Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The ambience of the restaurant is really cute. However the food was mediocre at best. I had a veggie burger which clearly was brought out of the freezer and heated up. The bun was dry and they did nothing to make it a juicy, delectable...meal. I was informed they were out of fries, so I got potatoes on the side instead. Again, boring and dry. The sticky toffee pudding was the worst I had tried in England sorry to say. Just a heads up for anyone looking for a great meal, this isn’t the place to go.More

Popped in for lunch on one of the hottest days of the year. Sat in a lovely shady courtyard and enjoyed really tasty food. The menu was varied and my fish and chips (not very adventurous, I know, but I have dietary limitations at the...moment) was very good - excellent chips, lovely crispy batter and flaky fish, and the peas tasted fresh and not over-cooked.More

Good welcoming pub. Can’t fault food and drink and staff especially are so pleasant and helpful. the only thing I’ve marked it down on is that it was uncomfortably cold in there at lunchtime when we visited.

Booked into this little pub in the centre of Canterbury for lunch after being very happy with a previous visit....yet again it didn't disappoint!! Cheese and bacon burger and an open chicken satay sandwich with a side of chips were ordered and both throughly enjoyed....Portions are very generous, to be honest, we didn't need the extra chips but they were still very very nice. Staff were very friendly and attentive even when the pub became busy over the lunchtime period, the Manager Christina suggested a lovely white wine which was delicious. This little gem is fast becoming my favourite place to visit when in Canterbury.More

Went there with my family at the end of a 6 day trip to England. Honestly the nicest service by far. The food was delicious and the service was fast. Cosy atmosphere and a little backyard dining area to boot.

The staff are very friendly and the pub mixes traditional with modern and the menu is varied. The cheeseburgers were huge and tasty but a touch dry. The fish and chips however, were disappointing - the breading was soggy and greasy - not at all...a pleasant dining experience.More

Wanted somewhere to go last minute for a meal out with my partner, not being from Canterbury we weren't sure where to go...Although it's a small pub from the outside and not on the main highstreet it is well worth finding. Spoke to the manager...Cristina and she was amazing, really friendly and fitted us in with no problems at all. The pub was busy, the atmosphere was great and the staff really made us feel welcome. Christina came over personally to ensure we were happy with everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and would definitely recommend to friends, we will be back.More

everything that has been written previously about the Shakespeare experience I would actually agree with though on the 20th of December I was very shocked to discover that amid a pandemic and in a University city there was no hand soap in the mens loo's!...Shocking really and definitely not what I expected from a Shepherd neame pub!More

A great little pub with oodles of atmosphere. Great beer choice and friendly staff. We popped in for a meal but rather than cross out what wasn’t available on the once only menus we were left to build our expectations which were dashed when we...came to order, we nearly walked out. However the nice barman enthused enough for us to stay. The chef is not afraid to use Chili but it is in a way that you can put it to one side if you don’t like it. We had three small plates which were imaginative although the tandoori cauliflower seemed odd as it was cold, but definitely delicious. The black & blue burger is probably one of the best burger I’ve ever had. Also treat yourself to the loaded fries your mouth will love them!More

Amazing pub. We stumbled across while walking down the lanes on our day trip to Canterbury. Cosy but lively at the same time, we had a really nice time. Bartenders were super friendly and service was quick! Highly recommend

We bought a drink at the pub next door (name escapes me). We sat at a table that as it turned out was part of The Shakespeare and we’re told in no uncertain terms by an aggressive little bar manager that we had too move...immediately, like you would think the preservation of the world depended on it. As a result, we didn’t go in this pub and never will.More
