Couldn’t fault the roast beef, lots of different vegetables and homemade Yorkshire pudding. It could have been a one off but the young waitresses weren’t on the ball. After being shown to a table we waited and waited for our order to be taken. In...More

A large family meal at lunchtime on a Sunday inside a pub is always a challenge, especially with two young children with us. Sally and her staff made us very welcome in a large bright side room away from the main bar, which could have...More

Perhaps surprisingly, given it appears to be just a pub, truly superb food is available at the fine restaurant contained within this lovely old pub. In addition, the staff are friendly and helpful and readily accommodate kids in pushchairs / high chairs. Well worth a...More

We stopped here mid-afternoon and were delighted with it. It’s quite spacious inside with a comfortable bar area and separate restaurant. The menu was detailed with some varied offerings at average prices (we didn’t actually eat this time but will definitely do so soon). We...More

Visited the Old Barge for Saturday Lunch. Lovely setting and pleasant staff. I chose the Barge burger which was very good. My daughter went for the Portobello mushroom, halloumi & chilli jam burger, which was nice but most defanantly overpriced at £11.95 as it contains...More

Hi Lyn, thanks for your visit and feedback. It’s surprising I know, but quality vegetarian ingredients are often as expensive as quality meat these days- the cost of ingredients in that particular veggie dish are actually slightly more than those in the Barge burger. I’m...More

Lovely old cosy pub sitting next to the river. Menu is varied with plenty of choice for all tastes. Service is pretty quick considering the amount of people in the restaurant, bar and outside with lovely food. Can heartily recommend.

Visited Hertford for the first time recently and had lunch in this pub. It's right near the water and although it is in a quiet corner, it was reasonably busy. Food (sandwich lunch) was really tasty and served by competent, polite waitress. The pub was...More

The Barge is right next to the river and has outdoor seating. The food is very much 'pub grub' and is great value for money. Dogs are also welcome outside :)

I last visited this pub 20 years ago. It was great then and it still is. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and a super location. Good for a pint after work, weekend lunch or dinner, special occasion or Sunday Roast.
