As a local resident I visit The Parrot weekly - not always to eat - but make no apology for writing another review! Over the festive period we ate Sunday lunch with friends and lunch on New Year’s Day just as a couple. Sunday lunch was as good as always...we all ordered roast lamb which was very tender and well supported by plenty of veg, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, gravy and mint sauce. Today’s lunch of herbed chicken and beef & onion pie was equally good....especially the veg, mange touts/ French beans and carrots perfectly cooked - still with a bite but thankfully not reduced to mush!! Despite being really busy both days ( we had booked ) the service was excellent and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Lots of visitors to the city over the Christmas period whom the staff tried hard to accommodate but my best advice for those coming to the city is to do some research & book in advance if you don’t want to be disappointed.

We visited The Parrot on Sunday 31st October for lunch. We had pre- booked (although probably not necessary) because we wanted a Sunday lunch but wanted to eat later in the day, we arrived at 3.35pm . From start to finish the service we received was excellent. A fine selection of beers to start with then we were shown to our table upstairs. We had 3 x Roast Beef ( a huge amount of meat on each plate) , steak pie, burger (he fancied a change as he always has a roast at home on a Sunday) and the pork belly. The member of the party who had the Pork Belly ate the last bit of his meal really slowly as he didn't want it to end. Our drinks were replenished on a regular basis without us having to look for staff to do so. Excellent lunch - thank you very much

Great building, full of character and serving excellent food. Called in advance to book a table as they have limited space inside & out but luckily managed to get a table. All of the food was hot, tasty and well presented and was also reasonably priced.

I had high expectations of our meal on Bank holiday Monday (last day of the ‘eat out to help out’) which were unfortunately dashed. The initial Welcome and customer service was good. We ordered 2 x schnitzels 1x burger, 1 x Vegan falafel and 1 x tortellini. The tortellini was tasty but tiny, the vegan ‘poke’ was bland and the schnitzels were tough. Also we were served 4 meals and then waited a good 10 minutes for the final meal to turn up. We did get one apology for the delay but we had to start as our meals were going cold. We were 2 thirds through before the final meal turned up. I thought they might offer a free dessert or something to apologise but nothing was offered. 4 desserts of sticky toffee pudding were tasty but didn’t make up for our already jaded meal. I felt awkward about arguing the cost as of course we had £50 off anyway and I know full well the restaurants are having a hard time. I didn’t want to appear ungrateful but didn’t feel we received a good experience. I would not go back.

I visited for Sunday lunch with a friend on November 21. The pub itself is lovely and cosy - the perfect spot for a roast on a grey Autumn day. The staff were also really lovely. I was however disappointed with the food. I booked the Parrot as I'd heard great things about its Sunday roast. I ordered the beef, which was nicely cooked but tasted a bit gamey and was served in the most massive portion I've seen in a while. (I have a good appetite and was hungry, but it really was masses and I only made it through about half of it). My friend is veggie so ordered the nut roast - the veggie option. Bizarrely however it was made primarily of rice so it resembled a kind of rice loaf, with very few nuts to be seen. She left most of it. It seems odd that it was advertised on the menu as a nut roast and the rice aspect wasn't mentioned. On the side there was a little bowl of vegetables to share, containing two tiny cauliflower florets, what looked like a teaspoon of red cabbage, a couple of tiny carrot batons and, strangely, sugarsnap peas. The veg bowl was however, bizarrely, mostly made up of boiled potatoes. This seemed strange, as my friend's rice loaf and my mass of roast beef was already served with Yorkshire pudding and lots of roast potatoes, so we didn't even touch the boiled potatoes. All round quite a strange meal - not the worst roast I've had but I was pretty disappointed. I would absolutely have said something when paying, but I was treating my friend to lunch for her birthday and didn't want to make a fuss.

Met wit a group of friends recently in the Parrot. It was a Tuesday evening so pretty quiet. Staff were friendly, overall atmosphere was ok, but food overall was disappointing...tasted like everything was frozen then microwaved, portions were small, fish and chips probably represented the best value. Will not return, Wetherspoon's quality at twice the price. Sad really.

Me and my wife were gifted a meal at The Parrot for our wedding and it did not disappoint. We both had soup for starters which was wonderful and the sour dough bread went so well with the soup. For mains we had burgers which were brilliant. Nice thick chips too. My wife had the cheesecake for pudding and I had the sweet platter. Both were exceptional. Would 100% recommend going here whether it be for lunch or dinner. Will certainly be going back.

