First visit to Thompson since changing from Darcy's. Very impressed by the standard of the cuisine - run by a chef who has clearly been well-trained, and who enjoys producing what he serves. I remarked at the time that every aspect of the dishes had noteworthy flavours, something that I have seldom experienced before.

Loved the setting and the warm welcome, so nice to sit and take your time over the menu with a drink before being seated at the table. Thoroughly enjoyed the email and the friendly staff.

Food was excellent, lots of little extras came out which made the meal a bit special. Pricey £180 with one bottle of wine at £28 and two cocktails at £20 but worth it for a special night out. When the bill was presented I double checked it and found we had been charged for 2 bottles of wine when we... More

I went here with my girlfriend and her parents for Sunday lunch and we were all very impressed. 3 courses for £29 was great value. My starter of honey roast pork and gnocchi and main of pheasant were exquisite!! Both had so much flavour and were presented really well. However, my panna cotta dessert did not really resemble a panna... More

We arrived at this restaurant at 20.15. We were given menus and some sparkling water - £3.90 - and then not attended to until nearly 21.00. And then, only after I complained. The food is nose bleedingly expensive. The special Beef for two was £60.00, fatty and virtually raw. It had to be returned. It was accompanied by cold vegetables. There... More

Celebrated a party with 34 guests in the room upstairs in the restaurant. The Sunday lunch is simply the best in St Albans. All food, delivered hot, was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble and the staff went over and above that expected at a fine dining restaurant. Thoroughly recommended. All arrangements in the lead... More

History: THOMPSON@Darcys the restaurant was formerly a row of four cottages predating the 2nd World War. The gates that flank the outside of the restaurant were produced by the Iron work shop here in 1979. The plot was finally converted to a restaurant in 1983.

Restaurant style: Today the restaurant offers a relaxed, fun and affordable fine dining experience. You will find us a modern, vibrant and busy restaurant, with each room offering a different feel and atmosphere without the pretence of formal dining.

What is Fine Dining? Fine dining usually brings dress code, etiquette and expensive to the forefront of most people’s minds. None of that applies to us at THOMPSON@Darcy’s, although we do have crisp, white tablecloths, at the request of our customers. However, OUR focus is the finest food and ingredients, creativity and taste sensations unique to THOMPSON@Darcy’s. Our service is attentive but not invasive, our staff impeccably mannered and our atmosphere relaxed, all of which contribute to an outstanding culinary experience, so that our guests leave feeling pampered and special.

Menus, Availability & Pricing: Our menus are ever changing, dictated by the seasons; Phil Thompson combines his classic training, culinary style and flavour combinations with his own modern twist.
