Just fancied a pint and a snack near Castle Street and tried this pub on a cold Wednesday lunchtime. Received a lovely warm welcome from Kevin and Caroline behind the bar - the owners as it happened. Unfortunately their chef had just moved on so...no fish and chips or pie/gravy but we decided to try their Pides which are, apparently, a Turkish filled flatbread. We chose a cosy window seat. The decor is calming and combines modern with traditional. Loved the Shepherd Neame art on the walls and the cosy ticking of the lovely old mantel clock. Toilets were sparkling and fresh. There is also a very generous sized garden with lots of tables - nice touch with Hendricks gin bottles as candle holders. A lovely large glass of Merlot and a nice pint and two Pides later, we had a nice chat with owner Kevin. The pides were very tasty, imagine a lighter, crispier pizza - we had the Iberian (chorizo) and the minced steak. They could probably do with being priced lower though. Lovely comfortable pub in a pretty part of Canterbury backing onto Dane John Gardens - would definitely visit again. There are special evenings, for example, serving Caribbean food. Thank you for a very pleasant Wednesday lunch break, Kevin and Caroline and thank you Christine for showing me the garden!More
