The restaurant is small, intimate and the atmosphere is lovely for a couple or a small group to enjoy hearty and traditional Italian food. You will find fantastic bowels of pasta and plates of grilled meats but there is no pizza in sight. The night started a little disappointingly as our reserved table was not ready for our 19:30 reservation time and we had to sit at the bar for 10 minutes perusing over the menu. This, however, was forgiven by the end of the meal as all the servers were very attentive throughout the meal. The food here is lovely, great Italian flavours and a well l thought out menu that suits different dietary requirements. We had the bruschetta to start with the deep-fried pizza dough, both were full of flavour and well presented. For mains, we had the duck breast with forest fruit sauce which was super tasty however slightly tough and chewy, my one complaint about the food. We also had the tuna steak on a white bean puree which was cooked perfectly pink in the middle just how I like it. The star of the show had to be the dessert, the vanilla pannacotta with summer fruit coulis and amaretti crumble was to die for and really rounded the meal off perfectly. What's more, if you like a tipple with dinner the house red was only £13.95 and paired perfectly with everything that we ordered. If you are in canterbury and looking for a place to eat, I would definitely recommend checking this place out.

We booked this restaurant a bit last minute and were offered 4 seats at the Bar as it was fully booked. Best decision we ever made. We had a great family time sitting at the bar and tasting great dishes from the menu. Our seafood linguine were very good. My daughter loved her little pizza. And we loved their desserts too. This was really a great find and we understand why this restaurant is very popular: people are happy whether at the kitchen at the bar or serving people. We will come back again on our next trip to Canterbury for sure.

What an excellent restaurant, fantastic service, superb food and a lovely ambiance. The best Italian meal we’ve ever eaten and that includes eating in Limone Sul Garda on a holiday a few years ago now. A “master class” on how to serve great food, combined with fabulous service, at a very affordable price. Thank you do much.

Lovely Italian restaurant. The food were delicious I had the fish stew which was one of best I have ever had and my partner has the wild boar Ragu which he has not stopped talking about. The service was excellent and the desert was tasty my partner has the cheese board. Two very small suggestions instead of a small wet wipe a finger bowl would have been much better. The serving of the cheese board was disappointing for the price as the three cheeses provided were tiny mouthfuls each cheese my husband thought was delicious but having had previous cheese boards thought there should be more cheese. Most of the board had more bread, pizza dough and bread sticks than necessary for the amount of cheese given. This is not a sharing board. Just to iterate the food and service was exceptional

We were on a short break in Canterbury and wanted somewhere nice for dinner, I had seen Il Posticino well rated and it was also on a list of recommended places in our hotel so I gave them a call and booked a table for that evening. We were able to walk to Il Posticino from our hotel but that would be the same for almost anywhere in Canterbury. Downstairs at Il Posticino there is a nice looking bar and the kitchen but we went straight upstairs to the dining room, a nice room with about ten tables. We received a really warm welcome. Dinner was absolutely delicious and prepared to order and the dessert I had was one of the best I've ever had. There was a sensible selection of wines too. All said a really good experience.

We visited here as a family of four and even though we arrived 20 minutes early for our booking we were promptly seated. Throughout our whole visit we could not fault the service, the wait staff were so polite, friendly and attentive. We shared a couple of portions of the focaccia with melted cheese, divine! All our mains arrived at the same time and piping hot. The fillet steak was amazing, as was the chicken. The only downside was the vegetarian pasta dish which was slightly disappointing. Overall a lovely visit, we will definitely be returning.

We came for lunch. It was a very hot day so it was nice to have a restaurant with ac! Our waiters we’re prompt and very friendly. There was a wide array and of drinks to choose from (very authentic aperol spritz!, tasted like the ones we had in Naples!). To start with we all shared the courgette parcels, fried mixed vegetables and the garlic and mozzarella focaccia which were all sublime, perfectly cooked and piping hot! The presentation on all courses was consistently tidy and fancy! Our table was cleared and the next course was served in good time. I had the squid ink pasta with squid ragu and the rest of my family had the pork ragu tagliatelle, wild boar tortelli and a little pizza, which was made vegetarian for my grandmother! The pasta was all very fresh and cooked perfectly and the sauces were seasoned appropriately. It was all amazing. The desserts were absolutely amazing! We essentially ordered one of each: hazelnut semi Fredo, chocolate mousse, cappuccino panna cotta, raspberry sorbet and a dessert arancini which was very unique! All delicious and tasted homemade. The prices were very fair and the atmosphere and service was outstanding! It’s a real shame we don’t live locally otherwise we would definitely be coming more often!

