Amazing food and even friendlier service.

Honestly a hidden gem. Huge portions, friendly and welcoming staff and amazing pricing. We both audibly reacted to the size of the portions and the hugeness of the meat calzone (that wasn’t any air!! It was all meat!!) can tell the chef cooks with passion for the food, and for his customers as he’s who took our order! First valentines with my partner well spent. It’s rare to get a meal with sides and a drink, for under £40 and have left overs to take home. Would recommend to anyone, especially if you’re on a budget, take advantage of their lunch menu, will be returning during the week for the 2 for £15 menu.

Great food excellent service

What a surprise discovering a little gem of a restaurant. The menu choice was varied and food cooked to order. Quality of the dishes was fantastic, so well presented and plentiful. Such friendly staff nothing too much trouble for them. We found the place so good we went again the following week and everything thing was just as good. Even the chef came out to have a chat and explain the source of the food and have a little chat with his customers . Nice touch . Cannot recommend Piccolos too much dont want it overrun. Joking really suggest if you are looking for somewhere that has good service excellent food at a good price get yourselves to Piccolo Bistro 👍👍👍👍👍

Birthday celebration.

Visited to celebrate our grandsons birthday with family. Between the nine of us, we had quite a variety of dishes and everybody expressed how nice their food was, and I don't think anybody emptied their plate as the portions were plentiful. Service was good and the staff [ teenagers ] were professional. The only complaint wa, there was a cold draught where I was sat [ good old British weather ]. I would definitely visit again.

Sadly not the best

We were really looking forward to our lunch here after not visiting for a few years. Sadly wasn't as good as we expected. We were sat at a dirty table to begin, despite an empty restaurant. Then not given menus for some time. The waitresses needed lots of training, we had to keep prompting them for things eg drink order, cutlery. One waitress described my garlic mushroom starter as 'soup' and my Husband's very spicy pizza as 'a pizza'. The food was nice although the kids didn't really enjoy anything. The bill was over £100 which included the service charge which I don't like taking off. If it hadn't have been for the very friendly man(possibly the manager) then I think the 12% would have been deducted. I don't think we'll return sadly

We are Piccolo Italian Bistro on Chanterlands Avenue, a seperate restaurant. We believe this review was for a different restaurant as we do not have a service charge on the end of our bill, we also do not have wiatresses working during lunchtimes. DO NOT VISIT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE DIETARY REQUIREMENTS - THE MENU IS MISLEADING

I visited last night with a group of colleagues for a special occasion. It was myself who recommended, having had a few excellent experiences previously and although I had not been for some time i had heard recently it remained very good. We had dietary requirements (x2 vegans and x1 celiac) which the menu indicated would be catered for. We were a group of 15 and were asked to pre-order which was no issue and upon ordering we explicitly stated our dietary requirements twice. Our vegan pizzas arrived with goats cheese on and these had to be exchanged so x2 of our party ate separately to us. The celiac in the party ordered risotto, and when served we double checked it was free of gluten, which was confirmed by the chef via the waiting staff. Half way through the meal it was noticed there was pasta in the risotto. When this was sent back the chef sent a message, via the waiting staff to inform he had drained some pasta over the risotto and ‘it must’ve fell through’. I have no words for how unacceptable this is to have happened and to how flippantly this was responded to. The seriousness of this situation is my colleague is now extremely sick. The waiting staff who was sent to deal with everything was extremely polite and attended to all of our questions timely. However, he was clearly new or needed some training and it made the situation worse for us as we felt sorry for him and didn’t complain as much as we should. Not once was it acknowledged how serious the situation was. We were offered an apology, once again via the waiting staff and we had to request the risotto was removed from our bill, it was not even offered! Furthermore, we observed another member of staff, whom appeared to be the manager, or somebody certainly more senior, attend to other customers politely and with attention. Upon us arriving we were greeted the same. However, further to our complaints and when he attended to our table (to clear glasses etc) he was rude and it was evident via his actions he found us to be the problem for complaining and sending food back. He never spoke one word to us when clearing our table thereafter. Such a shame as those who got the correct meals reported the food was excellent. Speaking for myself my food was extremely well put together and tasted very good, unfortunately I didn’t enjoy it due to the experience we were having. Our response to a situation that should never have happened was an utter disgrace. It was as unacceptable as the mistakes that were made. That’s 15 customers who will never return.

Booked this meal to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, it was the first time we have visited and went on a recommendation. We shared a starter which was ok but then after waiting over an hour for our mains we hear the people on the next table ask for their the bill as they were fed up of waiting, they left not happy. My wife asked where our food was and we said we were not happy and could we have our bill, I over hear the waitresses saying who should have taken our mains out ! We had been forgotten, they said our food was there and it came out right away, I wish it hadn’t, my wife’s Crab risotto was stone cold and my meatball pasta was dry and to be fair tasteless, when my wife complained, they said they wouldn’t charge for the Crab risotto and offered complimentary drinks as an apology, we declined the drinks because the food was that bad we did not want to stay in the place ( after nearly 2 hours ) we left over half of our mains, appalling service and appalling food.

Wonderful relaxed lunch.

