Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An old historic pub with a limited menu but we couldn't fault the piping hot food. The staff were polite and friendly and we didn't have to wait long before the food arrived. Toilet facilities a bit below par but it is an old building!...You can be lucky to get the odd free parking place nearby. A large 'retail' carpark near the pub is free for the first hour and relatively cheap thereafter but you must get a ticket.More

My cousin and I visited here last Thursday, early evening. What a lovely time we had. I loved the quirky feel of the pub and it was very interesting to read the history and why the walls appeared so unusual. The team were really friendly...and there was a nice buzz about the place. We decided to eat and were certainly not disappointed. A small but good variety on the menu to choose from and great to see local produce used where possible. The food was hot, very tasty and plentiful. It’s possibly the best beef stroganoff I have ever tasted - is chef allowed to share the recipe please? 😊 Thank you for making us feel welcome on our first visit. If we didn’t live nearly 3 hours away, I’m sure we would be visiting more often.More

I went to a funeral/ wake . We came to the white horse pub and got told from the workers about coming into the white horse pub previously having to much to drink and advised that not to do again! But I do drink in...the white horse and have had no issues with anyone? So on this occasion with a old friend of mine having to go to the funeral and then I went to have a drink for his wake after funeral. And got told not to drink ? I’m confused as a pub is serving drinks? So why say not to drink ! Very confused staffMore

We made a last minute reservation at the White Horse and they were able to accommodate us. Our meal was fantastic and they have the best chips we had during our two week vacation in England!

The menu have us plenty to choose from. My friend and I both had Scampi, chips and all the trimmings and it was perfect. The scampi had a beautiful flavour and the chips were just as they should be. A small side salad accompanied the...dish which finished it off nicely. The helpings were generous and we didn’t have to wait long for our meal. We chose gypsy tart for dessert and, again, we couldn’t fault it. The proprietor was very pleasant, as was the young lady who served us. One slight niggle was that some lads at the bar behind us were a little noisy, which meant it was difficult to hear our conversation on occasion, but as the bar is where the tables are, I suppose we must expect that. Anyway, it didn’t spoil our evening to any great extent but would have been better had they not been there. (Without them, the rating would have been 5). That said, we would certainly go back again.More

We had dinner here the night before we cruised to Iceland. The food and atmosphere was amazing! We made reservations and were seated early when we arrived. We are so glad we are here, it was a great way to start our vacation. If we...cruise out of Dover again we will definitely go back.More

For an authentic British Pub with homemade British fare you must try the White Horse in Dover. It’s a quaint pub with much character. The building dates back to 1365! Dave and Nikki the proprietors, are lovely people. They chatted with us after the meal....Dave is also the chef. For dessert we had Dave’s Gypsy Tart which we understand is an old family secret recipe. It was delicious. For dinner we had the fish and chips which was freshly caught cod from the area. It was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had! My husband has the curried chicken and was great also. There is something for everyone’s dietary preferences. This pub gets an A+ from us.More

Absolutely fantastic experience. Pub was heavy with patrons BUT the staff, lady behind the bar(wife of chief), Sam & Harrison weren’t flustered @ provided great service. Pub manager Stuart ran a terrific bar & kept us amused with wit & hood banter that we Ozies...understood. Everything GOOD with this Pub, booze, food & companionship fantastic. Plated meals much too large for both of us. Thanks Stuart shame we’ll never get a chance to return.More

What an amazing pub! We arrived as soon as the dinner rush was starting without a reservation and initially we were told there were no tables for a long while. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some amazing beers and then the bar tender...told us she could squeeze us into a table in the back. The building is lovely and situated next to the site of a former church. The interior decor is cozy and full of character. Our server Stewart was hilarious, fast, and made excellent recommendations for food. The fish and chips were superb. Absolutely fresh and perfect. The chicken curry was so delicious and wasn’t too strong. The patio is wonderful to take in sunshine while drinking a beer. We will certainly visit again next time we are in Dover!More

Dude made gluten free fish and chips on the fly for me and my daughter. Incredible!...Everything the rest of the party had was loved! You have to go here if in Dover! Woo!!! Plus I have never been a patron of a place founded in the 1500’s! How cool is that!!! Can’t wait to come back. Thanks White Horse!More

The pub doesn’t have its own car park but it doesn’t need to. There are car parks very close to it, including one in a shopping precinct. As for the sofas, I have no idea. We stayed at the table to chat and then went home... More
