Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Enjoyed a delicious Saturday evening dinner in one of the private rooms upstairs. Food was excellent! Service (we were looked after by Edward and Magda) was exemplary!! Second time we have done this during 2023 and both times truly excellent in every respect. Can highly...recommend.More

We had our work's Christmas Lunch there this week. From initial enquiry to the day itself, the service and staff were very helpful. The food was served efficiently and politely and everyone who attended complimented the quality of the food and the table and decoration....It was the perfect location for a large meal and the lovely relaxed atmosphere ensured nobody really wanted to leave when they had to!More

We had a lovely family dinner at The Mount Edgcumbe this weekend in a private upstairs dining room. The pub was warm and beautifully decorated for Christmas. The food on the Christmas set menu was delicious; particular favourites were the roast turkey dinner with much...appreciated generous portions of gravy and the cranberry & apple crumble. The service by Charlotte and Edward was impeccable: they were friendly and welcoming; the food was served promptly with perfect intervals between courses; and they made sure that no one ran out of a drink and we had everything we wanted. Highly recommended - we will definitely be back!More

We arrived at 8.31 p.m. only to be told that the kitchen closed at 8.30 p.m. I was shocked. The waitress said she would go and ask the chef, but the answer came back a firm no! Having given our custom to this establishment over...so many years, I was disappointed to find out that they were prepared to turn us away so easily. We had to go along the road to the Royal Wells Inn - who also said the kitchen closed at 8.30 p.m. but here, the waitress went to ask the chef who said as long as we ordered promptly there was no problem. A very different attitude!More

Well I feel like a parrot to write a similar review again but it has to be done. I booked a table for a business lunch and as always the service was impeccable from the greeting on arrival to the service of drinks and food...to the after service and discretion given by all members of staff while we discussed things. We even had a personal hello from the General Manager!! Valentin Ostafi your front and back of house teams excelled once again for which I applaud you, they do you 100% credit, not just today but on every time I visit. I would not like to mention people as would not want to forget anyone. Well done "Team Edgcumbe"More

Booked a last minute 1 night break. The hotel itself from outside doesn’t do the place justice. Inside is a lovely charming bar/restaurant with a cosy cave area to relax in. We stayed in room 1 which was a superior room with large window and...a roll top bath in the bedroom, well equipped room with a very nice bathroom and powerful shower. There was a small problem with the heating but this was quickly rectified by the manager. We booked the restaurant for dinner as the weather was awful so didn’t want to go out again and so glad we did. The food we ate was amazing, every single course was delicious as was the breakfast the next morning. The owners are building a new outside area which will be complex for next summer so we will definitely return. Takes about 15 mins to walk into the high street and Pantiles area but very steep hills all around. There’s some lovely wooded areas around the hotel too but a bit too wet for winter walks this weekend. If we didn’t live over an hour away we’d be in that restaurant frequently!More

Wow, what a pub. Outstanding service, outstanding food, excellent service, staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive, one even trotted over with a sample of one of their real ales that he thought I might like after chatting about them - I did. Superb range of...drinks, it's comfortable and they even have "the cave," a fantastic, intimate little area with thick, comfy sofas to chill in. Prices were reasonable, and as I say, the food was absolutely superb and brought out quickly. This is honestly one of the best pubs I've ever had the pleasure to visit, I can't really recommed it highly enough!More

We stayed for 2 nights initially attracted because it is built around a cave! However, this up market pub is so good on so many levels; boutique rooms, really good generous portions of food, great bees and staff that genuinely care about their customers and...with a smile on their faces.More