We had an appointment in Hull so looked for somewhere nice for lunch. After a bit of research we decided to try Piccolo Italian Bistro on Chanterlands Avenue as it looked good & was not far from where our appointment was. Wow, what a great decision! We were greeted warmly by the front of house young lady & shown to a table. Straight away I thought this would be good as it was only 12:15 on Thursday lunchtime & almost all the downstairs tables were already taken. Menus given & drinks order taken quickly which we like as you can enjoy a drink whilst perusing the menu. My partner chose the Gamberoni (King prawns) followed by Branzino (Sea bass fillets) whilst I decided on Polpetta (meatballs) then Filetto al Pepe (Pan-fried beef fillet strips in creamy peppercorn sauce) A bottle of wine was chosen to accompany this & we sat chatting in anticipation of some nice food. Well we weren't disappointed. Lovely starters & then delicious mains were served up with just the right amount of time in between. There was a vibrant atmosphere in the bistro, some nice background music & plenty of chatter from what appeared to be many regulars having lunch which is always a good sign! One dessert to share & a couple of very good cocktails each finished off a delightful lunch. We had a nice chat with the Italian waitress/ front of house/ bakery shop assistant about looking after customers as we have close links to the hospitality trade. She worked very hard doing all this & made it look easy juggling all this & keeping everybody happy! A credit to the business. We also learned about some nice places to visit in Italy. Chatting to the owner/chef & found out he used to work at a nice Italian restaurant in our home town of Beverley many years ago. All in all, a delightful lunchtime experience, nice atmosphere, great service & wonderful food. We will definitely be repeating this the next time we visit Hull (in about 4 weeks!) & we will also take friends there for dinner one evening very soon. There are many restaurants, cafes, bistros dotted about these days so it is nice when you drop onto a good one & Piccolo is definitely a good one!

Charming place with very friendly and attentive staff. Had gamberoni, and a chicken liver pâté starter, absolute mountain of pâté, bread was really delicious too. For main we both went for fillet steak again really generous portions which is what I like as I am normally wanting more 😁.

We visited piccolo on a Saturday evening as a party of 4 adults and 1 child. The staff were all brilliant, very attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. We all ordered different items from the menu and all of the food was perfectly cooked, arrived quickly and was great value for money with really big portion sizes for everyone. The staff were all brilliant with my 3 year old and all very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely visit again. Thank you Piccolo :)

Awesome fillet steak

I have to say that this cook knows how to do a good steak. Sometimes I am wary of ordering steak, as it's usually the most expensive item on the menu and it can be hugely disappointing. However, I decided to risk ordering the fillet steak. I didn't order a starter because I didn't want to spoil my main course. I was so glad that I didn't, because the steak arrived and was very thick. In spite of this, it melted in my mouth. It was delicious. So few restaurants are able to get this right, but Piccolo did. I was very impressed. Hoping to go again with the hubby, as he would LOVE the steak and the way they do it here. Just hoping the chef doesn't change!

We booked table for (Sat night 11th February) after been shown to our table by a member of staff we where ignored. Our table was at the back near to the kitchen we sat for 20mins where members of the staff passed our table bringing out food, drinks and menus sadly it was not for us it was like we where invisible. I understand Saturday nights are busy but not once did any member of staff came across and apologised for wait in the end we got up and left. Manage to get a table at another restaurant and within a couple of minutes we had a menu and asked if we would like drinks something we didn't get at Picolos. As we left the young lady who had shown us to our table I said we where going and that we had been sat for 20 mins and no one had come to us to ask for drinks or gave us a menu she just said sorry about that.

Superb take away!

Oh my goodness me! How mightily delicious the food is from here! We have used this place a few times and each time it has been beyond spectacular. This evening I had the pollo fungi pizza and the husband had pollo Al la creme with chunky chips. The pizza was simply fabulous. Fluffy but crisp base, topping was perfect, nice big slices of chicken without the pizza just being over loaded with topping. The chicken was perfectly cooked not dry and dehydrated as it sometime can be from a takeaway. The flavors the chef managed to get on a pizza is nothing less than a miracle. It was simply delicious. The pollo Al la creme was equally as perfect. Again chicken was beautifully cooked, tender and flavoursome. The sauce though. Oh. My. God. I have NEVER tasted a better sauce on this dish. It litterally made my knees wobble. I urge anyone to try this you will not be disappointed! The chunky chips also deserve a mention. The seasoning was gorgeous and the chips themselves were Fluffy and soft in the middle and crunchy on the outside. A difficult task when it's a take away and it has to be kept warm in transit. They were spot on. There was a slight wait for the food, but as the saying goes, the best things in life are worth waiting for, and this was no exception the staff were wonderful from the lady taking the order to the delivery guy. We even got a call to let us know food was taking slightly longer and gave us a new estimated time for delivery, and it arrived when we were told it would. Well done to the chef for the fabulous food, the staff for their customer service and the delivery driver for his politeness. Try this place you will not regret it.

Ate in here for a family birthday tonight, took advantage of the deal they have on of 2 pizza or pasta dishes for £15. It is great value for money and trust me they dont scrimp on anything cos its on the offer like other places do. Outstanding food, service....everything! Thank you!!!

Fantastic Xmas day experience

We decided to go out for Xmas dinner this year as a family and opted for piccolo as we’ve always been impressed at other meals here during the year. The set menu was extensive and various people in our group opted for various dishes. All were absolutely stunning in presentation and portion size and more importantly flavour. The service was on point and drinks etc were quickly brought. Everything was first class and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Thank you so much for making our family Xmas dinner a brilliant experience and for all your hard work making it possible. 🫶🏻

The best food delivery during lockdown

I see in the Hull Daily Mail today Piccolo has been mentioned in "Hulls best restaurants" . Well deserved. I've been using the takeaway service during lockdown and have been very impressed with the food and the tripple cooked chips are fantastic. No frozen chips here! Oh and the garlic bread with blue cheese is a must! This restaurant is definitely worth a visit and the takeaway is very reasonably priced too. If you want great italian food at a good price I would definitely recommend Piccolo. The online ordering is easy to use too and delivery is usually well before the time given online.
