I absolutely love this place. My boyfriend and I used to go here regularly before we left the area. The food is always fresh and local, the service friendly and on point and the atmosphere is really quite something else. If you haven't been before and if you have then I'm sure you'll keep going back!

I had the most wonderful lunch here today - venison carpaccio was silky smooth and wonderful; lemon sole with pink fir potatoes and celeriac remoulade was perfect; and my Christmas Pudding cheesecake was uniquely memorable, indulgent without being sickly. I have not had such a good meal in a restaurant in recent memory - as a keen cook I am... More

In a city stuffed full of eateries of every genre the Chesil stands out as one of the best. Lovely atmosphere in the ancient building, particularly in the evening. Friendly staff. The food is excellent, carefully prepared from mostly locally sourced produce, and the menu changes seasonally. It's not cheap but fairly priced in my opinion for the quality offered.... More

Recommended by friends on our first trip to Winchester the Chesil Rectory was in their top 5 and rightly so! Amazing historic building you could almost imagine bring in it all this hundred of years ago. It has not been tampered with and still has lots of original features. The a la carte menu was interesting and had something for... More

On a cold November afternoon we were looking for a cosy upmarket restaurant in Winchester. We followed the advice of Trip Advisor and went to Chesil Rectory. Without a reservation we were shown to a lovely table adjacent to the log fire. There were two of us dining, with one of us choosing the a la carte and the other... More

What a pleasure, what simple quality, what superb cooking, what a lovely place with a view down the high street framed by King Alfred, quiet, but alive, good atmosphere excellent service, and three courses for less than I paid for one dish in London. I'll happily take the train from London to have lunch here.

Booked a table as a surprise for my mum's birthday after we had looked longingly through the windows for a number of years. We weren't disappointed. The atmosphere was great (beams, candles, open fires), the food was delicious and the staff lovely. Worth special mention was the duck main - it was absolutely beautiful - and the birthday treat which... More

My friend and I were stopping over in Winchester before visiting Portsmouth historic dockyard. Being a foodie I wanted a top class restaurant with great food, and the CR did not disappoint. The ambience is calm and intimate if a tad gloomy, the staff are lovely and our waiter was just lovely and very helpful especially as my friend is... More
