About
Cafe du Soleil is situated beside the river Stour in Canterbury occupying a former 18th century wool store and is accessed by its own bridge over the river. The building was restored with a grant from English Heritage and showcases the extensive use of reclaimed building material from the 14C city wall. Our cuisine draws influence from Provence in southern France, and from Italy, to create a modern Mediterranean cuisine. The menu changes with the seasons, and much of our food is cooked in our wood burning oven, fed with locally sourced wood from managed forest.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a really lovely lunch. We had a lovely word fired pizza and grilled chicken, prosciutto and cheese burger. Deserts were good - especially liked the basque cheesecake. They had a really good deal of £30 for two courses. Service was really warm and friendly....Recommended.More

Came here twice now and ordered a main and dessert off the set menu both times. The grilled chicken sandwich is amazing, me and my boyfriend both had it tonight and both enjoyed, service is very quick too for both mains and desserts. Very cheap...prices for the quality!More

Made a booking online and it was very easy. Turned up and was greeted very warmly and seated immediately. The menu is simple but every dish is sublime. I had the beef carpaccio to start and the Hake for a main. Every was fresh, quick,...well balanced and cooked perfectly. Never had a bad experience here and is very good value for the food and service that you get. PerfectionMore

We visited Canterbury for a one night stay and wanted to visit a local restaurant in the area. Cafe du Soleil did not disappoint. The drinks, starters and mains were incredible!!! The staff were also extremely accommodating and friendly. The restaurant setting is very cosy...with candles. A great experience and setting for an evening meal. A restaurant to remember and one we will definitely return to!More

Good food, friendly service. Nice find when visiting Canterbury, it was quiet being mid week early Jan ( even Wetherspoons was dead) Delicious food, had difficulty choosing tbh , it all looked delicious . Lovely old mill house (?) on the river, with old stone/...wood interior. Take a cushion as the seats are low( unless you are tall)More

Wow. What an unexpected surprise. We went for something to eat for our friends birthday. Service was excellent and prompt, Atmosphere was friendly and informal. I especially enjoyed the steak that was cooked to perfection and so tender. The garlic focaccia was a delight if...a little large for one as a starter but with the help of a very palatable Pinot Grigio I managed to polish off the lot. All four of us were very impressed and will definitely be returning. Thanks to all at Cafe du Soleil for a great experience.More

Visited here as me and my partner were in Canterbury celebrating our engagement and taking the ring back to the jewellers in-between Christmas. Tried booking online but there were no spaces! I rang the restaurant a couple of times (must of been busy) and luckily...someone answered and they had a table at 2.15pm so definitely call rather than rely on the booking system online! I love this restaurant its so clean and modern, the staff are always so friendly and the food well delicious! Well worth a visit!More

A good menu with a good selection of dishes. I had the brisket, nicely garnised which was accompanied by macaroni cheese. These was a first class dish although a little salt for my taste. I then had the cheese which again was spot on. The...rest of the party, 4 adults (in all) and 2 children all enjoyed the meal. The food service person was accomplished and the food was quickly presented. However; it was a rainy, windy day. The table was booked for 12 noon and 2 of us arrived at about 11-50 am a little before the other 4. We were told that "we don't open till 12" and so were turned away into the rain. I never play the age card but both of us are into our 70s and standing in the weather conditions, although there was some sort of gazebo outside but as the rain was horizontal this was of little comfort. If I was a professional I would 1)have asked have a table booked 2) invited you to your table and said that we would be with you in 10 or so minutes as the kitchen is quite ready 3) if you hadn't booked, and there was space, I would have then reverted to 2) Remember: you tell more people if you have had a bad experience than when you have had a good one.More
