for better service, especially as they were very busy (possibly due to the government's "Eat out to help out" half price meal incentive). This was the busiest restaurant in Ocean Village and I can see why. Will be returning very soon.

What a pleasant find, made to feel special. Not your usual gastro pub style microwaved meals, but food prepared to look good and taste good, delivered with passion. Big plate fulls left me stuffed at the end. Well done to everyone there, and a big thank you!

My 8oz sirloin steak was just perfect my chips fantastic please ask for Dorota.A she was amazing. The nachos for a starter I would definitely recommend the halumi fries as well. I absolutely loved the crepe you could put anything you want on there it tasted like it was made with passion. And the crepes were bigger than I thought they were going to be the drinks and the speed of our orders and service was just unlike any other restaurant I would really recommend going there are some fantastic views and is very family freindly.

We use this restaurant at Ocean Village very regularly due to it being so close to the Marina. The service and food is normally to a very high standard but today was very different!!! We sat down at 2:30pm and by 4:30pm we had only had our starters. The restaurant was busy on our arrival but by 3pm there were only a few tables occupied so no excuse for poor service. We had to ask for everything constantly and waited over 15 minutes for a round of drinks. When we asked the waitress where our drink were she snapped back that we’d only ordered them 7 minutes ago, which was absolute rubbish. They forgot one of our starters and then two main courses and took forever to clear the plates or generally do anything. One of the waiters was very friendly and helpful when our drinks finally arrived but were incorrect, he rushed off to change them and apologised when arriving back with the correct order. A shame the waitresses didn’t take note of his good customer service. Safe to say we didn’t leave a tip and the rudest waitress seemed surprised by this….. We were not the only table to complain about the poor service! We won’t be rushing back any time soon!!!

Went for drinks on a sunny Sunday morning. Location is great with a nice view of the marina. The drinks were overpriced however and of poor quality. The strawberry milkshake did not look or taste like a strawberry milkshake. It was just milk. The hot chocolate was very weak - had hardly any chocolate in it. And apparently you can't order any snacks with your drinks, you have to go to a separate section of the store for that...