One of my favourite pastimes....Sunday lunch at The Parrot. Even though there is a scaled down lunch menu, alongside the full main menu, due to Covid restrictions it didn't detract the experience. My roast beef was succulent and tender, the roast potatoes crisp & fluffy inside, light Yorkshire puddings accompanied by lovely fresh vegetables including cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, greens and a butternut squash/ sweet potato puree. Service is always excellent- efficient, friendly & welcoming whilst ensuring all covid protocols are followed. Not the weather for al fresco dining, but the garden is a welcome outdoor space when the sun is shining.

2nd time we have eaten here and after our last visit expectations were high. Sadly they were not met. Staff and service were brilliant, but the food was a real let down. Nowhere near what anyone would expect of a traditional pub style Sunday lunch, in fact it felt, tasted and looked more like a school dinner. We won't be rushing back and with so many other eating options in the area it feels like they need to up their game.

Met our daughter’s intended’s parents at The Parrot for lunch as they were visiting Canterbury. Such a lovely warm welcome from Francis and Liam. Only been here once before but loved it then and thought it worth a try for lunch. Lovely Chilean merlot - Francis “forced” me to have a large glass (he didn’t have to force me that much to be honest!). Husband and Eve had fish and chips - regular size which was ample, and small size which was still a generous portion. Nigel and I had the sea bass with mangetout, new potatoes and a white wine and chorizo sauce which was a fair sized fillet of sea bass. Really delicious! Black currant delice for pudding really hit the spot as did the cookies and cream cheesecake - to be honest I preferred the strawberries and clotted cream cheesecake I’d had previously). Lovely convivial surroundings, far from the madding crowd but minutes from the centre of town. The most beautiful old building and staffed by wonderfully friendly, efficient staff. Francis even gave husband a sample of the autumn ale which was very tasty. Such a brilliant place. Thank you Francis and Liam you looked after us do well. We can’t wait to return!!

Visited for a family member’s birthday meal and was not disappointed in the slightest- I was smart and opted out of a starter so I could finish the lush steak I ordered for main- the starters a very generous portion. Service was impeccable, large array of drinks choices, although would be cool if they had some cocktails too! They even allowed some birthday requests for special lit shots which made the birthday girl very happy. Overall very accommodating and absolutely gorgeous scenery outside and inside

Booked this last minute for a Sunday dinner whilst visiting family. Given our reservation was 3.30 wasn't sure there would be any roasts left - they advise they offer them until they are out! But we were not disappointed. Two of us had the beef roast. The meat was plentiful and delicious; and the vegetables cooker perfectly. Inevitably, the roasties and yorkshire pudding were a little disappointing but to be expected as they had inevitably been cooked earlier. Others choices of burgers and fish, and then a variety of desserts, were all really tasty and good value. There were plenty of staff and they were attentive without being intrusive. We will definitely be back and I would recommend to anyone wanting a tasty meal in comfortable surroundings.

Very disappointing, poor communication from entering the establishment, excuses made for being busy and having to wait for pre booked table . If someone had just approached us and explained that the service was running late that would have sufficed , however , NO , heads down and ignored . The food was not in any way interesting or spectacular ,chips cold , over salted and over cooked . Atmosphere not so great either , I have been in there before for a drink and found the bar staff quite surely and indifferent . Honestly for a drink and despite the very different environment Wetherspoons pubs have really lovely helpful and polite staff , clearly there is a good training programme , I found this to immensely lacking in The Parrott . I will not be returning to this establishment.

Went there for drinks on a Saturday afternoon. Staff were really friendly and attentive, observing all the COVID safe rules. Food was delicious, drinks were great and the staff ensured our glasses were never empty for long. Will be back soon.

Enjoyed a plesant dinner here the other evening. Pub was quiet, staff pleasant an atmosphere relaxed, but this was shattered by group of noisy troublemaker youths who sauntered in and sat down near us, before pulling out their own drinks and snacks - not one drink ordered between them! Three black guys, a white woman and lanky guy all from London, supposedly 'students'. Five minutes passed then ten as they effed and blinded, playing their phones loudly. They were clocked by staff who did nothing, despite this being a supposed gastro pub with PAYING customers. We complained but decided to leave as they still weren't ejected. I won't be coming back.
