On each of two nights (Thursday & Friday) I arrived about 6.30 to find the restaurant pleasantly full and not too noisy. Excellent onion soup , beef bourginon, coqauvin, etc. Pleasant and friendly service. House wines exceptionally good. Lighting a little too intimate for reading...More

We got a 50% off food voucher from a friend. So we went today in the early evening. The ambience is nice, waiters friendly and the food arrived very quickly. The latter is an advantage if you are there with hungry kids. But this was...More

For a consistently good experience, every time, good service, decent food and drinks, not massively expensive, a bit out of town but worth the trip up/down the hill.

Wonderful restaurant in St Albans. The wine selection is surprisingly good for a smaller place. The menu has great variety as well. The Poulet Breton is perfect for a chilly day. The building itself is also amazing. It used to be a greenhouse for a...More

Description
At Cafe Rouge, we fully embrace the pleasure found in delicious, everyday French food and drink, which is why we travel around France to source the best produce, such as our jambon de Bayonne from the Aquitaine region, our pork rilettes from Lille and our Cantal cheese from Auvergne - granted a D.O.P in 1958. We pay meticulous care and attention to the quality of our ingredients, from our sustainably sourced yellow fin tuna in our Nicoise salad to our tender and juicy farm-assured British steaks, or in our new seasonal set menu. We're conveniently situated on the corner of Holywell Hill and Albert Street. Cafe Rouge is the ideal location if you're visiting some of the sights that St Albans has to offer, including St Albans Cathedral (3 minute walk) and the Verulamium Museum with Roman Ruins. Great transport links and close to St Albans Abbey Rail station. We have breakfast, coffee with cake and lunch plates with a cafe feel by day and then a beautiful candle-lit bistro atmosphere by night. If you join us from 7.30pm, the table is yours for the whole evening.
