Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Friendly helpful service from Katie . Thank you. We both opted for the “hot meat of the day “ sandwich . ( Beef on the day we visited ) This comes with a dinky pot of gravy and salad + coleslaw garnish . We also...ordered and shared a generous portion of good old fashioned chips . Tasty and filling . Highly recommend this characterful place.More

Visited on a Sunday evening whilst staying in Ambleside. We had the Sunday lunch which was delicious and plentiful. The restaurant was busy but service was good and the staff friendly. Would definitely return when in the area.

This is a very old historic building but it is clean and welcoming, with a good choice of food and drink. We just had a sandwich lunch but they were the best sandwiches we had during our holiday, with generous fillings , good quality bread...and side salad. A perfect lunch.More

Food is very good and we really enjoyed what we ate. The service however was pretty poor. We stood waiting to be seated for over 5 minutes. This was whilst staff stood talking behind the bar. When we were eventually seated we waited another 10...minutes before anyone brought us menus or asked us if we wanted a drink. One staff member explained they were short staffed but I watched them talking at length behind the bar. Our drinks were left on the bar for ages, to the point I was about to go and collect them myself. Being busy is absolutely ok, being disorganised isn’t for me. I wouldn’t rush back.More

We booked this based on the excellent reviews, but quite honestly it was anything but excellent. It was steak night, the meal was just warm and the steak was nothing special. Service was ok, waitress was friendly, but we wouldn’t go back or recommend it.

We did go to this restaurant for a Sunday roast, but when we got there they had unfortunately run out of beef and lamb for the day. We did not go until 7pm on a Sunday evening and appreciate they have only got so much...meat for their roasts ( we could of had Gammon). The food we had was still very nice and all the waitresses were so friendly and efficient. Thank you for a good meal and next time we are in Ambleside we will turn up a bit earlier, as the Yorkshire puddings on the next table looked delicious.More

We had a delightful Sunday dinner. The lamb roast was delicious. Our waitress, Lauren was so good & attentive. We had a great cheese appetizer & good ice cream for dessert. FYI, I had made a reservation about a month before we were there.

Just a little review before I forget…. My husband and I ate here back in June. They were very busy but squeezed us in and as before we had a very lovely meal in this very old quirky place it’s always a good atmosphere and...we have found the staff working there very nice. What I especially wanted to mention was that I had asked who they bought their picked onions from… the Chef came out to tell me and then very unexpectedly provided me with a little taster to take home, how kind….. it’s that sort of gesture that makes you want to go back to places again and sing their praises to all and sundry….I will Thank you Priest Hole your one in a million.More
