The pub is very spacious with cosy nooks and a pleasant garden. The menu is quite varied and the food is not overcooked. The service was exemplary with the staff very attentive and exceptionally polite. It is great to find somewhere open all day in...a rural setting. I have no hesitation in returning to this venue.More

Beautiful country pub in the heart of the Kent countryside. Given a very warm welcome and shown to a table in the cosy restaurant. Our drinks order was taken promptly by Sophie . The menu was very varied and very reasonably priced. We opted for...the mixed fish sharing platter to start with - this was beautifully presented , freshly cooked , delicious and huge !!! Our main courses of the Bourbon burger and salmon and prawn tagliatelle were also wonderful , the only downside being the fact that we had no room for dessert !! Maybe next time - because we will certainly visit again. Sophie was very friendly , attentive and very efficient. Keep up the good work everybody !!More

Recommended the Smarden Bell by the big cat sanctuary. Food was excellent and service attentive and friendly. Definitely a good place to stop for a top notch lunch and a pint. Sophie looked after us excellently.

We've eaten at The Bell on several occasions before and I've always enjoyed a Smarden Burger - so, since deciding several weeks ago that we were going to eat more sensibly, my husband and I had foregone our weekly meals out -- and so were...REALLY looking forward to our first meal together out in weeks. We invited another couple to join us and decided on The Bell as we'd never had a bad meal there - hmmm. We were greeted by a waitress announcing what we couldn't have - which included any of the burgers. Well I was ready to leave then, and if we'd been on our own we would have done - but we weren't on our own, so we stuck with it. The gents ordered what turned out to be a VERY disappointing steak each, the other lady had a chicken burger (no good for me as it was coated in breadcrumbs) and I chose the Caeser salad which turned out to be pretty average and was the first Caeser salad I've ever had anywhere with no Parmesan cheese shavings on the top. The final indignity was when our friend asked for mayonnaise and said waitress returned and plonked a 3/4 empty squeezy bottle of Hellmans on the table, which then remained there for the rest of our meal - classy! OK and possibly to be expected in a seaside cafe but ...More

We turned up for our big cat experience at The cat sanctuary up the road. But we were too early and instead we came her from some lunch- that’s my top tip!!! Had a great lunch. The garlic prawns were immense and Sophie was an...excellent hostess. A nice pint of ale too. If in the are, pop in as it’s well worth the visit.More

We called into The Bell on Good Friday and a wonderful welcome awaited us. We had booked the snug as we had our dogs with us. It was just wonderful. Sophie looked after us perfectly. Joining in the banter and having a giggle with us....Service was great. Menu was fabulous. Lots to choose from. I opted for the Brie to start and the lamb shank for main. Too full for a pudding. The food was outstanding. Couldn’t fault it. Will definitely return next time we’re in the area.More

After booking the day before with Sophie, we were greeted with a smile and menus, we chose to sit in the garden as it was such a lovely afternoon. Although one chef down, ordering was prompt and professional, our food came in good time, and...it was delicious! Excellent quality, beautifully cooked, generous portions, what more could you ask for?! Sophie made us feel relaxed and unrushed, was very attentive, we will definitely be back again and spread the word as to what a fab experience we had.More

Having driven past the pub so many times, today was the day we decided to pull in and try it out. Staff and food certainly didn’t disappoint! We were waited on by Sophie who was fantastic and couldn’t do enough to make sure we had...everything we wanted. Then the food orders arrived…well the food portions are huge. Lovely veg, fantastic chips and mains to die for. Plain burger for our 13 year old and she was delighted as it was perfect. Hubby had Suet of the season which went down well. But I was challenged by the sharing platter of prawns! Yes clue was in the name, sharing but I thought nah 12 prawns no problem and judging by most restaurants serving prawns, 12 seemed no problem. Ha,ha, ha! Defeated by 1 remaining prawn. These prawns were some of the thickest, meatiest prawns I’ve seen in a long time! I’m used to massive Mozambican prawns and these didn’t disappoint! They were so fat and juicy! We left the pub completely stuffed! The food was amazing and pricing so very reasonable! Well done people! A true gem of a pub/restaurant you’ve got there!!! Thank you so much!More
