There are plenty of good places to eat in Winchester but, for us, this place wins hands down. Absolutely charming historic venue. Decent service. Amazing food, cooked and presented to a very high standard. A gentle trout starter, and a full-flavoured chicken parfait starter set us up well. Rich and tender braised ox cheeks were as good as you get,... More

Business lunch for two hungry chaps. Great food, extensive wine list, laid back service, decor slightly faded bordering on jaded, extremely reasonable price. Both of us had a great lunch, good portion size and enjoyed ourselves immensely Highly recommend

My boyfriend and I went with a couple of friends and very much looked forward to eating in this restaurant after reading some of the reviews. Three ordered the Lamb on mash potatoes and spinach, vegetables are extra! I don’t have a big appetite and ordered Hake, the portion was extremely small and swimming in a parsley dressing with mushrooms... More

We booked a table for a Saturday evening as a valentines date. The building seems to be quite old, it had a lovely fire and the decor was very rustic. The place has a lot of character. The food itself was wonderful. It's very reasonably priced for the quality and we really enjoyed every course. Beautiful restaurant with excellent food.... More

The restaurant is in a lovely old building full of character. The menu was really varied and catered for most people's requirements. The service was excellent and great care was taken by the staff to make the tables look nice. The food was delicious, well worth a visit.

Valentines weekend getaway we'd booked on the back of trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed. (On a freezy day) we had a great table by the fire which was regularly tended throughout our stay; although an over-dependence on fire lighters (seriously, every time a fresh log was tonged on!?) suggests someone's fire tending isn't up to the same standard... My boyfriend and I had a fantastic evening at the Chesil Rectory. Having visited unsuccessfully previously, after walking in on a whim only to find the restaurant fully booked, we took the managers advice and made a dinner reservation for a Saturday night three weeks in advance. The food and ambience definitely did not disappoint. The building is one of... More
