I have ordered take out from Light of Bengali a numerous times. The spice level is different from other Indian restaurants that I am familiar with, for example, the Special Chicken Mossala is listed as medium, mine was very mild. I like that you can order extra salad, if you want more vegetables for a nominal fee. One thing that I found alarming was that while I was waiting to pick up a order, I saw a staff member take chicken out of the fridge and smell it, as if to see if it was still safe to cook, or so was my impression. Most restaurants you can not see what happens in the kitchen…this was a bit off putting, but I have gone back since as they are convenient in location and make a fair take out menu.

I tried the takeaway on the strength of the reviews and wasn’t disappointed. I asked were the chapatis & rotis made from wholemeal flour (Atta) and the chef reassured me that yes they were so I went ahead and ordered Lamb Jalfrezi (recommended by the server) Sag bhaji & Roti with poppadoms to start - with the usual accompaniments (I was glad to find no tomato in my chopped onion btw and they do lime pickle too). All very tasty. A good test is to taste any left over food cold in the morning and it passed that test with flying colours. Only small criticism is the Sag bhaji was perhaps a little over salted. They said I was welcome to wait inside the restaurant so I did after walking around for a while. I noted that they had Cobra on draught but disappointingly not Kingfisher (Kingfisher is available bottled).

Always rely on them coming up with goods - a good range of favourites and tempting specials to please all diets and tastes. Plus the delivery driver Andrew is very courteous while observing contactless delivery. When can I order again?! :-#

We are regulars at Light of Bengal and always enjoy fantastic food, which is reasonably priced, plus friendly and speedy service. Today we had a take-away which ranks as the best we've ever had. Why? First of all it was delicious, secondly, it was all freshly cooked and thirdly it was hot (spicy and temperature). All in all, superb. Definitely the best Indian food in Winchester!

Light of Bengal is my favourite Indian takeaway in Winchester. Generally speaking, they deliver fairly quickly (on average, I'd say about half an hour-ish). If you're wondering what to have, the chicken bhuna from Light of Bengal is my favourite. Before trying that here, I stuck to the standard chicken korma and chicken tikka masala, but I decided to be a little (teeny tiny) bit more adventurous. I discovered I loved chicken bhuna, but when I ordered it in other places, I realized I just loved it at the Light of Bengal. It's not too spicy at all, it just has a tiny hint of heat. The fact that they provide smaller meals at a lower deal rate is great if you're ordering for just yourself or small children. You're able to order a curry and rice which comes in one foil package. Perfect for minimizing food waste. All in all, I love this takeaway restaurant. Highly recommended - particularly to students in Winchester, as you're able to save some money by ordering a meal rather than individual items.

The light of Begal is a real hidden gem. It is a compact restaurant with a separate take away on the side, I have been going there as a regular for a few years now, I cannot fault the food and service of the staff who are always very friendly and helpful. The food is very authentic and traditional without the need to be ostentatious or fancy looking like some over priced restaurants in Winchester.

My friend and I booked here for dinner and we were highly impressed with our meal and service. We were abit nervous coming out for our first meal since COVID but the staff here soon eased our worries with their professionalism, PPE and cleanliness. The meal was served quickly and it was delicious! We couldnt have been made to feel more welcome! Some Indian restaurants make you feel rushed out the door but At the Light of Bengal they can’t do enough for you! Really really happy and will be back again soon! Thankyou :)

Had booked a table for 3 on Sunday, as we had visited there before and we had a similarly great experience once more. Our main Waiter was a pleasant chap called Roni, who ensured that we had plenty of drink and food, and never once made us feel pressurised in to eating up and getting out. He deserves a 5 star rating himself. He was professional and helpful when required to be so. The food that we had was Bengal special lamb and lamb dum pukta both dish was glorious and well priced too. Looking forward to our next visit at this fantastic Indian restaurant. Thank you light of bengal.

We enjoyed a delicious family takeaway from Light of Bengal. Everything we ordered was delicious, warm, and there were even a few freebies thrown in (extra papadams, bombay aloo). Very much recommend this place for a great family takeaway.

As regulars I can comfortably say the Light of Bengal always delivers (even though I collected haha!). A great choice of menu and meals always ready on time, pipping hot and even freebie dishes to expand the pallet!! Very reasonably priced and the staff are good people. Tonight I asked for something completely off the menu and chef put together a veggie Dhansak with spinach...deeelish; thanks for being so flexible!! In sum, great! Thank you 🙏🏼

We stayed at south winchester golf club lodges and decided to have an indian. Light of bengal had 4* on just eat and delivered to us. Placed our order and had an eta of 19.45, it was with us by 19.30 and it did not disappoint, each of our curries were full of flavour but without too much grease, poppadom were still crispy and we had plenty of dips too. Great indian

The restaurant was quiet, as expected on a Sunday evening, but everything was clean and fresh and there was pleasant background Indian popular music. The member of staff who welcomed and served me, Roni, was very helpful in answering my question about the food, which was first class. I particularly recommend the tandoori chicken byriani, as the accompanying vegetable curry was outstanding. Although the restaurant was quiet, the twake=away section was obviously very popular.

Food and service is extraordinary! We’ve ordered a variety of veggie, meat and seafood dishes over the years and everything has been fantastic. We like everything extra spicy so they cook our dishes to order. Everything is always fast, delicious and piping hot! It’s our go to comfort food in Winchester!

The Light of Bengal is one of Winchester’s best kept secrets. The food is delicious, good value and the restaurant is non pretentious with lovely friendly owners who do everything they can to please. Ronnie and his team are always welcoming and hospitable. Can’t recommend highly enough.
