A perfectly small and perfectly amazing restaurant. I can’t praise it highly enough. There were one or two hiccups with our gluten-free guests food but they were spotted in time so I’m not dwelling on that. I’m dwelling on the food, which was out of...this world. This was our second visit and I’m so so pleased we went back. I challenge you to find a better restaurant!More

The food was fantastic. I loved reading about where it came from and the inspiration behind it. I ate foods I wouldn’t have touched before arriving to The Old Stamp House. I’m not sure if I was feeling particularly brave or if it was the...presentation… but I am quite picky and I tried and enjoyed all of it. The service was timed to perfection and we weren’t left to flag anyone down when we wanted a drink. The room is really cute and atmospheric if a little echoey if you’re one of the first to arrive for that sitting. The music was cool too and I would actually suggest they turn it up a bit! It’s hard to get a booking at the moment, we just kept checking for cancellations and got lucky. We left feeling full but not like we’d eaten too much. The flavours were strong but not too rich. You can tell an awful lot of thought and effort has gone into the menu. Would love to go back on our next Lakes tripMore

Everything about the food was excellent. Excellent tastes fully deserving of the Michelin star. Timing of the service was good but we didn’t need the number of superlatives describing each dish. He was also over serving the wine and pushing for more purchases. Apart from...that a really good experience.More

The Old Stamp House is somewhere we've been wanting to visit for a while. The quality of the food is exceptional and we opted for the wine pairing which was ideal...it really pushes you out of your comfort zone, particularly if you only tend to...drink one type of wine, like me and my wife. The staff are all knowledgeable and professional, yet they manage to create a relaxed, informal atmosphere, which isn't at all stuffy, like some Michelin star establishments can be. We will definitelybe back.More

I was a bit dubious on entering this restaurant - down some dodgy stairs and into a cellar… that is my only slight negative, after that, the whole experience was absolutely fantastic! The servers was attentive, interested in our experience and informative about the dishes....The food was off the scale, looked amazing but tasted even better! For the quality and amount of food, it was a bargain! If I lived nearby, I’d be eating here often!More

First time back after lockdown and able to grab a last minute cancellation for lunch. Very relaxed. Great food. Some subtle twists on favourite dishes such as brown shrimp in cauliflower veloute and the hogget. Keep it up. Look forward to next visit.

I’d seen this restaurant on the tv and so booked a Friday lunch from the tasting menu. It did not disappoint - friendly and attentive staff, exceptional quality food and presentation, and the courses worked well together - all of which were championing local produce....We would highly recommend.More

Our third visit to The Old Stamp House and it didn’t disappoint. Fantastic food with service to match, very friendly staff and exceptional value. If you haven’t tried their sister restaurant Kysty which is also in Ambleside it’s well worth a visit.

Best restaurant I’ve eaten at ever. The service was impeccable - professional but relaxed and staff were happy to have a laugh and a joke. The restaurant was full so a lovely atmosphere - quite a small place which made it more special. The food...was simply amazing. Every course delicious and explained with passion. The wine flight was equally as good. O came away having paid £320 for a meal for 2 but thinking I’d gotten a bargain - it was that good! A must visit in Ambleside. The only tip - eat early. We started at 8 and were still going at 11 so if go at 6.45-7 if visiting again. WHEN visiting again!More

Sorry, only just got your question. We were there for a relaxing three hours, maybe could have done it in two.
