Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This has to be the warmest & most welcoming pub in the City. We visit Canterbury every 6 months & always visit the Parrot. Beer is always well kept & there is a very good wine selection. Food is better than pub grub always beautifully...presented & served piping hot, again the wine list is excellent too. Francis & his team have a lovely friendly pub & thank you for always making us so welcome Chrissie & ReggieMore

This is an excellent traditional style pub. The food, service and ambience were exceptional. I perfect place for a chilled and relaxed lunch, thank you Francis for your great hospitality. Crab Linguine was the best I have ever had.

Recently celebrated a family birthday here. Thirteen for lunch on a busy Sunday. Some had traditional roasts, others had alternatives including stone bass, steak & ale pie and burgers. The quality of the food was excellent and the service was faultless.....nothing was too much trouble....It made a special occasion even more special.More

The Parrot has always been our favourite pub. We have enjoyed there in the past several lunches, dinners and after work drinks on many occasions. We even had several Christmas Day lunches there as a couple 3 years in an row and last year with...family too. Never disappointed. So when one of our daughters decided to get married at the registry office just round the corner, we straight away suggested having the wedding lunch there. The bride and groom visited the Parrot and loved it straight away so we booked it. The staff at the Parrot were really helpful and accommodating during the booking process. They went the extra mile setting up the tables on the first floor where the medieval architecture of the pub is at its best. They decorated the area and the decor made for beautiful photos during the wedding lunch. The menu was exquisite and the wine list was sublime. Everyone was very attentive to our needs during the 3 hours we were there and accommodated us with last minute requests. Bravo to Chef for the quality and selection of the dishes served and the staff for all their hard work. We were made to feel special and we know that this is down to the quality of the staff, their ethos and professionalism delivering a high quality experience for any time we went there, be it a couple of drinks, lunch on the go or indeed our daughter’s special day.More

We have eaten in a number of Shepherd Neame pubs across the years, and while we have always had good food, it has never been exceptional. The Parrot certainly breaks this mould. A traditional and quiet pub slightly away from the city centre, we had...one of our best pub meals in a long time. As we were on a bit of a tight deadline to get to the theatre, we only managed to partake in a Main Course, so will need to plan a re-visit as the rest of the menu looked fabulous. My choice was the Stone Bass Fillet – a criminally under-rated fish rarely seen on menus in my opinion. This firm meaty fish was cooked to perfection and served simply alongside new potatoes, green beans and samphire, accompanied with a shrimp butter and a decadent lobster sauce. The other half’s fish and chips would have been enough to feed two people and again perfectly cooked with a light and crispy batter. They had good selection of beers and gins, and it seemed like an ideal place to hunker down in on a cold, wintery Sunday afternoon. We will definitely returnMore

What an excellent meal and outstanding service we had for lunch. Beautiful atmosphere in this historical pub . Do not hesitate to visit for a drink, meal or both, when you visit Canterbury.

I was here with family whilst staying in Canterbury. Upon arrival the pub seemed nice inside, although was disapointed to see a candle in the fireplace than an actual fire. The temperature inside was quite chilly which also didn't help. There wasn't much atmosphere inside...either. The food choice was ok, but nothing outstanding, with limited choices on the menu. One of our party who had the prawn cocktail thought it was disapointing as the prawns, still cold, clearly had just come out the freezer. Equally the vietanese chicken wings were ok, but nothing special considering the price for both. Mains generally were just average and could have been doing with having it hotter. The best bit was probably the apple and blackberry crumble which was a good size and enjoyable. Overall probably a 6/10.More

After a good walk and boat trip around Canterbury a recommendation was made for us to go for a meal at the oldest pub in Canterbury . A five minute walk from the centre led us to the pub where we were served by an...efficient manager Francis There was a courtyard at the rear of the premises but we stayed indoors to experience the authenticity of the pub Food was good we chose to share a rack of ribs but there was only nine i had five and my partner four !! Which didnt go well !! Suggest ten ribs would be better than nine . Booking recommended. Would visit againMore

We booked for a friends birthday meal after looking at various restaurants during our stay and loved the history of The Parrot. I can honestly say that the service, food and ambiance was amazing! As a group of dove we pretty much chose different starters...and mains and all were beautifully presented and tasty. The birthday girl was treated so spectacularly by the staff it made her evening! I would recommend and go back in a heartbeat.More

The food was the worst I've had in a long time. I went for the vegan option which came as a hurriedly assembled non-chicken fillet, half a plate of tinned sweetcorn and a few kidney beans. No dressing. The last time we came the pub...offered a tasty Buddha bowl but that has been discontinued. My husband had sausage and mash. The sausages were pale and the mash watery. Likely microwaved. All in all unpalatable and expensive. We did complain.More

We had a really good lunch here on Mother's Day (be sure to book if you want to eat here on a special occasion as it was a very popular venue). Due to the age of the building, the upper floor does slope slightly but...it was amazing to be sitting among the rafters and feel the history. Food was really tasty and service friendly. We'd be happy to go back.More

Booked this last minute for a Sunday dinner whilst visiting family. Given our reservation was 3.30 wasn't sure there would be any roasts left - they advise they offer them until they are out! But we were not disappointed. Two of us had the beef...roast. The meat was plentiful and delicious; and the vegetables cooker perfectly. Inevitably, the roasties and yorkshire pudding were a little disappointing but to be expected as they had inevitably been cooked earlier. Others choices of burgers and fish, and then a variety of desserts, were all really tasty and good value. There were plenty of staff and they were attentive without being intrusive. We will definitely be back and I would recommend to anyone wanting a tasty meal in comfortable surroundings.More
