Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Me and my husband held our wedding after party in the function room at Grub & Liquor on Saturday. In terms of weddings we had a pretty low budget so when searching for a venue we were looking for somewhere reasonably priced that would feed...us, serve cocktails, have space for dancing and a DJ and allow us to decorate and fill the place with colour. We did all of these things and more in the function room at Grub & Liquor and we couldn’t be more grateful to the manager Kayleigh and her team. Kayleigh was so accommodating from the start and on the day when we had to leave the ceremony venue early she rushed in to work (having already been there for hours and popping home for a tea) to make sure the space was ready for us and to open bottles of bubbly. Liam was awesome behind the bar, the waitresses were lovely and the chef managed to feed 60 of us. Our guests had a great time, particularly my 5 year old nephew who took a shine to Kayleigh and led her onto the dance floor. A brilliant place to party for all ages! Thank you so much.More

I used to come all the time to grub and liquor. But the last few times i have visited has been a stark difference to what it was like a year or so ago. The place used to be known for its cocktails, they dont...taste like they used to and slow service. Food is okay. but no one really seems to eat and its just a drinks venue. The vibe isnt the same, not as busy and doesnt feel as lively. Not sure whats happend or whats caused. I tried calling to book, but its close for most of the week! Sad times..More

I’ve been to grub & liquor so many times and usually had a really enjoyable experience but this time was just multiple let downs. Firstly, I had a table booked for 6:15 and we planned to have dinner but on arrival we were told they...were not serving food at all due to having two Christmas tables. It’s obviously reasonable to not serve food to prioritise Christmas bookings but I feel it would have been fair to contact me beforehand to check my booking wasn’t for food, as it left all of us disappointed and hungry. We left to go find elsewhere to eat but told the staff we’d be back as we wanted to see what the DJ was like they have on a Friday. We had no luck finding food elsewhere, not surprising on a Friday night. When we got back, we noticed that one of their Christmas tables had not turned up at all, so we asked what happened and felt awful for the staff that they had a large table not show up so short notice. We asked if this meant if we could order food and we were told no, we even offered to pay the same price and have the Christmas meals that were going to waste but the gentleman with glasses almost seemed offended we’d asked, he said the chef was not prepared to do food and would use the food from the no show table elsewhere. At this point we all felt a bit irritated, and in this current climate of uncertainty in the industry you’d think they would have done anything to get some more income in. We only wanted some starters to share! The final nail in the coffin was going to order drinks at the bar (two pints and a sharing cocktail) and being served them all in plastic cups! It was before 9pm, the bar was practically empty and we were basically told it’s policy deal with it or leave. So we left and got a full refund and went elsewhere. To be frank, four responsible adults are not going to sit at a table and drink out of plastic glasses, we weren’t in a night club. I purposely took my couple friends from out of town here because it’s usually such a nice atmosphere and we left asking will we ever bother going back. I actively try to support local businesses especially in this climate but this visit has really put me off.More

£4 for a mouthful of tequila rose, big rip off or completely taken advantage of, the trouble with contact less, either way that's a rip off, apart from that it's a great place, but pricing has put me off returning anytime soon, Shane as I...love this place and don't very often get to venture there, it was a night out with friends for my birthday.More

I was extremely disappointed with everything that grub and liquor offered when I recently visited. My friends had to wait 45 minutes for their drinks, to which the bar staff had forgotten them and proceeded to spend even longer preparing when we had reminded them....Some of the dishes didn't even come out. We were told we would be charged more for a dish we had already paid for. Food was very low quality. Pina coladas tasted foul (pretty sure the milk or the juice had gone off). Asked them to do another but they tasted just as awful.More

I took advantage of the midweek offer of one small plate and a burger with a cocktail for £15.50. I had a small nachos and the BBQ’D chicken burger. The burger and accompanying fries were very tasty and a good portion. The nachos were disappointing,...melted cheese had fused them all together and the guacamole, sour cream, and salsa were low quality. I also had the Tropic Like It’s Hot cocktail which was very nice. Staff were friendly and overall I thought the meal was tasty and good value despite the nachos.More

We booked a table well in advance. We arrived & they put us on a different table because some others had sat at ours. We were cramped. I asked to move in which they did eventually. We waited over an hour for a drink &...then they attempted to overcharge us which resulted in us having to write down exactly what we had etc.More

We booked a table for two for an early Saturday afternoon. When we sat down, the waiter said they would clear our table of the previous guests dirty glasses and food, but never did. 30 mins later we asked another waiter to please remove them,...which they helpfully did. Our first two drinks (a cocktail and a Guinness) took over 45 minutes to arrive after ordering. When other tables asked to order another round of drinks (in advance due to the long wait time) they were told that 'there were already 7 tickets on'. Another table seemed to be waiting for over 45 mins for a single glass of Pimms. We ordered food but received no cutlery, and given the current wait times we just made do without them. We then asked for the bill, we then waited for 20 minutes before another waiter told us to go to the bar (which signage explicitly said not to do). We saw other table around us get comped food and drinks, which seemed unfair as everyome had been waiting a long time. I wouldn't blame the service specifically, as some of them were trying their best with limited resources, but they really shouldn't accept bookings if you can't provide service. It's a shame as I had been really looking forward to my first proper drinks out post-lockdown.More

I went to grub and liquor on Tuesday and we got there at 7 we ordered our drink after 10 minutes and it took an hour for us to receive any drinks. My friend ordered a pint and got it after an hour and ten...minutes. There was one server and one bar tender, they where so lovely and worked their hardest to get everything done. There should have been more staff as it was impossible for them to do everything, I respect them for all of the hard work they did. The manger should have had more staff working as it was worrying to book a table for 2 hours and receive 2 drinksMore

We visited recently and did the £25 bottomless drink package- along with some starters to nibble on. Everythjng was fantastic start to finish, Rory was our waiter and made the whole experience amazing, he was very kind and smiley despite how busy it was. He...made sure we had everything we needed and kept us topped up. My only downside would be the lighting outside (on the top terrace) we did have candles lit which was a nice touch but couldn’t see much. Thanks again and we look forward to coming back in a couple of weeks!More

On the 12th September this year myself and some friends came here to celebrate my birthday. We had the bottomless brunch for £25 each and I must say, AMAZING VALUE. All of the staff were attentive and welcoming. But one member of staff stood out...for us all and his name was Rory. He had told us he hadn’t been working there long, but Rory was so kind and very attentive, always checking on us, seeing if we needed anything. Like he’d been in the industry years! Rory- shout out to you- we are revisiting soon and hope we see you again! Thank you again to the team and a massive thank you to Rory especially! 10/10 highly recommend!More
