A rather unique setting and a very interesting place.Having had a huge cooked breakfast we were looking for something light. The menu was a bit limited. The only thing that suited us was soup. The soup was a bit weird but was quite tasty. However they served it with the smallest bread rolls I have ever seen. Given that it... More

Came here for dinner on Saturday night, as group of 6 friends. Been a few times before and like the cosy atmosphere, with log fires and characterful old pub quirkiness...old school desks as table in bar area, tankards hanging from the ceiling and a warren of dining areas. Reliably good food and recent visit was even better than on previously,... More

One of my favourite pubs in Winchester. They generally have a good selection of ales including local favourite Flowerpots brewery and the usual Fullers pints. The interior is heavily influenced by the pub's association with Winchester College and you often see a few toffs and those of a religious persuasion talking loudly but they are just part of the entertainment.... Nice atmosphere and very old English (well, you are in a quintessential old English town...). Rooms are cosy, log fires in the pub, good selection of beers. Sadly, the fact that it is a franchised pub (Fullers) takes away from the experience a bit: sign up for the free wifi and you are bombarded with promotions etc. Staff friendly but... More

We have been here quiet a few times with friends and family and have always found it to be very friendly and welcoming. On this occasion we took our son who is 10 and has been with us a couple of times before we were told that there is no children allowed in the bar area although on the the... More

The Wykeham is one of the best pubs in Winchester in my opinion. It's situated in the old part of town near the college, and is quirky with old school desks and plenty of memorabilia about. Bar is often busy, but staff are friendly and it has a lively feel to it. Food was good and staff were very attentive.... More

Came over from Italy to visit family, were taken to this beautiful old style English pub with a lovely ambiance inside, great food and drink. A real shame that we did not receive the service to match. Very rushed to order our lunch by a waitress who stood over us the whole time, and when we asked for two minutes... More

I know this pub of old and it is a favourite. This time I stayed overnight. A few niggling issues, as it is not cheap and shouldn't really happen. First, my meal. The old problem. I ordered a medium rare rib eye steak with a Bearnaise sauce. This came rare. Fortunately I like rare, but generally don't order it because... More

Having stayed and eaten here several times before, I was so disappointed with our last stay over and meal. The evening meal was less than average. Oily battered fish which was flavour less and mostly batter. House wine that tasted cheap and vinegary....and it was really not cheap! We paid for a deluxe room. First impressions were good until 1.30am... More

This place is a little gem. Great location, open fires in winter, great staff and good food. Gets really busy so best to book to eat in one of the various dining areas. Full of character and one of the best in town.
