I’ve been to grub & liquor so many times and usually had a really enjoyable experience but this time was just multiple let downs. Firstly, I had a table booked for 6:15 and we planned to have dinner but on arrival we were told they...were not serving food at all due to having two Christmas tables. It’s obviously reasonable to not serve food to prioritise Christmas bookings but I feel it would have been fair to contact me beforehand to check my booking wasn’t for food, as it left all of us disappointed and hungry. We left to go find elsewhere to eat but told the staff we’d be back as we wanted to see what the DJ was like they have on a Friday. We had no luck finding food elsewhere, not surprising on a Friday night. When we got back, we noticed that one of their Christmas tables had not turned up at all, so we asked what happened and felt awful for the staff that they had a large table not show up so short notice. We asked if this meant if we could order food and we were told no, we even offered to pay the same price and have the Christmas meals that were going to waste but the gentleman with glasses almost seemed offended we’d asked, he said the chef was not prepared to do food and would use the food from the no show table elsewhere. At this point we all felt a bit irritated, and in this current climate of uncertainty in the industry you’d think they would have done anything to get some more income in. We only wanted some starters to share! The final nail in the coffin was going to order drinks at the bar (two pints and a sharing cocktail) and being served them all in plastic cups! It was before 9pm, the bar was practically empty and we were basically told it’s policy deal with it or leave. So we left and got a full refund and went elsewhere. To be frank, four responsible adults are not going to sit at a table and drink out of plastic glasses, we weren’t in a night club. I purposely took my couple friends from out of town here because it’s usually such a nice atmosphere and we left asking will we ever bother going back. I actively try to support local businesses especially in this climate but this visit has really put me off.More