My husband and I ate here last night and the meal was stunning. We both had tuna tartare for starters. I wasn’t sure how the fruit would work with this, but it was delicious and perfectly seasoned. We then both followed up with the wild boar tortellini - rich, hearty and perfectly done. Finally, I squeezed in the semi frozen pudding (delicious!) whilst my husband had the dessert arancini. I’m not a fan of ricotta so didn’t particularly like it but my husband found it delicious! Portions were a sensible size - we were both full when we left and the price point was very good considering quality of the food. If we’re ever back in Canterbury we’ll return!

We are here a couple of years back and had a great experience all round. We came back and the menu had changed quite considerably. They had a smaller menu and some items weren’t available but ordered fillet which was supposed to be medium rare but was served well done. I don’t write reviews and never have but want to share the experience as they offered to take both dishes away and replace, but it was still tasty, with good ingredients and we still enjoyed it. We aren’t fussy so said it was fine and ate it but when it came to the bill they had taken both dishes off the bill. I was more than happy to pay it but they refused which I found was a real mark on a good, well run business where the customer is clearly important. Although we didn’t have the starter we wanted and the steak overcooked, the food was still clearly great quality and service second to none. I’d recommend and we will be back without a doubt.

The staff here are lovely and the restaurant itself is small and welcoming inside. We really enjoyed our food and would definitely come back. We were disappointed not to be able to try the wild boar pasta dish, but my steak was cooked very well and the staff were accommodating to split a pasta dish for my friend and I to both try. I would recommend this place.

My husband and I went to Il Posticino for dinner. We were happy to note that the staff always wore the mask correctly, that the tables were spaced and that after each customer the tables and chairs were disinfected. Another important thing, we noticed that the tables are set only after the customer has sat down at the table. This prevents the cutlery from being exposed to bacteria and viruses. But here about the dinner. The staff (very kind) came to take the order and immediately brought a drink. Sterters: tuna tartare and forest fruits, grille courgettes and ricotta cheese. Exceptional. Then we took pasta: pappardelle with rich pork and fennel seeds ragu, sea bass, potato filled ravioli with bisque clams and dill. When I tasted the pappardelle I was moved, they reminded me how my grandmother made them. The sea bass stuffed ravioli ware yummy. Finally a smart and good way to use fish. I forgot, all accompanied by excellent handmade rosemary focaccia and a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine glass. We also took the desserts of course: raspberry sorbet for me and coppuccino flavoured panna cotta and amretti my husband who also allowed himself a real espresso. Everyting was absolutely delicious and for and excellent value for money. We left very satisfied but also a little sad. In the midlands (where we live) we don't have a real good Italian restaurant like Il Posticino.

Il Posticino welcomes you with a warm embrace as soon as you enter the entrance door. This is just the First taste of Italy you can experience but The Posticino will surprise you moment after moment. The staff is kind and the service Is professional and fast. They are keen on describing all the different plates created by the fantasy of the Chef so that your food experience starts much earlier than when the food effectively arrives at your table. I have tried both the meat and fish menus and I think they are both excellent. I strongly recommend il Posticino as one of the best experiences of Italian food you can have here in Kent.

We had a beautiful meal here. The food was delicious, well cooked and tastefully presented. A carafe of the house red wine went well with the food. Service was efficient and friendly as you would expect. The waiter recommended visiting Botany Bay and Joss Bay as 2 sandy beaches worth visiting. We took his advice and had a great time. The atmosphere is busy as the room fills up and everyone is enjoying their meals. A great night out.

While staying in Canterbury, my wife and I enjoyed a very nice dinner at Il Posticino. The restaurant serves authentic Italian cuisine at reasonable prices in a casual and comfortable dining room. We started our meal with some focaccia topped with rosemary and sea salt. Next, my wife enjoyed the pappardelle with a wild boar ragu and I had the pork medallions served with plums in a rich brown sauce, sauted swiss chard and a potato croquette. The overall dinner was wonderful; but, we did not think that it quite earned a five star rating as the seasoning and temperatures were slightly off on some of the dishes. On the whole, though, I would definitely recommend Il Posticino .

We visited Il Posticino for a leisurely Friday Lunch time treat and it was 100% successful. The service was attentive but not overpowering. The food was delicious with a mix of subtle flavours in each dish and the Italian cheeseboard selection was just right. We ate a la carte as it was a treat but the lunch time menu had selections which seemed to be mostly taken from the a la carte menu and looked very good value. We will be happy to return for another meal in the future.
